I want to know whether we have any new features or Framework related to UI design (like webparts) or any othere items which is introduced with the VS2010 for new way of desiging the Aspx page.
View 1 RepliesI have just downloaded Visual Web Developer Express 2008 and I am having problems getting basic features of the IDE to work.
In design mode for an aspx file:
1. The Split and Source tabs are not working.
2. I can not drag and drop controls from the Toolbox to the design surface.
I work in an development group in an enterprise, where we strive to seperate business units and their responsibilities. So for example, I am in the development group and we are responsible for all tasks related to developing applications. We have other roles such as dbas, or operational roles that are outside of our group and are responsible for things like deployment, server maintenance, etc.
I'm looking at features in VS such as the publish web app feature and the web.config transform feature and reading about them in blogs and various other places. Based on the majority of what I read it always seems that the writer is assuming that the developer is managing things like connection strings, user names, passwords for the different environments in web config transforms, then publishing to a remove server in some kind of production environment (be it live, or test or staging, etc).
An example is here. In our environment, and I assume others too, the scenario is somewhat more complex than is usually portrayed. The development group may not know where any of what they've developed is deployed. And administrators may move servers,databases etc and update configuration as characteristics of the environment dictate. So in these cases, how does web.config transforms help? Publish can still potentially be used locally to build artifacts for a deployment package but even you'd probably want to use some automated build manager instead.
So is publish and transforms really more suited for more rudimentary development processes where the barrier between development and operations is very grey? Or am I missing something? It just seems that a lot of things I've reading about this kind of thing have good intentions but are somewhat superficial in the context of a more defined development process.
Interested to know others opinions and experiences on this.
I was recently told by a colleague that VS 2010 has inbuilt features similar to Resharper (e.g. Ctrl T to find a class etc...). I have been experimenting with VS 2010 Ultimate edition but cannot seem to find these features.If the features exist could somebody point me in the right direction?

I want to see the design view while I am designing a site in ASP.NET using visual studio 2010 Ultimate, but I wondered there is no such option as design as there were in VS 2005 or VS 2008.

using visual studio to design questions and answers with outcome of the grade immediately after submition and with timing.

My VS 2008 Design button is broken, i.e. I click on it an nothing happens. I've rebooted, restarted, reinstalled VS, installed VS 2008 sp1 - nothing fixes this! Getting ready to try dynamite.
Then when I close VS it crashes, i.e. i get the message "visual studio is not responding and needs to restart".
Visual Studio ( VSTS 2008 ) design mode work good for long time and from about 2 weeks ago it's suddenly stop view any thing in design mode i tried a lot with trying in another projects even in a simple web page but no way it's doesn't view any thing in design mode ... I think to reinstall VS 2008 again but I don't know if is there any outher solution for that ?
View 1 RepliesAs far I know this is not supported for asp.net projects. It's quite handy for testing static/shared functions.any info if this will be available in future versions? Or if there are any alternative ways to test your functions in design mode?
View 1 RepliesThis error only happens when I launch an existing application, if I create a new app the error does not appear on that site. However if I try to enter Design mode the Windows Installer opens and hangs. I can still edit the code and even launch the app.
If I click "OK", I get a dialog box that starts a Windows Installer that does not install anything, it justs sits there. If I "cancel" the installer, VWDE dies.
The only thing different on my laptop is that I had Office 2007 Trial installed along side Office 2003 before I installed VWD, I then uninstalled the trial and used the clean-up tool at [URL] to clean up the trial.
I have tried to repair VWDE, I have uninstalled and reinstalled VWDE with no change. Ialso have VB Express running and get no errors when launching it.
I have a Razor coded view with extension .cshtml. I would like to see it in a design view, so I could put some controls from a tool box.
I am using Visual Studio Express.
When I'm in Design View I can't scroll down to the bottom of some of my pages. I've scrolled down as far as I can and the bottom is cut off. This doesn't happen on all the pages. I tried increasing the height for the ContentPlaceHolder.

View 4 Repliesi'm quite a newb in asp.net , so here we go:i used the dreamspark project in order to get VS 2008 pro (free and legal) , and then i started experiencing with asp.net .the problem is that whenever i choose the split mode, it doesn't go there at all, and whenever i choose the 'design' mode, the tab itself is frozen yet it's possible to close it. it doesn't matter what the file (with the aspx extention) has in it (even a
new blank website) , it always happen.i've tried to re-install VS2008 (after uninstallation&restart) and i also tried to uninstall anything related to dot net (and then install what is needed again through the installer of VS2008) . i even tried out the express version but it didn't work for me.

In the Source view has code. as I was coding and refreshed the split view (.ascx) it when blank. The so I when to the design view its blank too. The aspx page I can see the control.

View 1 RepliesI mainly do C# ASP.NET projects in VS2010. Once you've put masterpages and other things in place, I find the design view pretty much goes grey and elements can't be selected. This isn't so bad except that sometimes you need to access the little 'smart tags' at the top right of controls to do things.
In particular I'm trying to do this with some telerik controls, though the issue isn't confined to them.
Anyone have a handy tip to access this functionality (or miraculously make design view work!) ?
PS. I read in a few places that Shift-Alt-F10 may help. I tried putting my cursor in the control's tag and using it, no luck. Also I clicked the little rectangle below design view to select the control and tried it again- no luck.
I tried to follow the instructions in this link to get display the hidden elements but I don't see this option in my VS2008 Professional Edition

View 4 RepliesI use ResolveClientUrl to include css files in my page. When launched through web-server everything is OK, but in design mode css styles are not applied to the page. I use VS 2010 beta 2.

Same thing happens when I use any expression to specify an url for css How can I fix it? Or is it a bug of beta?
