View 2 RepliesVWD 2008 Express. In the following code (which works in my browser) the <embed . . .> has an error message when I am working in VWD 2008, "Validation (XHTML 1.0 Transitional): Element 'embed' is not supported." Although the error for the <embed . . .> shows, the page still displays in Internet Explorer okay. What can I do to get rid of the <embed . . .> error? Here is my current (working with the error on <embed . . .> code):

I use ResolveClientUrl to include css files in my page. When launched through web-server everything is OK, but in design mode css styles are not applied to the page. I use VS 2010 beta 2.
<link href= "<%= ResolveClientUrl("~/Styles/Site.css") %>" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
Same thing happens when I use any expression to specify an url for css How can I fix it? Or is it a bug of beta?
I have a ASP.NET project which relies upon the FreeImage .NET wrapper. This is loaded using a reference to a external directory. The wrapper relies upon the FreeImage.dll being present to work (clearly). How do I get Visual Studio to include a reference to the FreeImage dll. It's not a .NET assembly, i think it was built in something else (so I can't add it as a reference).
I don't really want to have a copy for this project as these files reside in a different SVN repository
im practising asp.net 3.5 programming in visual studio 2008. i have just a sideshow problem: when i select new->web site, a new website window pops up from which you can choose your template.(mine is asp.net in c#). once i click browse button, a choose location window appears including four icons such as file system, local iis, ftp site and remote site. i get to browse into each of them(tweak them) but local iis which doesn't permit me to scan it and says i must first install iis components(or run the vs2008 as administrator) whereas i've done with its installation successfully! i dont know why it behaves in this way.
View 2 RepliesI've just downloaded VS2010 Express to play with on my personal laptop. However, when I try to open an existing website through the "Open Web Site..." / "Local IIS" button, the system trundles on for a bit and then says: "To access local IIS Web sites, you must install the following IIS components: In addition, you must run Visual Studio in teh context of an administrator account."
Note the blank line after the "you must install...." [strikeout]Is this a limitation of the "Express" editions of Visual Studio? [/strikeout] I've just installed VS2010 Premium from our MSDN DVD and it has the same problem.... Also, seems to have broken VS2008 as well since I can no longer browse Local IIS from VS 2008 either. Good thing I installed this on my backup machine first and I can still get work done on my main development machine!
When I Start Debugging a website on the localhost the yellow bar no longer shows up at the top of the web page. How do I get it back?
View 5 RepliesWhen adding a new web reference, one of the options that visual studio gives you is to search for web services on the local machine (The exact option name is "Web services on the local machine").
My question is, how does Visual Studio find the web services on the local machine? The local website that contains the service doesn't contain a .disco file.
I tried to use fiddler but got nothing (visual studio didn't make any requests to the local web server). Does visual studio scan the default website for files with the extension .asmx?
whether we need admin rights to work on asp.net,C#,VS2005,IIS. Can you also point out that if we don't have admin privilege then what all are the stuff we will not be able to work on OR what all are the tools in VS ..etc will not be able to access.
View 1 RepliesI am using Windows 7 + VS 2010 and I need to access (debug purpose) my web project in VS but through HTTP-access from outside my router's network. I have mapped localhost to e.g. port 80 and my local PC has IP 192.168.1.2. Now, how can I map the VS project to the local IP?
Also the file: C:WindowsSystem32driversetchosts says:
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
Tried to reasign localhost there but W7 refused to make changes even though I am admin.
I have copied my asmx hello webservice to a remote server where I tried to open the project I have this message. That I answer yes or no it cannot open the project VS stays blank.Originally I think I have clicked on associate this project with IIS Express. Now I don't know how to revert this.
View 2 Replies using StyleSheetTheme="Common", my background image is not being applied when I switch over to using the local IIS server.
VS Web Server: http://localhost:33174/Index.aspx = OK
Local IIS Server: http://localhost/MyApp/Index.aspx = background not showing
My Common.css class is defined as:
#masthead {
height:60px;
background-image:url(/images/bg_masthead.gif);
background-repeat:repeat-x;
}
I've tried various paths to the image.
This error never happens before in my machine since 7 months of using it. [:(]
"There was an error while enumerating services on local machine: Active Directory Services cannot find the web server. A possible cause for this is an incompatibility between versions of Internet Information Server (IIS) on the client and the server. Another possible cause is that IIS is not installed on the local machine, or the user identity under which you are running may not have permissions to view websites on this machine. To view websites on this machine, make sure that you run Visual Studio as administrator. On Windows Vista computers with IIS installed, make sure that IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility feature is enabled."
I'm trying to add back a webservice (localhost) after deletion. And suddenly I'm getting the above error.[:(]
The error's suggested tip is to install IIS but I did not install IIS since then in my machine because VS2010 built-in server do just fine. Should I install IIS?
I also found this helpful tips but nothing works. [:(]
* Run Visual Studio with elevated administrator permissions
* Be a member of the "Administrators" group on the local machine
* Right-click the Visual Studio icon and select the "Run as administrator" option from the context menu.
I have used Global Resources in asp.net MVC, but how do I use Local Resources in asp.net MVC?
View 1 RepliesIt seems that using Local resources is much more complicated when using Razor. I recently converted an MVC 2 app I was working on to MVC 3. The conversion went well but accessing LocalResources doesn't work and I can't get it to work. In MVC 2 I created an App_LocalResources folder in the /Views/Home folder and created an Index.aspx.resx resource file. In the Index View I could access the local resources with
<%: GetLocalResourceObject("FirstName") %>
Simple, out-of-the-box functionality, as it should be. Razor doesn't understand this. It seems that in Razor you have to use @HttpContext.GetLocalResourceObject(<virtual-path>, <resource-name-key>). I've tried everything for virtual-path but nothing seems to work ("~/", "~/Views/Home/App_LocalResources", etc.). I tried to directly access the resource file by providing the complete namespace, like you do with global resources (which works fine in Razor), but then it errors stating that the culture is required. Intellisense allows you to build the reference to the resource property but Razor doesn't understand it.
Of course an alternative could be to simply use the ASPX rendering engine in MVC 3, but I want to use Razor. Does anyone know an out-of-the-box method (not some exotic work-around) for accessing the LocalResources in an MVC 3 app using Razor?
how can we debug multi threading and watch local variables of each thread.
Thread windows does not show variable values.
I have an ASP.NET web application that runs on a windows server 2003 server. there is a form that reads and writes data to an xml file inside the application's directory.
I always grant the NETWORK SERVICE user full control on my application folder so that it can read and write to the xml file. I put the application on another windows server 2003 server and did the same steps above but i was getting an Access denied exception on the form that reads and writes to the xml.
I did some search and found that if you grant the user ASPNET full control to the directory it would work, I did that and it worked fine. my question is: what is the difference between granting full control permissions to NETWORK SERVICE and ASPNET users ? and what can be the difference between the two servers that caused this issue ?
I'm writing a sample project that supports multilanguage. I'm using Resource files for that. I want to use Local Resources.
Here is what I've done.
1. Add 'App_LocalResources' folder in View/Home/ directory.
2. Add 'Index.resx' for the default language and 'Index.en.resx' for my other language.
3. I've made the Access Modifier as 'Public' and Custom Tool from properties to 'PublicResXFileCodeGenerator' and gave identical Custom Tool Namespace to both of that files ('Example')
4. I put an example 'Title' string in both my resource files and accessed it from my 'Index.cshtml' view in Views/Home directory like this:
[Code]....
When I run the application the default language Title from the Index.resx displays like charm, but when I change the language it can't seem to find the other file 'Index.en.resx' and the Title doesn't change.
For the record I tried the same thing with Global Resources, i.e. Create 2 global resource files and get the title of my Index page from them and it's working, i.e. the language changes when I change the cultures.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Premium, version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel, .Net Framework v 4.0.30319 RTMRel and MVC 3
I recently started NOT putting code in separate file. I am using vb. I am having a problem with my database connection. The live code is working just fine....but when I try to debug locally. i get this error. connection to the database from my local visual studio is not working. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Dim MyConn As New Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(ConnectionString)
Dim cmd As New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("Select count (*) from Classifieds where (ClassifiedCatagory = 'Antiques')", MyConn)
cmd.Connection.Open()
Dim count As Integer = cmd.ExecuteScalar() 'this contains the number of records
Label_Antiques.Text = count
cmd.Connection.Close()
Basically what I am trying to do is have my webpage project folder located directly on my local machine (ex. Local #1). Our database is located on a server (ex. Server #1) . I am building my web applications on my local machine and then trying to debug them in Visual Studio 2008. Only every single time I click to debug my project I get a "Security Exception" error that looks something like the following...
"Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file.
Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed."
I'm somewhat leaning towards the fact that I need to connect to the database to pull information from it and I don't have the proper permissions is the reason why this is happening but I've also read that it can be something that deals with improper configuration of my Web.Config file (i.e. I do not have something enabled).
Note #1: A co-worker of mine is having the same problem if he tries to put the project locally and then debug it. He has full administrative access to the DB and everything else.
I've wrote the comprehensive post within my blog: [URL] In brief words everything is simple:
1. I've downloaded free Visual Studio C# 2010 Express and Visual Studio Web Developer 2010 Express
2. I've successfully installed these versions.
3. I've tried registration online - and got the appropriate keys which I've used for registration.
Finally all the keys I've got are not valid for the system - and after 30 days evaluation (for free version?) period all these products are not running anymore because all the keys I am providing from online registration are invalid.
I've build an simple control called Menu:
namespace MyControls
{
public class MenuItem
{
public MenuItem()
{
Visible = true;
}
[Localizable(true)]
public string Text { get; set; }
[Localizable(false)]
public string Link { get; set; }
[DefaultValue(true)]
public bool Visible { get; set; }
[Code].....
Is it possible to run Visual Studio tool: 'Generate Local Resources' programmatically?
View 1 RepliesMy application creates some images at client machine using client side scripting VBScript. I want to store those images in database, so I need some way to bring those images to server without any interaction with users (means I can not use the file upload control).Along with this, application would also like to use the printer attached to client's machine (it could be her network printer), without showing printer dialog.
Basically I need to create some client piece, dll which will handle the scanning, printing and uploading images from client pc to server and web application will interact with this dll.How could I achieve this? I explored a lot on internet. many articles suggest that use activex control, but how in c#?
I am not asking any spoonfeeding. Please show me correct article or small working sample or example, I would figure out the rest.
when generating local resources by using ( "Tools"->"Generate Local Resource" ) i noticed that some controls disappear in run time.
is good to take advantage of Visual Studio to automatically generate it? or is better to create resource files and add meta:resourcekey="..." to my page manually??
