Get App_offline To Be Ignored When Running In Visual Studio?

Dec 3, 2010

I have a web app that has an app_offline.htm file, this file is stored in source control along with everything else.

The problem I have is that each time I (or any other developer) do a get latest on the source I get the app_offline.htm file and then when I try to run the app all I see is the app_offline rather than the actual web site.

Is there way that I can stop this from happening?

Automatically Add "Option Strict On" To All Codebehind Files Created In Visual Studio 2005?

Jan 8, 2010

I've been manually adding the following line every time I create a new user control / web form in one of my ASP.NET web forms projects: Option Strict On. I can't just set it in web.config because it's a legacy project that has user controls / web forms that would bomb out if we turned on option strict for the entire site, so the current solution is to apply it to all new user controls / web forms and slowly update the older pages. Is there some sort of Visual Studio setting / template I can change so that "Option Strict On" is applied automatically when Visual Studio creates the codebehind files?

Visual Studio :: The Files Delete In The Recycle Bin That A App_offline.htm?

Mar 2, 2011

have been using the Publish Web Site option VS 2005, and all of a sudden it quick working correctly and do not get an error message. Also, compiling the web site does not take as long as it did before. Now Pubish Web site only puts the bin folder and PrecompileApp.config file in the C:InetpubwwwrootOIAEmailMaint. Because I am working and testing this website sometimes I delete any previous files that was in the folder C:InetpubwwwrootOIAEmailMaint before Publish Web Site. I did notice when I was looking at the files I delete in the Recycle Bin that a app_offline.htm. Apparently I changed some kind of option by accident by I do not have a clue what.

Visual Studio :: Automatically Publishing To IIS 7.0?

Jan 12, 2010

We are using Windows 7 with Visual Studio 2008. We wanted to know if there is a way to automatically configure new Projects to use the publish to IIS and create a virtual directory options, instead of defaulting to using the built-in web server, since we then need to manually go and publish/create the virtual directory.

In the "olden days" when creating a new project it automatically created the virtual directories in IIS, but not anymore .

SQL Server Won't Open DB Created By Visual Studio?

Jan 8, 2010

I've built an ASP.Net site in Visual Studio, and created the DB inside it (the .mdf file is in the APP_data folder).

Now, when I want to deploy in the customer site, I think about maintaining the DB without open Visual Studio, and by using the SQL Server Express tools (back up etc.).

I've searched how to do this, and learned that I should attach the .mdf file to sql server.

I've tried to do this and failed!

The error is: Unable to open the physical file "< .mdf >". Operating system error 5: "5(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105)". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5120)

Now I have 2 options:

1. To give up and deploy the site in the current situation where the DB is an .mdf file and ASP.Net can connect to it by the SQL server express compact (in the proccess).

To extract all the data (I need to think how...) and import it to new DB, this time in SQL Server DB.

Visual Studio :: Assembly Entries In Web.Config Were Adding Automatically And Now They Are Not?

Sep 2, 2010

A while ago when i started using VS 2005, i found that some assembly entries were automatically added to from web.config

and i was getting annoying errors. later i found i have added unneccessary references in my application. And its a feature that assembly reference are automatically added to assembly tag in Web.config, So dev don't have to worry about it.

Recently i used Interop.OWC11.dll in my application. And ^&*# got the annoying

"CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Office' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft' (are you missing an assembly reference?)"

error again.. Assembly entry was not added automatically. I checked same for existing references in my application, for them to automatic entries is not happening.... ? :(

I have to write is down in Web.config manually... I don't understand why?....

Visual Studio :: 2010 Automatically Puts In Paragraph Tags?

Sep 7, 2010

Does anyone know why VS2010 will automatically put an open and close html paragraph tag in my markup everytime I click on save, or save all? It is really obnoxious. I have to close the document and click yes at the prompt to save in order to save my document. If I click save, or save all, it will always place a paragraph tag somewhere in the code and therefore it will need to be saved again.

Visual Studio :: From VS2008 To VS 2010 Created A New Class?

May 20, 2010

I've just upgrade my web application from vs2008 to vs2010, I create a new web app from vs2010, then copy across all the existing files from vs2008, then I add a new class file to App_Code folder, the intellisense is not showing up for everything and class etc is also not color in the right color. However, when I open the existing class I created earlier from vs2008, intellisense just working fine and all classes are in different color as well, if I make a copy of existing class, the copied class does not support the intellisense as well. However, if I shut my VS, and reopen it, they all appear to be support with intellisense for existing class, but once I created a new class, intellisense is not support.

C# - Visual Studio 2005 Vs. 2008 - Code The Designer Automatically Generates In 08 Like In 05?

Nov 1, 2010

So I am a beginner with .NET, Visual Studio, C#, etc. But I am wondering something about the code behind a form and a difference I am seeing in 2008 versus 2005. So lets say I have a simple Windows Form app, C#, and I throw a couple controls on it. Then I add some MessageBox.Show event handlers for the default events....in 2005 there is that little section within the code that is hidden that basically contains the code that 'registers' the controls with the system....I think. That may be a bad definition?? Basically I think that automatic code generated here just basically associates the event to the event handling code....anyway.

I can see this is 2005 (once I click the like gray box), but it does not appear anywhere in 2008. So this has to exist somewhere, and I just wanted to ask to be familiar with what is going on since I am new to this. I still have to figure out how to turn on the code line numbering in 2008, but I can google it.

When the form posts back refresh the solution explorer and the new directory does not appear.Check your file system and the file will be there. Not a massive issue but frustrating.

Visual Studio 2008 - How To Manually Override The IIS Directory For An .Net Project Opened By VS2008 But Created On Another Machine

Feb 25, 2011

I have an ASP.Net project created by a team member on another computer. The project references a virtual directory that exists on my computer but under a different localhost location.Currently, the following error occurs when I try to open the project:

The local IIS URL http://localhost/foo/default.aspx specified for Web project foobar has not been configured. In order to open this project the virtual directory needs to be configured. Would you like to create the virtual directory now?[Yes] [No]

So, there are two options: select yes: It creates the virtual directory that it thinks I need, which I don't want to do. I already have a virtual directory somewhere else.

select no: This isn't an option, as the project opens, but without all the bells and whistles I know and love.

Where is the virtual directory location (in my case http://localhost/foo/default.aspx) specified within the project? Can I change this manually, say in a configuration file within the project, either before or after I open it? A configuration change seems more ideal than manually opening IIS to override a virtual directory path.

EDIT (solution): Buried in the comments below is the following answer (Thanks @Thyamine)This can be configured in the foo.csproj file for the project. Look for the lines:

<ProjectExtensions>
<VisualStudio>
<FlavorProperties GUID="{F00-000-000}"> [code]....

I created and populated a database inside Visual Studio 2008 instead of using Management Studio.I need to run the script to create the schema for users and roles. The database does not show up in ASP.NET SQL Server Setup Wizard or in Management StudioThe only databases that do show up are master, model, msdb, and tempdb

Is there anything I can do to fix this or would it be easier for me to just create a new database starting in Management Studio and then connect to it from within Visual Studio?
