Feb 17, 2010I am recently a layed off windows developer. It appears the only jobs available now are for web developers. I'm trying to learn this on my own but I think prospective employers might be more apt to hire a newbie if they have some accredited training.

Can't Find The C# Version Of The Learning Videos?
May 7, 2010I am refreshing my memory in web forms by using the videos posted in this website. But for some reason I cant find the c# version of the video Introduction to asp.net controls in the web forms section (only vb.net is available). I tried other videos but it is all the same.

Apr 19, 2010I have a website that is being hosted by GoDaddy.com and we're using asp.net. We are running into problems converting from local hosting to online hosting. It works completely on the localside, but we can't quite figure out all of the things we need to do to switch it over to the network side. The main issue is getting access to the webservice that was setup.

C# - Find Good .NET Online Tutorials For Web Development?
Feb 16, 2010I'm a Coldfusion Web Developer and I'm finding that in my local area,work for CF Devs has become extremely scarce.There were a handful of companies that were Coldfusion houses a few years ago and it appears most of them have moved away from CF development.I'm looking to expand my skillset to improve my employment outlook, and it appears that many of the web development positions that are available to me now are focused around .NET web development.The last time i took a look at .NET as a web development platform was way back during 2.0; where I found it to be poorly organized and extremely unfocused.
Apparently somewhere along the line I missed the boat because that's where about 90% of the web development jobs in my area are now.I've done some searching on google to see if I can find a tutorial, something that's akin to hand-holding, and have come back dissapointed.
So I'm turning to the SO community to ask for links and resources that might help better explain how .NET development works in a web development capacity,and for links to these resources so I can begin boning up my knowledge and start writing practice applications.

Feb 4, 2011I am exporting an excel file in my action. Based on whether the excel exported or not i'm returning a boolean as json result and i want to check the boolean to display success or failure. But i'm getting a popup asking for "Do you want to save this file, or find a program online to open it?" How can i avoid the popup?

May 3, 2010I have an ASMX Web Service that has its code entirely in a code-behind file, so that the entire contents of the .asmx file is:

On my test machine (Windows XP with IIS 5), I set up a virtual directory just for this ASP.NET 2.0 solution and everything works great. All my code is separated nicely and it just works.However, when we deployed this solution to our Windows Server 2003 development environment, we noticed that the code only compiled when all of the code was dropped directly into the .asmx file, meaning that the solution didn't work with code-behind. We can't figure out why this is happening.
One thing that's different about our setup in our development environment is that instead of creating a separate virual directory just for this solution, we dropped it into an existing directory that runs a classic ASP application. So here we have a folder with an ASP.NET 2.0 application within a directory that contains a classic ASP application. Granted, everything in the ASP.NET 2.0 application works if all of the code is within the .asmx file and not in code-behind, but we'd really like to know why it's not recognizing the code-behind files and compiling it correctly.

Mar 18, 2010I have a co-worker who supervises a group of ASP.NET developers who are doing lots of ASP.NET/SQL Server apps. My co-worker was very technical at one time, but his last programming assignment was writing Fortran code in the 1980s.
He has asked me to help him gain a deeper knowledge of ASP.NET Web application development to equip him in his supervisory role. I will be spending an hour every other week with him providing training, and he will probably not have a lot of time to commit otherwise.
What would you recommend as topics to cover, tutorial resources, etc. so that I can help him get up to speed in his role as a supervisor of ASP.NET developers?
Learning / Training Question - Class Vs Consultant Trainer?
Apr 27, 2010I have 9 years web development experience in another platform, I am jumping into a new project and have decided to use this opportunity to learn ASP.Net on the fly!I have browsed my share of .Net books and watched many hours of .Net videos and have been considering attending a formal 5 day training class. But I was also considering that for the same money or maybe even less I could hire a very experienced .Net consultant to teach me the things I am struggling with, answer my questions and even show me how to implement these concepts into my current project. This idea seems to be alot more flexible as well.My concern with taking a class is there will probably be some hours in there spent on concepts I could learn from a video in 5 minutes or read out of a book. I just think I could get more bang for my buck with a "Personal Trainer".

ASMX :: WCF Service Find Current Url?
Oct 7, 2010 I have a WCF Service that loads a file located on a local web server. How can I load that file based off an Uri? So I don't have to hard code in the address? So instead of doing a XmlDocument.Load(http://mywebaddress/ConfigFile/config.xml); I could put in or find the current URL of webservice then add the parameter. Sort of like this:
XmlDocument.Load("~/ConfigFile/config.xml"); That way if I'm publishing or Debugging it's all one file in the same exact location.

Feb 25, 2010I want to create a Online Exam site in ASP.NET .In that i want to display Test based on the Date and time and the user can take the test at the time set my the Teacher.
For Example:
Teacher want to take C Test for the Mid Semester Test and the test is schedule on 1 May 2010,then the test should appear on the test page on the 1st may only and the user should be able to take the test on the set time.
The problem is that if i use System time then user can change the system time and can take the test schedule in future.
So i want to know how can implement this thing.I have given many online test but dont know how they work out the time and date logic.

Aug 18, 2010I created a WCF Service Library and there're 2 services (http endpoint and https endpoint) in the App.cofig file. The WCF Service Host had not problem to host the http endpoint but failed to host the https endpoint with these messages:
WCF Service Host cannot find any metadata. Additional Info: The service cannot be started. This service has no endpoint defined. Please add at least one endpoint for the service in config file and try again.
What's wrong with the configuration?

WCF / ASMX :: Webpart - Could Not Find Default Endpoint Element That References Contract
Mar 28, 2011i am trying to call a webmethod from a webservice within a webpart-project and just cant instanciate the class within my webservice. CongressDataExternalSoapClient wsSAP = new CongressDataExternalSoapClient(); at this line i get the following error message: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'com.miltenyibiotec.webservice.congress.CongressDataExternalSoap' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application...
attention should be paid to "SoapClient" at the end of my Class-Name: "CongressDataExternal". VS cannot find the Web-Class CongressDataExternal. in other ASP.NET-Projects, its possible... but not here!!! so the only class i can see is the CongressDataExternalSoapClient. i can also see the interfaces CongressDataExternalSoap and CongressDataExternalSoapChannel. i have already added the needed entries to the webconfig:

Feb 7, 2010is it possible to create kind of widgets that are pluggable in ASP.NET MVC? I'd like to give my users the option to upload and attach a widget that I provide (ie. zip format). Recently I thought about deploying Areas in different project assemblies. Is it still possible with MVC RC2 (later RTM) and is there an option to dynamically attach that areas (say from a admin panel)?
Second question, how would you guys create a dynamic layout where admins could select widgets to display, arrange them, disable, move them etc.? I mean a flexible layout that can be changed via the admin panel without having to touch the code. Here I thought about defining and storing layout widgets paths in a db. Later I could associate these widgets with routes (in db). For each request (controller, action) I would fetch the layout among with associated widgets and output them recursively. Probably I could user RenderAction and PartialViews for that.s my direction correct or should I focus on some other technique?
