WCF / ASMX :: Sending State From Webservice Back To Application?

I would appreciate if anyone can give me some tips or ideas on a scenario I am working on. For instance, I have an asp.net solution and a webservice. I am sending data to the webservice which updates the settings, and while its doing it I would like the asp.net solution (website) to have a sort of log on the screen showing the user whats happening/which settings are being updated...Now from the webservice, while the settings/updates are being done, is it possible to send a request/state back to the asp.net project while that setting is being updated, rather than sending 1 setting at a time?

I have one problem is that when i send large dataset containing byte array.. then webservice not respond well..
it shows error like underlying connection was closed...
I mark that when dataset size goes some large then only problem occurs otherwise it works well..

I have a webservice that sends the response back in XML format.I'm able to connect and call the webservice adding an external web reference to the Visual Studio project.Then in my code behind:As New servicename_addedLabel1.Text = servicename_added.Functionexposed(param1, param2, etc)With that code I can get the response in a large label and unstructured data. If I "view source" I see the XML structured data.I have tried to create an XML document without success.My goal is to parse the response and write it to a database separating all the fields.

I need to write a webservice to be consumed by an application. The application will read the WSDL and provide me with the input output fields that I can utilise. The webservice output should be an array of string values as the output. I have taken a dataset and can output that as XML but I need to provide a description in WSDL what the output format will be and I cannot seems to get my head around to that. What I need is something similar to[URL] but do not how to write the WSDL to give me a clear input and output structure in the definition.

On my page I have a dropdown for country.
On my asmx service I want to get the value of the dropdownlist to filter the next input which will be state/providence.
My code on the asmx:

I want to add another clause to the WHERE statement to restrict Country = @Country so I will need to get that value to the web service.

Customer were getting "View State Validation Error" due to worker process recycling at our production webserver and to fix that i applied machinekey and then move my Session state Mode from In Proc to State Server to retain session data and not kick out the customer to relogin. I had serialization issue with one object which has to be stored in session but when i moved it out of session i could able to resolve the issue.
But doing all these i was partly successfull in keeping the user in their session when Worker Process recycle event occurs.I was able to refresh the page or make a post back by clicking the refresh button and also able to retain the session values. But the Problem occurs when sending asynchronous request to server which we do periodically every 15 minutes from the moment the user logs in.The web page doesnot update data on website when sending asynchronous request.By Debugging I found at this particular code point it fails to make a postback which is required.

WebForm_DoCallback('__Page',message,ShowHint,null,null,false) on postback) Everything works fine when there is no Worker Process Recyling but when it happens looks like sending request asynchronously using javascript fails .Remember When I make a post back by manually clicking submit button everything works fine.

I have spent a couple of days on this one. I have an ASP.NET website that has Linkbuttons on
the Default.aspx page.. I added a WebService to the Website because later on the WebService will
subscribe to a Provider(Feed) of News, Sports and Weather and things like that. So when a Linkbutton
on the Default.aspx page is clicked it will connect to the link in the WebService which will load the News,
Sports or Weather onto the Default.aspx web page.
The problem is I can't get the LinkButton to execute the Link in the WebService. The link will call the page up
to where you see all of the Web References. But then if you want to execute one of those references you
have to click its link and the Invoke button that will follow. My questioh is how can the link on my Default.aspx
page execute the link in the WebService. Now I changed the LinkButton into an <a href> but I still can't execute
the link in the WebServices. I always use www.Microsoft.com as the link when testing and I wasn't sure about the return type
so I put "void" for an HTTPRequest, so below is the link from the Default.aspx web page and below that is he asmx file:

i am using combination of jquery and JSON based webservice in most of projets. Lately i am facing this problem. if the data returned from webservice is huge ajax call from jquery fails. yup i know i can implement paging etc etc but is there a way i can increase the limit to get more data from webservice with jquery ajax call?

I'm converting a bunch of FOXPRO / FOXWEB apps to ASP.NET.
The underlying DB is still foxpro (for the moment).
I am passing a table to some VB.NET code that I want to have converted to a CSV file and sent back to the client for download. And it works! Sort of ... It works sometimes, but at other times, instead of asking me if I want to download the CSV file, it just spews the file to the browser window.
On the asp side, I am passing the response object, the table and the csv file name.

I was looking for an asp.net webservice that uses .net 4.0 but everytime I choose 4.0 the webservice choice goes away.Someone suggested to me that maybe they(MS) want you to use WCF instead. I don't know much about it but he said they are like webservices but better. So anyone got a comparisons guide?
