If you have a website with alternate versions of your webpages, one set for say windows mobile, and another set for a desktop user. I have setup a small website with a logon page that is so basic that it would be serviceable for mobile and desktop screens, the remainder of the pages would require mobile and desktop versions. Long story short, I suppose I need to way to modify the login page that can detect the type of client and browse to mobile or desktop page accordingly. What is the preferred way to doing this? Are there any code samples or tutorials that you can point me towards? One thing I forgot to mention, I am coding in C#.
I am trying to start a new mobile web application project but cannot find the mobile page template originally available on VS 2005, nor can I get the mobile web controls to display in the toolbox even though I have then all selected in the tool-> select toolbox items why? and what can I do?
I have developed one website in asp.net and now I want to open the same website in mobile devices.now i want to develop that for mobile users. I tried with .net mobile controls but it is not full filling my requirements. In the web page if combine the .net mobile controls with Asp.net controls Is it give any problem in the browser (at the time of rendering the controls in browser) in any of the devices like Nokia, iphone, BB. If use html controls in application
the powers that be have installed 'Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Applications' on my desktop here at work and following a book I want to develop a site in C#, but have stumbled right out the door since the web templates are missing, the 'new website' option from 'file > New' is missing. I'm guessing these are templates I need to DL from elsewheer but a search on google only shows 3rd party apps.
I've installed Web Developer Express 2010, opened up a website that I developed in VS2008 and do not seem to get an option to publish the website. How do I do this? Right clicking on the website only gives the option to build or copy, I want to publish.

We are implementing some business functionality that it exposed through the asp.net web service. At the current stage user interface is required for some peace of it and we are going to implement it inside of already existing desktop application (it is MFC C++ application, but we are considering to integrate some WinForms/Wpf components). In the nearest future we plan to replace current desktop application with a web site version (it will be asp.net web site, or PROBABLY Silverlight application). Therefore, I would like to implement UI once on the web site and just re-use it in some way from desktop application. Am I clear enough? Is there any way to do that? For sure, I can implement web service and use it from desktop application right now and re-use it from web application when it will be required... But I hope there is a better way to do that.
I have several web sites, all of which use the same JavaScript library. How can I "reference" this library from each of my web sites? If I just import the library into my web site in Visual Studio, I get in trouble as soon as the library changes, because I then have to update it in all web sites manually. It would be much easier to place the library in an external folder and just reference it from my web sites. How can I do this with Visual Studio?
Why is there no default 'create/open' access to 'WebSites' from the VS2010 start page?
Background:I've succesfully been developing ASP.NET web applications (via WebSite method ((((Not WebProjects)))), using VisualWebDeveloper) for roughly 3 years. Personally, I prefer the WebSite method or strategy due to the decrease in both size and complexity (the web applications I build are generally for around 50-100 simultaneous users logging in and out and constantly manipulating data). I will continue bulding my sites via the 'Website' method provided VS2010 doesn't begin it's deprecation. The root of this question (which boiled into this post) came from perusing this article and this video tutorial. It's a shame to see functionality that brings with it an overall ease of use and increase in production capacity by decreasing both size and complexity of web application development... downplayed.
If the Visual Studio 2010 Development Team left this functionality out for a reason, I would very much like to know. So that I know what is going to be "sponsored by Microsoft" in a couple of years and I don't waste another second considering using the 'WebSite method' as a viable solution (as I know that I can't stick with vs2008 while rest the development community gets to evolve with the innovations implemented within vs2010)... WebSite method or the WebProjects method.
I have downloaded all the required setup to use windows application. I am using vs 2008, already downloaded Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK Refresh, Windows Mobile 6 Standard SDK Refresh. its buliding and deploying successfully. But I am not able to place tools, because there are no tool in toolbox. What i should do to see the tools in tool box.
Visual Studio 2008 doesn't have item templates for ASP.NET Mobile Web Forms (which were previously available in Visual Studio 2003).What about VS2010? Same lack?
I have a existing web site which is developed in Asp.Net / AJAX 3.5, C#, Now I need to make this site available in Mobile version.. and I came across an open source tool [URL]
But I am not sure How do I integrate.. this in my existing application...
Also my site is running in godaddy shared hosting server..
I want to use a source control in VS2010, I know my best bet is TFS, but at the moment TFS(can't afford ). As i understand TFS is the new VSS_2005(can afford)Can VSS 2005 be use as a source control for VS 2010 solutions/projects?
I just recently upgrade my asp.net web project from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010. The upgrade was successful with no problems however im missing some features with this project. The One Click Publish feature(which is greyed out) in the header area of Visual Studio 2010 and the Add Config Transforms feature which is no where to be seen when you right click on web.config. When i create a new web project straight from visual studio 2010, these options work fine.
Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 locked up, and when I tried to restart it, it wouldn't load, so I did a devenv.exe /resetuserdata to get it going again. It reset everyhing in my options of the web app/ etc, and now some AJAX conrols don't work such as dragpanel. I assume that it is because something got reset that I haven't enabled again, but can't figure it out.
