View 2 RepliesI have web project and window project.Web project reference from window project and I want to debug from web project to source code in window project. Where do I setup to look for debug source code in window project.
I copied all source code from another computer. but on another computer can debug just fine.All that different is where the source file is located. so I think it should have some config in studio that tell where the source file is.
Background: I use SQL server 2005 developer edition and visual studio 2008. Visual studio 2008 is running on a local machine with Vista business edition. SQL server is running on a remote server using Windows server 2003. Both computers are within the same domain.
Problem: First, I used the server explorer to connect to the SQL server. Everything works as desired. Then I write code to do the same thing. I keep getting the following error message:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)
However, I used the exactly identical connection string as the one used in the server explorer. So connection string should not be the problem. In addition, I tried the test code in MSDN, which tells whether my domainusername can flow the network. It turns out the user name is fine. I also went to the SQL server management studio and found the login for my computer is NVCWeihao while my computer login name is NVCweihao. I am wondering if this uppercase letter really affects the connection.
I'm creating a website and I'm testing resgistering and Log-in.
I followed a simple tutorial to create a Log-in in Visual Studio C# template which generated a SQL Server database.Locally the Log-in and registration page works perfectly. The problem is that when I upload my site to the hosting site the navigation works but the Log-in and Registration forms send an error when clicked "Register" or "Log-in". I contacted the site and they upload my database the way it should be because I was doing it wrong. I can see all my files including the data base.
They commented me that I had to do a connection string to the data base so the login and registration forms can work. I don't understand how to do that, I know the connection string has to be declared in the Web Config File, the thing is that I don't know how to write that code and link it to my data base in the hosting site, in fact I have sample code but I don't know just what do I need to put in it.
'm using VS2010 Ultimate, but i cannot debug framework source code right now. i've setup all the configuration as need.

In my investigating i have come across number of tools(shown below) to use with Visual Studio 2008 professional
Development tool:- Visual Studio 2008 professional using Subversion as source control tool. Continuous Integration:- Hudson or Cruise control Build tool:- NAnt Testing:- NUnit, Selinium As Visual Studio 2008 can be used for unit testing I think NUnit is out of consideration.
In the same way i would like to have any other tools/add-ons to Visual studio to implement continuous integration, building and unit testing. This process should be automated such a way source code between team members is continuously integrated, built and unit testing is done as configured.
Objective is to use few number of tools as add-on to Visual Studio or achieve most from Visual studio itself (example unit testing). Visual Studio should be all in one tool.
I am aware that Team Foundation Server best suits my requirement, but it is out of scope due to its cost.
My VS 2008 IDE does not show "Debug" option in menu. Also F5 dosen't work and start button is disabled by default.

Now, whenever I run my application it takes me to the Resource Not Found error page. I have the default register route set in my Global config route which was working fine before.

How do I programmaticly set data source for Asp.net report control?I have a VS 2008 report control and want to switch between a couple different reports.I can switch repots by setting the report source and refreshing the control but I can't see where to set the data source.Each report has it's own data source and if I set them to start when the control is built it is fine but I need to switch between them.

View 1 RepliesI want to debug an ASP.Net website as it attempts to write a file to a directory.When actually deployed this file would possibly not be writeable by the worker process so an error would be thrown, this is not a problem as I just want to catch the error, inform the user and move on.Of course, if I'm debugging on my local machine then I'm an administrator and I have permission to write to the file, so I can't check that I've trapped the correct errors and I can't step through an see where it goes wrong if I haven't.

View 2 RepliesBasically what I am trying to do is have my webpage project folder located directly on my local machine (ex. Local #1). Our database is located on a server (ex. Server #1) . I am building my web applications on my local machine and then trying to debug them in Visual Studio 2008. Only every single time I click to debug my project I get a "Security Exception" error that looks something like the following...

I'm somewhat leaning towards the fact that I need to connect to the database to pull information from it and I don't have the proper permissions is the reason why this is happening but I've also read that it can be something that deals with improper configuration of my Web.Config file (i.e. I do not have something enabled).
Note #1: A co-worker of mine is having the same problem if he tries to put the project locally and then debug it. He has full administrative access to the DB and everything else.
I recently upgraded from VWD 2008 Express to VWD 2010 Express. A problem has developed in that the website's graphics no longer appear in Design mode, there are "Error Creating Control" error messages that did not exist before, and also debugging errors that did not exist before. (Note: these problems did not exist when I first used VWD 2010; they may have originated with recent automatic Windows updates (I use Vista Home Premium SP2 with IIS 7)). The problem exists if I open the website either as a project file or as a website directory.

It started lastnight, I had both Deamweaver and VWD 2008 express open at the same time - (I was looking at JQuery in the Microsoft and Dreamweaver enviroments simultaniously). After the first tie this happened, I closed down Dreamweaver (CS3) and it opened when I tried to run my VWD project. I reinstalled VWD 2008 express, IIS and disabled Dreamweaver (renamed the exe). Dreamweaver still came up.
