Web Forms :: Accessing Dynamically Created Elements In Server Code

May 8, 2010

I have a page where i am creating a number of <span> elements using clientside code.

I am creating the elements using jquery like this

[Code]....

But this returns a null object everytime. I have tried this code on a span that is on the page at the beginning and it works so i guess its something to do with how im creating the control dynamically.

VS 2010 - Accessing Dynamically Created Server Controls

Jun 8, 2012

Ok, so I'm dynamically adding <input type="File" />'s to the page via button click, client-side via Javascript.

Now when I click the upload button I can access the PostedFiles server side, but I also have radio button lists that I've created dynamically as well with no runat="server".

If I were to .setAttribute("runat","server") for the radio lists I create, is there a way to access that client-side created server control, from the server side?

Javascript - Keep Track Of Dynamically Created DOM Elements?

Mar 26, 2010

Assume you have a page in ASP.NET where it makes sense to use JavaScript/jQuery to modify the DOM with values that will eventually be read by the server on submit. For example, you have a form that allows end users to add/remove objects (like dependents on a health insurance form or assets on a loan application). What are some ways to ensure that these items are detected and retrieved by the server once the information is submitted?

I've tried a few things that work, but none of them seem perfect so I wanted to see what the community had to offer. Also, I'm not looking for suggestions that avoid dynamic DOM elements (like use a Wizard, etc.). I'm specifically trying to improve my technique with dynamically created DOM elements.

Accessing Controls Created Dynamically (c#)

Jun 5, 2010

In my code behind (c#) I dynamically created some RadioButtonLists with more RadioButtons in each of them. I put all controls to a specific Panel.What I need to know is how to access those controls later as they are not created in .aspx file (with drag and drop from toolbox)?

I tried this:

foreach (Control child in panel.Controls)
{
Response.Write("test1");
[code]....

"test1" and "test2" dont show up in my page. That means something is wrong with this logic.

VS 2010 - Accessing Data From Dynamically Created DropdownLists

Dec 20, 2012

I have it setup so that when a user selects an item from a DropdownList, that some DropdownLists are dynamically created, based on the results from the Database that are returned after selecting the item in the first DropDownList.

Then, I have a button that takes the data and saves it to an object I've created for this, and I try to iterate through the Controls of the Placeholder that I added the DropdownList controls to.

However, the Placeholder says there are no controls in it, when I press the button, but I can obviously see them there.

Here is some code:

When a "Pilot" is selected, I get all of the Upgrade Types that that "Pilot" has access to, then I create a DropdownList for each type of Upgrade with all the actual Upgrades of that Type:

VB Code:
For Each u As UpgradeTypeList In upgrades
Dim lbl As New Label
Dim ddl As New DropDownList
ddl.AutoPostBack = False

[Code] ....

Then, when the "Add Squad Member" button is pressed, I am trying to iterate through the controls, pick out any DropdownLists and get the values from them and add them to a List Of in an object for the Pilot info:

VB Code:
Protected Sub btnAddSquadMember_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles btnAddSquadMember.Click
For Each c As Control In rowUpgrades.Controls
If TypeOf c Is DropDownList Then
Dim DoesExist As Boolean = False

[Code] ....

But, the controls supposedly don't exist and no values get added to the List(Of).

Web Forms :: Want To Put Code In Dynamically Created Controls?

May 28, 2010

I need to create web controls (e.g. label etc) dynamically.The problem is that for example,

on my onload event, I create a label. The text of the label is read from one line of a xml file.

But sometimes the text should be like " Messages (4)", in which the message count is something not generic and need some logic to calculate. I tried to put things like "Message (<#% MessageCount %>) " in my xml file, but the displayed text label is:

Message (<#% MessageCount %>) instead of Message (4 ).

VS 2010 / Get Dynamically Created User Controls In Code-behind?

Jan 31, 2012

I dynamically build up a table of dates/hours worked by a user.

Last row, for each date (column) contains a little user control where the user can enter some text.

The user control work with some jQuery/UI and I will end up with each control have a date and reason set in hidden controls.

How do I get hold of these controls only when the user click a button in the code-behind? (silly question I know, but I'm not used to how webforms does its' thing)

Web Forms :: Attaching A Dynamically Created Checkbox To The Server Side Form?

Jul 29, 2010

I am trying to allow for multiple selection check boxes that are created dynamically.

The Following code is written for each row in the dataTable (I print it as HTML code)

<input type='checkbox' name='multiCheck' id='chk{1}' value='{1}' runat='server'/>

however, on the server side (after postback) I can't read them from the Request Object. How do I "mark" them so I can read them at the postback?

protected void DeleteSelection_Click(object sender, ImageClickEventArgs e)
{
int multiIdsToDelete = Request.Form["multiCheck"]; <-- In the Future will be added to an array so I can do the delete for each row selected.

Forms Data Controls :: Accessing Textbox Elements In GridView

Jul 12, 2010

I have a Gridview X in which there are 6 columns(5 template columns that are text boxes and 1 bound field). The user has the option of changing the value in the text boxes annd saving them. There is one more GridView Y that displays DB values(all 6 columns are bound fields). Initially X will show the values that being shown in Y, and when user changes the values in Y,he should be able to save it. If we are trying this using OnTextChanged event of asp:Textbox, there is a postback everytime the user makes a change in any of the textboxes. Instead i want it such a way that all the changed values should get concatenated together and should be sent to the DB.

Finding And Accessing Elements Of A WebUserControl?

Mar 3, 2010

I am creating a WebUserControl in ASP.net and want to be able to access elements of that control later. When I access them though I am trying to access them together. For example, adding a CheckBox and a table to a control and then finding the CheckBox, checking whether it has been ticked and if it has been ticked, get the values from the TextBoxes.

I currently have everything loading on the page from the custom controls, but when iterating through the controls on the page, there doesn't appear to be a control of my WebUserControl type. All of the controls are there on the page, but they exist as seperate ASP.net controls.

Am I thinking about this wrong? Is there a better way to do this?

Web Forms :: Use Dynamically Created Controls Such As A Checkbox List And Fill The Values Dynamically?

Sep 28, 2010

I'm creating an quiz application which queries the database and extracts the questions and choices. I use dynamically created controls such as a checkbox list and fill the values dynamically. How do I do this? Right now I have these functions:

array_random_init(); this creates a 10 element integer array from 1-20 - extract_question(i): this extracts a question indexed at i in DB, I created the controls and set the appropriate text in this function. - validate_question(i); this is called by button_click and validates the question i according to DB.

I understand I have to recreate the controls in Page_init on postback, but what should it look like? Do I need to add "if IsPostBack" in page_init, or do I create the controls in page_init() and reset their properties in page_load when I use extract_question(i)? Also, I cannot seem to clear the selected boxes on postback, I added page directive "enableviewstate=false" but it doesn't work.

Web Forms :: How To Use AddHandler To Dynamically Assign Events To Dynamically Created Buttons

Feb 14, 2011

I have a website that sales associates access to view account information with clients. S.A's can only view information for accounts that they are tied to. Some clients have more than one account, S.A's can be tied to more than one account, but not all accounts of one client need to be tied to one S.A.

On the account info pages, I have account numbers (dynamically displayed labels) displayed of other accounts that the account client is associated with, which the S.A's can see. I'm modding this so that if the S.A has viewing permissions of any of the other accounts on that list of accounts, that instead of a label being displayed, a button directing them to that account page will display instead. In order for this to work, I have to attach a security function to the button, otherwise the page will blow out on the S.A's.

So I'm running a piece that is displaying a button instead of a label, which is working fine. My problem is when I try to attach the security event to the dynamically displayed buttons. It seems that the page just posts back and doesn't execute my code at all.

On my Page_Load, I'm running this after the buttons and labels are displayed:

For x = 0 to tblAccountList.Rows.Count - 1
'use a try to target the button, use catch to handle if it's instead a label, only one cell per row.
Try
Dim accountLink as Button = tblAccountList.Rows(x).Controls(0)
Addhandler accountLink.Click, AddressOf Me.PermissionViewCheck
Catch ex as InvalidCastException
Continue For
End Try
Next

I don't have any code checking for postbacks or anything like that, but the "PermissionViewCheck" event never fires and just reposts the page.
