I have a website(not an application) built in VS2008. When I try to publish the site, any of the files that are in the root folder are not published. This has only just started happening and I am unsure what I have changed to cause this. The files are not excluded from the project.
View 1 RepliesI am slowly working out the setup issues with Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate on my newly installed Windows 7 Professional Machine. I was running XP and copied most of my files back over using the 'Windows Easy Transfer' tool I used prior to installing (not an upgrade) Windows 7.
When I try to publish my website to wwwroot in 2 ways. When I select 'Delete all existing files prior to publish' I get the following error:
Error deleting file 'about.aspx'. Unable to delete 'about.aspx'. This function is not supported on this system.
When I use 'Replace matching files with local copies' I get this error:
Unable to add 'about.aspx' to the Web site. Unable to add file 'about.aspx'. Access is denied.
Smooth Streaming requires .ism, .ismc, .dat files to make the Silverlight video player page work. If the "Only files needed to run this application" is selectd in the "Package/Publish Web" tab, these files are not published. Now I have to select "All files in this project" to publish them but this is undesirable because it also pushes all the source code files to the server. Is there any way to specifically tell VS that .ism, ismc and .dat files are required to run the application?
View 4 RepliesUp until recently this worked without an issue. I am very certain I did not change any settings intentionally in VS2010. So I change a file in my project, something as basic as a web.config file. Clean and build the solution then Publish to a file system. No errors, goes through all the directories, but when I check the production site, the files are not being updated.What could cause this, and how does one fix it?
View 2 RepliesI am currently attempting to use Visual Studio 2010 'Publish' and MSDeploy functionality to handle my web deployment needs but have run into a roadblock with regards to customizing the package depending on my build configuration.
I develop in a 32bit environment but need to create a release package for a 64bit environment, so in the 'Release' configuration I have a post build event that copies the 64bit version of a third-party dll into the bin directory overwriting the 32bit version. When I use the 'Publish' functionality, even though the correct 64bit dll is being copied to the bin directory, it doesn't get included in the package.
Is there a way to get the 'Publish' to include files that have been copied into the bin directory during a post build event?
I just recently upgrade my asp.net web project from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010. The upgrade was successful with no problems however im missing some features with this project. The One Click Publish feature(which is greyed out) in the header area of Visual Studio 2010 and the Add Config Transforms feature which is no where to be seen when you right click on web.config. When i create a new web project straight from visual studio 2010, these options work fine.
View 1 RepliesI have an ASP.NET application running on Apache server with mod_mono. If I have a folder called "temp" located in the website's root directory and run the following code
System.IO.TextWriter tw = new System.IO.StreamWriter("temp/test.txt");
tw.WriteLine(DateTime.Now);

it saves test.txt in C:Program FilesMono-2.6.4in emp on the server. If I add a slash to the directory name like this: System.IO.TextWriter tw = new System.IO.StreamWriter("/temp/test.txt"); It saves it to C:/temp. Both do not do what I want. How do I get the code to save the file to the temp folder inside my website's root directory? Is this a mod_mono issue or something to do with Apache? I have tried adding this line to httpd.conf Alias /temp "C:/Path_to_root_folder/temp" without any luck. I shouldn't have to use alias if the temp folder is within the root directory, correct? In my development environment which uses XSP as the web server everything works as expected. It is only a problem when running on Apache.
I just inherited an ASP.NET WebForms web application that I was tasked with refactoring. One of the features is a file upload and while debugging I noticed that as soon as a file is posted to a certain page/handler, it is automatically uploaded to the root directory of the application. The file is then moved to the proper location. I can't seem to figure out whats causing this automatic upload of the file. Is there something I'am overlooking in ASP.NET WebForms that allows this to happen? Is it an IIS configuration or something?

I've gotten my application to publish (to a .zip file) but it points to the physical directory on my hard drive. This obviously will not work on the server.

View 2 RepliesI ran into the following issue when trying to run a test website on IIS 7.5 (Windows Server 2008 R2 DatacenterEdition). The web-app is configured to run with framework version 3.5 in a .Net 2.0 app pool. Also the framework 4.0 beta 2 is installed on the server. The application named 'TestPfade' is located under the website's root named 'Default'. It is not only a virtual directory but defined as an application. When viewed in a browser the image gets shown because the given relative path is correctly resolved to 'images/Lighthouse.jpg' but the paths to the ajax-framework resources also include the application's root folder and therefor aren't found: 'src="/TestPfade/WebResource.axd?d=1bX...' View 2 RepliesI am using iis 5.1 in which we have only only one default website, I have two projects v2 and v3 my website points to v2 projects and have some folders images, styles etc now i have a virtual directory under this website that is hosting project v3 and having the same folder hierarchy as v2 in the home page of the both projects i have img src="imagesedlogo.gif" alt="logo"/> but this shows the same image that is in the v2 directory, How can i show different images for both projects. using "" get the root of the web site but how can i get the root of virtual directory under that website

In Dreamweaver Im used to FTP to upload/download files to/from a webserver to syncronice my files on the current computer Im working on.What is best option in Visual Studio 2010 to sync project files between home & work computers? I have seen there is a built in FTP, but seems only it can upload files, limited functionality?

I'm trying to publish my mvc3 project to a web host server, I right clicked my project and selected publish, there i entered the ftp information, VS2010 uploaded the files to the ftp, but when i try to surf to the remote site i get an error "Directory Listing Denied". all guides I found requierd an installation on the web host side, is there no way to just upload the site like in classic asp?

I have published my website using VS2010 and then selected FTP Site.Problem is that it does not show me update status. and takes too much time as compare to other FTP client. Is there any way or plugin for visual studio 2010 so i can build and directly publish that on FTP server.

View 1 RepliesRecently I've upgraded from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010, however I'm having various problems when uploading my compiled web site to the live area. I'm doing exactly the same as I would have done with Visual Studio 2008, however, now I receive errors such as:
{filename}.aspx is not a pre-compiled file
masterpage.master does not exist
All these errors don't make sense. Has anyone encountered these problems before, and was a solution ever found?
I'm about to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010, and I'm learning that there are now a few options for deploying web application projects. I've been using Web Deployment Projects in 2008, and my initial thought was to do the same in 2010.
Is there any advantage to using Publish or the Web Deployment Tool over Web Deployment Projects?
I need to automate the process so that the build and the deployment can be run from TeamCity. I'd prefer a method that would allow me to use the Visual Studio (sln) Runner but a custom MSBuild script would be OK too. See Web Application Deployment Workflow with SVN and TeamCity for more information on my current build/deployment workflow.
There are no errors or warnings on my VS2008 Web Application Project but when I try to publish, it fails. How can I view the VS2008 publish log?

I'm just confused that after I clicked publish, there is no window or text shows the status of the uploading progress. When would it be finished? It's taking so long, and in the meantime I can't do anything.
View 2 Replies I'm migrating from the website model to the web project model. In the past I used ssl/ftp (server is IIS7) to upload a website. The host (DiscountASP.NET) using VS2008 Publish to upload a project. VS2008 displays the alert that the password will pass in the clear. So ... what is the best practices approach to publishing a project?
1. SSL/FTP (not sure of the implications re: site compilation)
