WCF / ASMX :: WCF Service As Https Using Port 80?
Nov 9, 2010I have just noticed that a WCF service referenced as https in the web address is showing that the client is connecting on port 80

View 11 Replieswe have a situation where we need to host two certificates on the same server and because we can't have two different certificates on the same server running off the same port we have assigned one certificate run through another port, which is 4443.
So the URL to our web app is now....
[URL]
If I punch this into a web browser I can access it fine, however, if I create a web reference using this URL in Visual Studio (2005) it can create the web reference fine and it builds ok. But whenever I call a web method on this service instance I get a HTTP 404 page not found Exception.
Is there any properties I need to set on the web service object to get this to work? I'm confused as to why it's not working.
I have to develop a WCF Service which should listen to a particular TCP port for data coming in from clients. Is there a way wherein the client need not call any WCF Service methods, instead client can directly write data to that port and WCF listens to TCP port for data.
View 3 RepliesThe way I quickly test the asmx file is to "View in Browser" from Visual Studio (I'm using 2005, and have IIS 6). The address shows up like this:
"http://localhost:1399/MyWebService.asmx"
where 1399 is a generated random number and can change each time I test by this process.
The books I've been reading (as well as other sources in the internet) keep referring to testing web services by typing something like this in the browser:
"http://localhost/MyFolder/MyWebService.asmx"
where "MyWebService" is the name of the web service and "MyFolder" is where that webservice is.
This "http://localhost/" with no port number testing never worked for me. Some books mention random port numbers, but most do not even mention port numbers. [URL]
I am trying to deploy a wcf service. I have created a simple service, basically I have created a new wcf service and tried to deploy it however I get this error
The type 'WCF_Application.Service1', provided as the Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive, or provided in the configuration element system.serviceModel/serviceHostingEnvironment/serviceActivations could not be found.
I am trying to deploy my service to a subdomain like
https://services.mydomain.com/business
My config looks like this
[Code]....
I created a WCF Service Library and there're 2 services (http endpoint and https endpoint) in the App.cofig file. The WCF Service Host had not problem to host the http endpoint but failed to host the https endpoint with these messages:
WCF Service Host cannot find any metadata. Additional Info: The service cannot be started. This service has no endpoint defined. Please add at least one endpoint for the service in config file and try again.
What's wrong with the configuration?

I wrote some webservices in my solution and it works fine when i consume it in my local machine... BUT when i deploy it in the public IP and using https. I'm not able to consume the webservices i got a "The provided URI scheme 'https' is invalid; expected 'http'. Parameter name: via" Error...
I tried to change my configuration in my web app from security mode="None" into security mode = "transport" and I got an error... (forgot to log the error)
Note* I'm using virtual IIS (this is where i test my project)
im using wcf how can i make sure to my service file from client side.
my web service file (service.svc) should not acceable on client side....on https security(ssl)
I am very new to WCF, I have read a lot and seen several presentations about it. I can get the basicHttp endpoint to work on my server but when i wanted to use https, I found that that endpoint binding doesnt work. I think through my research that the wsHttp binding is what i need. I can get the client to work but the service gives me a few different errors when I try to call the ssl endpoint.
Currently i get the following error:
The requested service, 'https://devwcftestsite.crata.ucf.edu/services/Person.svc/Person' could not be activated. See the server's diagnostic trace logs for more information.
Below I have included the web.config for my service project which is hosted at:https://devwcftestsite.crata.ucf.edu/services the service is called:Person.svc

I have an asp.net web service which has SSL enabled via IIS. It works fine if the user uses https, however I have a user that insists on using http on the url.
What I'd like to do is have the web service (asmx) do the equivalent of the response.redirect to change http to https automatically.
I don't believe that I can do this from a web service so does anyone know a of a similar solution for web services.
We have a problem regarding webservices when it runs in https. it say's that the service is undefined. BUT when we try it in http it runs okay...

View 2 RepliesA customer reported that our asmx web service is continually increasing in memory (mem usage as well as private bytes). We are able to reproduce the problem in our lab with Windows 2003 Server SP2 (fully patched) on some of the machines. The customer is using Windows 2008.
We created a Hello World web service targeting the 2.0 framework built under VS2005 SP1 and a test client that continues to call it. The memory increases steadily - approximately 40K per client request. If the test app is paused, the memory remains the same. When it is closed, the memory drops. Explicit calling of GC.Collect does not drop the memory.
We have run the memory profiler on the service and the leak is all native memory. We have uninstalled/re-installed the Framework on one of the machines but no difference. To our knowledge all of the security and IIS settings are not modified. We have compared app pool, default web site and virtual directory properties to machines that have no problem and they are identical.
I have a .net app developed in .net 4.0 version. And I implemented an asmx web service in this. Now I want to call one of the webservice method in another classis ASP application java script function.

I am kinda new to WCF and the setting up of service and have 2 questions. My first question I have a service that will be accessed via https on a web server. However locally on my local IIS7, it will be accessed via http as https is not available. How can I set up a service to be accessed by both?
My second question is regarding how I can set up a service that requires a username and password to be accessed. The service that I have in place I dont want methods within it to be accessed unless the calling application has the rights to do so?
Here is an example of the relevant area of my web.config file.
<system.serviceModel>
<bindings>
<webHttpBinding>
<!-- standard AJAX binding that supports SSL -->
<binding name="TransportSecurity">
<security mode="Transport" />

In this config, the service is set up for http only and not username/password applied to it.
Is it possible to run a web service as a particular user/service account in the same way a Windows service can?I have a service account used for connecting to the DB and want to run the webservice under this account as the users using the webservice won't have DB access.The way I see to do it is to include the Impersonate option in the Web.config file, but is there any better way to do this?

View 1 RepliesMy WCF Client calls my WCF Service which then calls ASMX Web Service. The problem is i have configured my wcf client and wcf service to windows credentials type but when wcf service calls asmx service the user credentials (default windowsidentity) is not passed to asmx service.
In WCF Service i am able to get user identity by using : Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name;
WCF Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication. ASMX Web Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication.

View 1 RepliesWe set up a paypal gateway on our site using paypal NVP API: Our IIS web server is set up for SSL, though I just created a cert on the locally machine. When we load HTTPS the browser gives a warning about security before the page will load. I know a local cert won't cut it for SSL, so I think we need a verisign cert? [URL] Is this correct? How can I know that the cert I am getting will get along with paypal and elimante any security warnings for the user.
