Visual Source Safe / Does VSS Require A Separate license

May 11, 2010

Is the VSS 2005 the newest version? (As far as I've seem it seems like it is...)

Is this version compatible with VisualStudio 2005 and 2008? (it seems like it is...)

I've found some pages where they say really bad things about source safe, like VSS corrupts often and running "analyze" is recommended once a week....., check this one:

http://www.highprogrammer.com/alan/windev/sourcesafe.html or this one:

http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/08/source-control-anything-but-sourcesafe.html. Should I use VSS or something else like SVN (Subversion)?

Does VSS require a separate license? I mean, for the VSS server or repository.

How can we view Design and Source in separate tabs for a any aspx page ?

Or if this is impossible!! can we use split option by Vertically splitting the Design and Source ? if later one is possible, I could stretch the view onto two monitors like here as suggested by Nick Craver.

Visual Studio :: License?

Feb 15, 2011

I am planning to start up a small business, where i would like to provide my service as a software developer, web applications, or desktop applications etc.I am not sure what Visual Studio license i need to buy,to allow me to do this legally and how much it would cost.to give you an example -

customers provide me with the requirements- i write the application with my copy of visual studio and sell it to the customer for an agreed price, and he or she uses the application commercially , for exampel if its a website i write it, then he/she can publish it via a webhosting company.but i am not sure what license of VS i need to buy which will allow me to do this legally.

Visual Studio :: Can Visual Studio 2008 Be All In One Tool To Integrate Source Code Continuously

Jan 20, 2010

can Visual Studio 2008 be All-In-One tool to integrate source code continuously from team members, build, unit test?

Having used Visual Studio Team Edition 2005, unit testing each method within VS itself. I strongly believe that it is feasible to add-on tools. Example ankhsvn tool to use SVN from Visual studio [URL]

In my investigating i have come across number of tools(shown below) to use with Visual Studio 2008 professional

Development tool:- Visual Studio 2008 professional using Subversion as source control tool. Continuous Integration:- Hudson or Cruise control Build tool:- NAnt Testing:- NUnit, Selinium As Visual Studio 2008 can be used for unit testing I think NUnit is out of consideration.

In the same way i would like to have any other tools/add-ons to Visual studio to implement continuous integration, building and unit testing. This process should be automated such a way source code between team members is continuously integrated, built and unit testing is done as configured.

Objective is to use few number of tools as add-on to Visual Studio or achieve most from Visual studio itself (example unit testing). Visual Studio should be all in one tool.

I am aware that Team Foundation Server best suits my requirement, but it is out of scope due to its cost.

DataSource Controls :: Display Results From Two Separate Tables In Two Separate Databases?

Jan 14, 2010

I have access to two seperate databases (mySQL) located on two servers. I need to get the data, link the tables on a key field and display the results in a datagrid. My challenge is that if the search criteria changes for the display it affects rows returned from on table and should thus automatically affect the linked table and resulting data returned.

what the best approach would be to achieving this? So far I have set up a dataset with a dataadapter and table for each connection and then linked the tables in the dataset. The problem that I'm having is getting the linked resultsets to work.

On my form I have the datagrid with two Objectdatasources one for each dataadapter and i believe that's where I'm going wrong...

How To Get License File From A Folder In C# Project

Apr 20, 2010

I have a license file that I need to access at runtime in order to create pdf-files. After I have created the in memory pdf, I need to call a method on that pdf to set the license, like this:

pdf.SetLicense("pathToLicenseFileHere");

The license file is located in the same project as the.cs-file that creates the pdf, but is in a separate folder. I cannot get this simple thing to behave correctly, which makes me a bit sad, since it really shouldn't be that hard. :(

I try to set the path like this:
string path = @"ResourcesFile.lic";
But it just isn't working out for me.

Edit:

A bit more info. I should mention that this is a web service which returns pdf:s as byte[]. The web service creates the pdf:s, and during this creation process I need to set the license file so as to remove any watermarks from the pdf document. The pdf itself is not saved to disc, and only needs to access the license file once when it is created.
