I'm making my debut in designing a web app specifically targeted at mobile browsers. While I've written web pages before in C#/ASP.NET, I've never done anything specifically for the limited screen real estate and other idiosyncrasies of mobile browsers. So I'm looking for some pointers here:
What design considerations should I be taking account of (aside from the obviously smaller screen)?
What useful features are there in C# that can be put to good effect for the mobile client?
How do you make sure to give a relatively uniform user experience for all different mobile browsers?
How to make mobile website in visual studio 2010 or above.
whta is differ when we code for it on c#.
I am trying to start a new mobile web application project but cannot find the mobile page template originally available on VS 2005, nor can I get the mobile web controls to display in the toolbox even though I have then all selected in the tool-> select toolbox items why? and what can I do?
View 1 RepliesI have been using Visual Web Developer without any problems until yesterday, when it decided that it is no longer going to load any of my web pages. I have tried creating a very simple project with a single hyperlink on the page, but the page does not load.
If I Change the "use dynamic ports" to false and select a port number i get the following message "unable to launch the ASP.Net development Server. Port 'xxxx' is in use".
Every time I press F1 to view the online Help it launches in the Opera browser. I really dislike Opera and only have it installed on my PC for testing purposes. How do I change it to IE?
View 1 RepliesIf you have a website with alternate versions of your webpages, one set for say windows mobile, and another set for a desktop user. I have setup a small website with a logon page that is so basic that it would be serviceable for mobile and desktop screens, the remainder of the pages would require mobile and desktop versions. Long story short, I suppose I need to way to modify the login page that can detect the type of client and browse to mobile or desktop page accordingly. What is the preferred way to doing this? Are there any code samples or tutorials that you can point me towards? One thing I forgot to mention, I am coding in C#.

View 2 RepliesI am developing a web based application for a Motorolla Mc 9090, it is a wireless barcode scanner running windows mobile 5.0.
The idea is to centralize the inventory in one database, by scanning items, serials, bins etc.
I have a set of pages each containg forms, where the user will have to scan an item, and automaticall the scanner has a carriege return (ENTER key) the idea was to have the user simply scan, and the page would automatically click the button posting to server for processing and then the server would reply.
For some reason i cannot get the focus() to work as well as the defaultbutton propperty of the form. There is also 1 more problem, the readOnly textboxes look the same as the non readOnly textboxes, even with the backcolor property changed.(guessing this is just MS)

View 2 RepliesI'm learning web design at the moment (by myself) and using Visual Web Developer Express, and I don't know if this is my fault or not but the preview in the split mode does not match the preview in the browsers (Firefox, Chrome and IE). I'm hoping that an experienced designer/developer would be able to confirm for me that as long as it's displaying correctly in the browsers, all will be ok. If not, how am I to fix this?

View 2 RepliesI have made my 1st asp.net web app in vs2010. I run the app and Firefox opens, showing the page. When I close Firefox, the app continues to be (Running) inside VS2010. I think the app should stop running when I close the browser. Is this right? If so, how can I make VS2010 get out of run mode and back to design mode by itself?

View 1 RepliesI have a solution CPortal created in Visual Studio 2010. It has two Projects (CPporal and Login). If I right click the Login project folder and select 'View in Browser' It opens in IE as http://localhost:4558/Login/. If I rightclick the CPortal folder and select 'View in Browser it opens as http://localhost:1807/CPortal/. Please note the change in port number.
I am facing problem because, after I get myself authorized on the Login, it is is supposed to redirect me to CPortal, which it does, but uses the same port number that Login opened with. i.e. It redirects me to http://localhost:4558/CPortal/ and gives 404 file not found error. How do I make Visual Studio 2010 to use the same port number for both (all) projects so that this problem does not occur.
