I've recently upgraded to WIndows 7. When I try to sing the assembly in VS2010 I get an "Access is denied" error. I am logged as admin so I'm puzzled. What service account does VS uses that I should elevate its privilages?

I am trying to add a web reference to my project in Visual Studio 2010 that points to PayPal's Sandbox service.

Although VS finds it using the Add Web Reference dialog box, when I press the Add Reference button I get the following error and it fails:
Failed to add Web Reference 'com.paypal.sandbox.www'.
Error: Access to the path 'C:Documents and SettingsMyNameLocal SettingsTempPayPalSvc.wsdl' is denied.
Even if I attempt this using http instead of https it still fails with the same error.
So, i am running SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and VWD 2010 Express on Windows 7. I am logged in as admin on my machine. I have created a new web app project (VB Linq to SQL) and I have attempted to add an existing .mdf to my project's App_Data folder. I right-click, choose "add existing...", navigate to the .mdf file in the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL10.SQLEXPRESSMSSQLDATA folder, and then i get an "Access is denied" error box with no further details.

Is there anyway to localise an external assembly reference? Here's my situation:I am working on Project A and it contains assembly references from Project B. Now when I release this Project to my client I don't want to have to include the whole of Project B with it. Is there anyway to force it to copy the dll's from Project B onto Project A and use those references? I can do this manually by copying all dll's to local project and re-referencing but just wanted to know if there is an easier way.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to compile a website in Visual Studio 2008 on a 64-bit platform. The website needs to run as a native 64-bit application, and also references an x64 assembly. Whenever I try to build the website in visual studio, I get a bad image format exception referring to the x64 assembly.As per my understanding, visual studio compilation is running as a 32 bit process causing this problem. Also, for websites the only build platform available for selection in visual studio is '.Net'. So I cannot select that the website should be built for x64 execution.

I have web application that needs to debug and deploy as a 64 bit mode because it uses uses some unmanaged 64 bit dll's like system.data.sqlite. Also, I prefer debugging in 64 bit mode because it allows us to test some high memory use cases. After a lot of fiddling, Asp.net will deploy and run just fine. However all the aspx and ascx pages show errors and intellisense doesn't work when editing them in Visual Studio 2010. Apparently this worked in Visual Studio 2008 and this has been is a known problem in Visual Studio 2010 for months. I don't want to revert to VS 2008. There was a work around posted on SO here but it didn't work in my tests, limits debugging to 32bit mode, and also feels a bit hacky (I think it only works for VS Express style websites). Has anyone made this work in a web application or have a better work around?For those who are interested Visual Studio 2010 has two other problems with 64bit dlls that I have managed to work around.
Problem 1 - Cassini: Cassini can only debug in 32 bit modeSolution 1 - CassiniDev or Localhost: Debug using localhost or compile CassiniDev (an opensoure variant of cassini) in 64bit mode. I like the zero config simplicity of debugging a new web app with cassini so I used CassiniDev. I published my site with Visual Studio on Windows web Server 2008 R2......but I have this error:

I have a solution with a website and a class library. I have renamed the class library project from Insight_WebControls to Insight.WebControls. I have also renamed the assembly it produces in its properties.
I have removed from the website's references the old class library and added the new.
However, when I try to build the website, I get the error 'Could not load file or assembly 'Insight_WebControls' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.' There is a dll called 'Insight.WebControls' in the bin folder. Clearly some part of the website is still looking for the old filename. Can anyone tell me how to point it to Insight.WebControls.dll instead?
Does the temporary assemblies that VS creates when you debug a WCF ajax enabled webservice gets deleted after a few hours of running an instance of the development webserver?

I have a small project and build it to library .dll file with some function util.
From an other website (with diffirence solution). I added reference the .dll before to website.
In website, I declaration to using the function in library (dll file before). But I found error:
Error 1 Type 'LibraryName' is not defined.
And in VS2010 the problem is same.
But, run website on an other computer, it work normally.
I installed a fresh machine with Win7 x64 Ult. wMS updates including 1/5/09, then installed VS2010 Ult beta with .Net V4.0. When I create a new web site, add the ajax references and controls, and use an ajax control on a generic aspx page then build I get the following popup: Find Source: ScriptObjectBuilder.cs and Find Source: ScriptControlBace.cs I downloaded the Ajax source file and point this to the file its requesting it doesn't like it. Anyone know what is going on with Ajax and VS2010?

Then I uploaded almost every file (not the sln and suo files) to my shared-host unix website. This Unix website is supposed to support asp.net.
But I got this error:
Server error in application. I'm aware of the following two different types of web projects in Visual Studio 2008:Website projectWeb application projectA web application project can reference a signed assembly as long as the web application's assembly is also signed with the same key. However, this doesn't work with the website project because there is no place to sign an assembly. I think this is because the assembly is compiled dynamically on the server?

The website project doesn't seem to have a way for me to sign its assembly and I get the following message when attempting to use anything from the library: "CLASS is not assessable in this context because it is 'Friend'", which is to be expected.The following attributes are inside the AssemblyInfo.vb file in my class library project:

Going forward, I think creating a web application in the first place may have been a better idea and much more flexible for future development.

Minor = 2
Build = 407

Now when i make some change in the projects file and recompile it, only the version number changes. When does the build number changes?

In a Web Application project in VS08, how do you create an assembly? E.g. you derive a class based on HtmlGenericControl to form your own div, override the ClientId and UniqueId properties, so as not to get screwed up id's on the client-side, and then you want to use/reference this control in an aspx page.

A while ago when i started using VS 2005, i found that some assembly entries were automatically added to from web.config
and i was getting annoying errors. later i found i have added unneccessary references in my application. And its a feature that assembly reference are automatically added to assembly tag in Web.config, So dev don't have to worry about it.
Recently i used Interop.OWC11.dll in my application. And ^&*# got the annoying
"CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Office' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft' (are you missing an assembly reference?)"
error again.. Assembly entry was not added automatically. I checked same for existing references in my application, for them to automatic entries is not happening.... ? :(

I have wav/mp3 files that I want to grant access to only users after signing into my webapp. I have the user credentials being checked through a mySQL db. I do not want the files to be able to be accessed by url. I have found that adding the mime type to the web.config section at

will disallow access to the files by url, but how can I allow access programmically to the files after signing in?? Currently using godaddy hosting.
I made a custom server control library that all of our websites will be using. I have registered the dll in the global web.config of our production and development servers, and everything runs fine in the browser. The only problem I have is Visual Studio/Intellisense not recognizing my control. I get the error message "Unknown server tag...", which in turn throws other validation warnings. Does anyone know how to tell Visual Studio to include dll's registered in this location? Our sites are .net 4.0 and below is an excerpt from the web.config located in %SystemDrive%WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv4.0.30319Config on the servers.

When I try to add a reference to system.data.sql, it doesn't exist. Did install sql server 2008 service pack 1 wrong or visual studio express service pack 1 wrong?
