Visual Studio :: Windows 7 Not Saving Datasets Files
Jan 24, 2010
I installed Windows 7 a few days ago and everything seemed to install fine. I opened up a rather large project I've been working on and opened up my dataset file. I created a new table in SQL Server 2005 and so in turn I created a new tableadapter. It went through the steps to create the tableadapter fine but when I tried to finish it, it took FOREVER to finally refresh. The table is small, about 6 fields with no data, and I waited 20 minutes at least for Visual Studio to finally respond again. Now I've tried to save my work and it's hung up again. I've been waiting another 20 minutes at least just for VS to save the file. Is there some known issue with datasets and Windows 7? This didn't happen in XP and I simply can't be waiting for an hour to simply add a table adapter and save the file.
So I would like my solution to save in the same folder as the rest of my files. I am a win forms developer so web is new to me.
1) Is there any reason why I shouldn't do that for web.
2) Second how do I do that. I know that I can change the solution's saving location by changing ToolsOptionProjects & SolutionsProject's Location. However, I just want it to use the location of the new website I create and not that specification.

Weird Sunday morning question: I routinely drag files into my projects from Windows Explorer. But I just created a new project and I get the slashed circle every time I try to drag in a file from Windows Explorer. I closed the project and opened another one just to confirm that I wasn't having a foggy Sunday morning problem but I _am_ able to drag files into the this other project. Trying to drag the same file into my new project won't work. What's up with this?!
Im working on a website project with Visual Studio 2010 from 2 different computers (home & work). In Dreamweaver Im used to FTP to upload/download files to/from a webserver to syncronice my files on the current computer Im working on.What is best option in Visual Studio 2010 to sync project files between home & work computers? I have seen there is a built in FTP, but seems only it can upload files, limited functionality?
I've got Visual Stuido 2008 Team Suite + Team Foundation Server + TFS Power Tools running on a Windows XP laptop. Everything uses Windows Authentication.A few weeks ago I changed my Windows password per company security policy. As soon as that happened, I started getting a problem working within TFS. I would be trying to check in or check out a file, or view the history of a file, and I would get the following error: "You are not authorized to access tfs.servername.com". Whenever I get that error, my Windows account has become locked and I need to call the helpdesk to get unlocked.
This issue happens intermittantly...I could be working fine in Visual Studio for several hours and then it'll happen. Sometimes it happens several times in a row - I'll get the account unlocked, and then the next time I try to do something in Visual Studio it locks again.I realize there are a host of ways an account can become locked - believe me, I've run them all out - I don't have any services running on my machine that are tied to my WIndows account, I wasn't logged in to another computer under my old password, I don't have any mapped drives that use my old password. I'm fairly sure there's something in VS or TFS that is causing it - I can work for days without getting into Visual Studio and I don't get the issue. I use SQL Sever 2005 Express, which also uses Windows Auth, and I have no problems. The lockouts only start when I'm doing something in VS.
When I am working on projects I like to take my files back and forth between two machines. The machine at my office is running Windows XP Pro 32-bit.My home pc is brand new and running Windows 7 64-bit.I have not yet installed Visual Studio 2008 on the new home pc.My projects usually consist of a web site in ASP.net and C# often with a SQL Server 2008 Express Edition database backend.I am using Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition (yes, I know I need to upgrade soon).
Before I received the new computer I was simply copying what I did at one machine onto a USB drive, taking it the other machine and overwriting the files that were previously there. Is it feasible to continue moving project files back and forth between computers now that one machine is running a 32-bit OS and one is running a 64-bit OS?
I basically want to do a reverse 'search in all files', so it returns files that don't contain "keyword".Does anyone know how to do this, or the regex used, etc?
to create a form in VS using ASP that when upon submitting a form the details will get automatically stored in an xml file which can be accessed later on a chosen file save pathi have 2 files ... "Contact.aspx" and "Contact.aspx.vb"i have created the form in the "Contact.aspx" and when trying to enter the fields in the "contact.aspx.vb" i keep getting several errors such as for example...
Something happened on my work computer where the Start Page for a website is not saved. I now need to save the start page every time I open a web site project (which is quite annoying).
I have confirmed that this is happening by also seeing that the Property Pages do not retain the setting either. This happens for every web site project as well.
Where and how does .NET 2008 store the start page setting for a web project? I have looked in the solution file, but could not find it there.
try to install visual web developer 2010 from web installer,http://www.microsoft.com/express/Downloads/#2010-Visual-Web-Developer once installer screen pop up, it stated that it is not supported for windows vista platform. However, previously before formatting pc, it has successfully installed once.
My Visual Studio 2005 program doesn't open CSS files properly - when I open them in VS, it opens them as a text file. It is annoying because if I do something wrong, it doesn't show up the error and I have to sift through it all to try and find out what is wrong. Plus it doesn't show up the hints for the attributes.
What's the easiest way to delete all the files from my Temporary ASP.NET files in .NET 4.0 on my development box? It seems like I have to shutdown Visual Studio 2010, stop IIS, and then it will let me. Is there a simpler way?
saving my aspx file takes too long, it has some nested tables, but it is nothing huge, it has like 50+ overall controls on the form. When I hit the save button, it takes a few minutes and drives cpu crazy, so I am guessing it is doing something in the background.
So, what is the reason, any clues how to speed this up?
i have VS 2010 and also VS 2010 Express in buth software when i run my web form application it take max usage of CPU and RAM and my windows 7 not functioning well i try to re install windows 7 and also my VS but i still have the same problem.i got this problem today i just wanted to ask you is this a bug in VS or i got virus?

I'm about to start a new module in my existing web application project (already completed 3 modules), due to more data entry and volume of data handling my PM informed me to go this module on windows application (vb.net), but i'm requesting him to go with web application since i'm much familiar in web applcation and all my completed module on web.
But he is thinking on performance part too, if i get some idea / suggestion on the same so that i can clear and i will go with either option.
The module is Service Billing with LPO Control, Billing, Proforma, eBilling, eApproval, online billing etc.
I have a VS2010 project that I want to move back and forth between an x86 and an x64 machine. On the x86 machine, several assemblies are located in Program Files, and the path of the assemblies are shown as c:Program Files...... When I move this project to the x64 machine, the same assemblies are located in C:Program Files (x86).... Is there a way that I can confugure VS2010 so I don't have to manually change the path when I move the project from one machine to another?
How to run .sql files from Visual Studio? I want to have a separate project (what kind of?) where I store .sql-files and then be able to click on them as choose "Run" or something similar to be able to run the code agains a predefined SQL Server.
