i have winform application with method to generate excel report, now i want to transfer this to asp .net.
User click button and on the server side start method (generate excel report to temp file), then ready temp file transfer to client side. That's how i imagine this process in asp .net. There's no problem to transfer file from server side to client. Problem in process of generation excel report. Excisting code doesn't work, because excel application must be started and visible and how can i do this on server side?
Maybe this is absolutely wrong way and such things doing different way?
I have a web application in asp.net and C# that must access a remote server to copy some files. The web application basically deploys other web applications. Let us say that the web app runs on a "developement" server and needs to interact with a "production" server. From the user's point of view they are both remote machines. He accesses the application (running on the "developement" machine) on his browser and does not see the code and the access credentials to the "production" machine

I would love to create a "daemon" which in specified time intervals will move-transfer any zip files uploaded by the users from a.example.com to b.example.com
From the info i gathered so far,
The daemon will be an .ashx generic handler. The daemon will be triggered at the specified time intervals via a plesk cron job The daemon (thanks to SLaks) will consist of two FtpWebRequest's (One for reading and one for writing).
So the question is how could i implement step 3?
Do i have to read into to a memory() array the whole file and try to write that in b.example.com ? How could i write the info i read to b.example.com? Could i perform reading and writing of the file at the same time?
No i am not asking for the full code, i just can figure out, how could i perform reading and writing on the fly, without user interaction.
I mean i could download the file locally from a.example.com and upload it at b.example.com but that is not the point.
I have a class which implements IHttpHandler that is designed to handle image resize requests. It handles Urls like so [URL] Currently the handler looks for myimg.jpg on disk, cuts a 100x100 thumbnail (if it isn't already present) and redirects the client to the thumbnail like so Response.RedirectPermanent("/some/virtualPath/to/thumbnail.jpg");
This has been working great, but I would like to avoid forcing the client to issue a second HTTP request. Is it safe to do the following? Server.Transfer("/some/virtualPath/to/thumbnail.jpg") All the MSDN documentation talks about using Server.Transfer() to redirect to an aspx page, so I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do or not.

View 2 RepliesI have written below the requirement of my client
"We should also have an option under the contacts tab, for a chat option .The idea behind it is that if a user is looking to communicate with a staff person they should be able to open a chat session and start a typing their questions and/or concerns. While building the chat option, the chats should be logged for certain period of time and there should be an option of retrieving particular chat sessions as needed."
What is the best way to implement this ? I prefer jquery plugin for implementing the above task () ? I am using asp.net 2.0.Is there any need to update to 3.5 to achieve the above task ?

I have written a program that interprets bar charts on the web and converts them into textual summaries. It is blind and visually impaired get more information during their web surfing. Anyways, right now all of the processing is handled on the user's machine and it is a very resource intensive program. So, I wanted to make it so the main computation was done by a server so that the user could simply click on a graph and get the summary instead of waiting while the computation was being done. Does anyone have a clue how to tackle this problem? If you need more information let me know.

View 4 RepliesI know that ASP.NET MVC has error filter attribute to handle specified error type. However, this feature cannot catch any error that occurs when application start. Therefore, I need to add some code to "Application_Error" method for handling this error like the following code.
public void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e)
{// At this point we have information about the error
var ctx = HttpContext.Current;
var exception = ctx.Server.GetLastError();
