WCF / ASMX :: Removing A Number From Array List With Web Service?
Mar 25, 2010
I need to pass a random number from 1 to 100 from the client to a webservice, and then the webservice will subtract this number from the list of 100 numbers (say 1-100). Then, in the next call, the next random number will be subtracted from the rest 99 numbers and so on.
I need this to be done with AJAX. I don't know where the Array list should be held in the first place (would it be in the web service or in the code behind? ), and how this can be done?

I was just wanting to "cleanup" my WSDL for my .NET 4.0 WCF Web Service and I have most references to tempuri.org changed, except two.
I have added
[Code]....
But, my WSDL still has a reference to
<wsdl:definitions ... xmlns:i0="http://tempuri.org/" ...
and
<wsdl:import namespace="http://tempuri.org/" ...

A sample web service app I have been practicing with has two web methods:
1) HelloWorld -- which I can read the data from no problem - just a string
2) ClientData[] -- which returns an array of struct objects -- this is where I have the question.
Here is my instantiation of the webservice in my winform app for reading from HelloWorld
myWebSvc1.WebService1 s1 = new myWebSvc1.WebService1();
string y = s1.HelloWorld(); //--no problems so far here
Console.WriteLine(y);
//--but when I add the call to GetClientData() I have a problem
List<ClientData> ls = new List<ClientData>(s1.GetClientData(3)); //--problem here
public struct ClientData
{
public String Name;
public int ID;
}
[WebMethod(CacheDuration = 30,
Description="Returns an array of Clients.")]
public ClientData[] GetClientData(int Number)
{
ClientData [] Clients = null;
if (Number > 0 && Number <= 10)
{
Clients = new ClientData[Number];
for (int i = 0; i < Number; i++)
{
Clients[i].Name = "Client " + i.ToString();
Clients[i].ID = i;
}
}
return Clients;
}
If I browse the .asmx file -- the sample xml returns the following if I enter 3 for GetClientData function param
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
- <ArrayOfClientData xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://codeproject.com/webservices/">
- <ClientData>
<Name>Client 0</Name>
<ID>0</ID>
</ClientData>
- <ClientData>
<Name>Client 1</Name>
<ID>1</ID>
</ClientData>
- <ClientData>
<Name>Client 2</Name>
<ID>2</ID>
</ClientData>
</ArrayOfClientData>
From my winform app I get the following error messages when trying to add the GetClientData function call above --
Error 1 The best overloaded method match for 'System.Collections.Generic.List<DSS_2008.Form7.ClientData[]>.List(System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<DSS_2008.Form7.ClientData[]>)' has some invalid arguments
Error 2 Argument '1': cannot convert from 'DSS_2008.myWebSvc1.ClientData[]' to 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<DSS_2008.Form7.ClientData[]>'

Error 2 Argument '1': cannot convert from 'DSS_2008.myWebSvc1.ClientData[]' to 'int'
How can I fix this so that I can read the result into my winform app?

In the web servce I say
public List<Customer> GetCustomers()
{
PR1Entities dc = new PR1Entities();
var q = (from x in dc.Customers
select x).ToList();
return q;
}
(customer is a entity object)
Then I generate the proxy when I add the service.. and in the reference.cd it say
public wcf1.ServiceReference1.Customer[] GetCustomers() {
return base.Channel.GetCustomers();
}
WHY IS IT AN ARRAY? I asked for a List.

The way I quickly test the asmx file is to "View in Browser" from Visual Studio (I'm using 2005, and have IIS 6). The address shows up like this:
"http://localhost:1399/MyWebService.asmx"
where 1399 is a generated random number and can change each time I test by this process.
The books I've been reading (as well as other sources in the internet) keep referring to testing web services by typing something like this in the browser:
"http://localhost/MyFolder/MyWebService.asmx"
where "MyWebService" is the name of the web service and "MyFolder" is where that webservice is.
This "http://localhost/" with no port number testing never worked for me. Some books mention random port numbers, but most do not even mention port numbers. [URL]

I am fairly new to C# programming and I am stuck on my little ASP.NET project.
My website currently examines Twitter statuses for URLs and then adds those URLs to an array, all via a regular expression pattern matching procedure. Clearly more than one person will update a with a specific URL so I do not want to list duplicates, and I want to count the number of times a particular URL is mentioned in, say, 100 tweets.
Now I have a List<String> which I can sort so that all duplicate URLs are next to each other. I was under the impression that I could compare list[i] with list[i+1] and if they match, for a counter to be added to (count++), and if they don't match, then for the URL and the count value to be added to a new array, assuming that this is the end of the duplicates.
This would remove duplicates and give me a count of the number of occurrences for each URL. At the moment, what I have is not working, and I do not know why (like I say, I am not very experienced with it all).
With the code below, assume that a JSON feed has been searched for using a keyword into srchResponse.results. The results with URLs in them get added to sList, a string List type, which contains only the URLs, not the message as a whole.
I want to put one of each URL (no duplicates), a count integer (to string) for the number of occurrences of a URL, and the username, message, and user image URL all into my jagged array called 'urls[100][]'. I have made the array 100 rows long to make sure everything can fit but generally, this is too big. Each 'row' will have 5 elements in them.
The debugger gets stuck on the line: if (sList[i] == sList[i + 1]) which is the crux of my idea, so clearly the logic is not working.
Here is sample code:
var sList = new ArrayList();
string[][] urls = new string[100][];
int ctr = 0;
int j = 1;
foreach (Result res in srchResponse.results)
{
string content = res.text;
string pattern = @"((https?|ftp|gopher|telnet|file|notes|ms-help):((//)|(\\))+[wd:#@%/;$()~_?+-=\.&]*)";
MatchCollection matches = Regex.Matches(content, pattern);
foreach (Match match in matches)
{
GroupCollection groups = match.Groups;
sList.Add(groups[0].Value.ToString());
}
}
sList.Sort();
foreach (Result res in srchResponse.results)
{
for (int i = 0; i < 100; i++)
{
if (sList[i] == sList[i + 1])
{
j++;
}
else
{
urls[ctr][0] = sList[i].ToString();
urls[ctr][1] = j.ToString();
urls[ctr][2] = res.text;
urls[ctr][3] = res.from_user;
urls[ctr][4] = res.profile_image_url;
ctr++;
j = 1;
}
}
}
The code then goes on to add each result into a StringBuilder method with the HTML.Is now edite

Another niggling issule. I am trying to remove all the databound items from my listview but it doesn't work. I am trying to remove the items as i have used the delete command button (alongside with the updateand edit)
I have tried.
listview1.items.clear();
listview1.datasource = null;
listview1.databind();
But none of these have worked. I have also tried removing the item via it's index.

A customer reported that our asmx web service is continually increasing in memory (mem usage as well as private bytes). We are able to reproduce the problem in our lab with Windows 2003 Server SP2 (fully patched) on some of the machines. The customer is using Windows 2008.
We created a Hello World web service targeting the 2.0 framework built under VS2005 SP1 and a test client that continues to call it. The memory increases steadily - approximately 40K per client request. If the test app is paused, the memory remains the same. When it is closed, the memory drops. Explicit calling of GC.Collect does not drop the memory.
We have run the memory profiler on the service and the leak is all native memory. We have uninstalled/re-installed the Framework on one of the machines but no difference. To our knowledge all of the security and IIS settings are not modified. We have compared app pool, default web site and virtual directory properties to machines that have no problem and they are identical.

I have a list of objects that have values to them. Specifically one of these values if a boolean (isAbnormal) to determine whether or not the value itself is classified by our application logic as "Abnormal" or not.
I have composed a list of a mixture of abnormal/not abnormal items. I want and need to remove items from this list that aren't clsasified as being abnormal (in programming logic, isAbnormal will be false)
I have tried several ways and can think of some dirty/ugly ways to get it, but there has to be something better:

In WCF Service i am able to get user identity by using : Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name;
WCF Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication. ASMX Web Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication.
