i have sql server 2008 and visual studia 2008 install in my system when i open a new website project and then use the asp.net administration tool in that when i go for security tab under that one.
i want to enable roles but it displaying error that unable to connect to sql server database.
I developed a website project using visual studio 2008 and language used is c#. It was working fine till yesterday[i.e., It compiled and also i could run it using the asp.net development server by pressing ctrl+f5] and today when i tried to run it says "unable to connect to asp.net development server". I tried to reinstall visual studion 2008 and even now its not working. Also when i go to websites n asp.net configuration option it say the same error "unable to connect to asp.net development server". I absolutely no idea about why this error popped up. I got my project demo. day after n how can this be set right.
View 4 RepliesI just started getting the error message "Unable to Connect to the ASP.net Development Server" when debugging a website with VWD 2008 (everything was fine in the past). My system is Windows Vista with Windows Live OneCare firewall. I have reviewed other postings related to this problem, and they indicate firewall setting problems - settings not allowing VWD internet access. However, my settings on the "Windows Live OneCare Firewall Advanced Settings" tab specifically allow VWD.

It's been working fine for months and all the sudden.I'm fairly new at this so if you have a fix I will need details.
I used the ASP.net Web Site Administration tool to create a database with two users and two roles. The database created successfully and is showing up in Solution Explorer in the App_Data folder of my project, as expected. The problem is, that when I click on the database I get an error message saying that "SQL Server database files (.mdf) require SQL Server 2005 Express or SQL Server 2008 Express to be installed and running on the local computer." I, in fact, have 3 versions of SQL Server running on my computer. SQL Server Express (default instance), SQL Server Express (named instance for Outlook 2010 Business Contact Manager), and SQL Server 2008 R2 (Developer Edition). If I create a new connection in Server Explorer and then attach the database file, it attaches fine. It's only in Solution Explorer that it somehow is not connecting.
View 1 RepliesI'm getting this problem with one of my web projects. I've looked at [URL] and other suggestions around the place, none of which apply here. The odd thing is, it's occurring with *one* of my new web site projects, but not another one. Odd again is that they're both 100% fresh sites, created with the "New Web Site" option in the File menu, within a day of each other, and nothing has been done to them, apart from a bit of "hello world" html. WebSite1 was created first, and Cassini worked when I first created it the other day. A day later, I created WebSite2 and Cassini worked (and still works) with that one.
However, when I open WebSite1, I get the above error code - again, it was working fine the other day, and WebSite2 works fine. I've compared their .sln file - so differences apart from the VWDPort number used, and of course the path to the site and various GUIDs. Everything else is identical. Same with comparing web.config files. No differences there at all. So I'm stumped - why would Cassini start up fine with WebSite2 (and subsequent sites I create) but suddenly stop working for the WebSite1 project, when it was working ok a couple of days ago?
Whenever i run the project this problem occur Can any one give me solution. should i have to delete webdev.webserver.exe and install another is this the right solution for my problem.
View 1 RepliesNot too long ago I was given a new PC with windows 7 Professional on it. Before, I had vs 2008 running on win xp which worked OK. I started getting error msg (Unable to connect to ASP.NET development server) after I installed vs 2008 (version 9.0.30729.1 sp1 vs team system dev. edition) and ran one of my projects and even a simple test project. The first msg shows the syntax of webdev.webserver with an example in the bottom. I can get this error by running the project or by showing any page in the browser. I noticed that file WebDev.WebServer.EXE does not appear in the folder C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv3.5. If that's the only reason why I am having this problem than how can I fix it. I was told that .net framework 3.5 works on top of .net framework 2.0?! I just want to sort out this .net framework mess on my new machine. I am willing to uninstall all .net framework and start fresh. Another thing that I am willing to try is to get from a coworker the WebDev.WebServer.EXE (from the .net framework 3.5 folder) and see if it works.

View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a new computer running Windows 7 Home, and after installing Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express, I am unable to connect to the database using the "Connect To Database" wizard. I get the following error:
"This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later."
The version of SQL Server 2005 Express I've downloaded is directly from the Microsoft site and I also downloaded the SP3 to be used with Windows 7, x64 (which I presumed was a later version of the database). I am able to connect to the database programatically, but I would like to get the wizard functionality working as well (as I am unable to add a database to my projects, using the "Add New Item" wizard either).
In Visual Web Developer-2010, I have been trying to connect to IBM DB2 Database after installing the DB2 9.7 client (both supports VS2010/.Net4) so that I can use "ADO.NET Entity Data Model", but while clicking "New Connection" I can only see the list of Data Sources and Data Provider only related to MS SQL server. This is totally blocking my work, I am not able to work further since I cannot even establish the connection to my db2 database using this new editor so that I can create the edmx files in the solution for non MSSQL databases. Kindly provide me the solution ASAP, since my further work is blocking due to this.

When debug a project, then error message show:

I am getting an error "Unable to start debugging on the web server..." while running as web application in VS2005. But the error seems only for this application. I created a test application, both in VS2005 and VS2008, and found no issues in running these applications.

I have tried the Database Solutions tab > Data Connections > and the one listed under this is called "ASPNETD8.MDF", but when I click on this, I get this error message:

I installed sqlserver 2008 R2 on my laptop for development and am sure I sellected mixed mode for connecting. Anyway, I have been using it for a while with asp.net and when using sql server management studio connecting using windows authentication, everything
has been fine. I now need to connect to sql server using a login and password (installing umbraco) but cant seem to do this. I have tried connecting through sql server management studio using sql authentication with sa account but it always fails with error "login failed for user .... 18456". I have changed sa password in sql server management studio (as I can log in using windows authentication) but this did not work. I also created new users but still could not connect.
I'm a bit of a beginner to ASP.NET and I'm having a trouble connecting to SQL Server Express.

I opened a new MVC project in Visual Studio 2008 Pro, tried to run the basic template project, chose the logon/register page, enterered my details and got a runtime error message in AccountsModels.cs:

I am getting this error, without any further details, when attempting to debug my ASP.Net project in VS2010. There are other developers using the same tools and code who are not having this problem therefore I know the problem is not in the web.config file. I have found several suggestions when googling the issue and tried them all to no avail. I uninstalled and re-installed VS2010 along with the .Net 4 framework. I made sure Anonymous as well as Windows authentication is enabled in IIS. I uninstalled and reinstalled IIS. I am at a loss. I can attach to the process and debug the ASP.Net code that way, but what I really need to be working on is a Silverlight app that is called from the ASP.Net and the breakpoints don't work in Silverlight when I attach to the process manually.
View 3 RepliesI have VS 2010 professional. I am trying to open "ASP.Net Configuration" through Project -> ASP.Net Configuration.
It pops up the Notification about the ASP.Net Development Server localhost but doesn't open ASP.Net Configuration in the default browser.I clicked on the Root Url (by double clicking on the 'development server' at the right bottom from Notification Manager).
It throws following error
"An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again."
Clicking on "How do i use this tool".It opened page with error.
Tool Has Timed Out
