Web Forms :: Controls Showing As Null In PreInit Event Of Content Page

Mar 29, 2011

I have a content page with a grid view control in it. In the page preinit event of this page, i am trying to add a column to the grid view. But the value of the grid view shows up as null. Is there something i am missing or how do we add properties to the grid view in the page pre init of the content page.

Null - Get Control In PreInit Event?

Jul 1, 2010

How to get control in ASP.NET PreInit event? Pointers are null and FindControl method returns null.

I am using master and content pages. Markup of the content page looks like this:

<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentBody" runat="server">
<asp:Table ID="Table1" runat="server" Width="100%">
.....
</asp:Table>
</asp:Content>

And code like this:

private void Page_PreInit(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Control table = this.FindControl("Table1");
//table is null here
}

So table still is null after this.FindControl("Table1"). NamingContainer of the page is null too. What am I doing wrong?

UPDATE I have to use this event to create controls. As said in the ASP.NET Page Life Cycle Overview this event should be used for dynamic control creation. I need to create a list of links in my table. May be there is another way to do it?

Forms Data Controls :: Multiview Writing The Wrong Content But Showing The Correct Content?

Feb 26, 2010

I'm in a little bit of a bind and have some weird behavior happening with a multiview control behaving differently between two machines, and of course, the production machine is the broken one. The page renders the correct content on both machines, but if I save the html file the production machine's source is wrong.

For example, if for step 1 the output should be just the letter A, and step 2 the output should be just the letter B, and step 3 the output should be the letter C, here is what happens:

Step 1:

Production - The source and output are both the letter A

Dev - the source and output are both the letter A

Step 2:

Production - the source is the letter A and the ouput on the browser is the letter B

Dev - the source and output on the browser are both the letter B

Step 3:

Production - the source is the letter A and the ouput on the browser is the letter C

Dev - the source and output on the browser are both the letter C

Is this some issue with SessionState? I'm very new to Multiviews and by no means an ASP expert.

VS 2010 - Newly Added Controls Not Showing Up In Codebehind Page Event Dropdown

I am working on a web form using VS 2010. The controls I've added previously to this form will show in the drop down list in code behind and are available to add events too. However any new controls I've added for last week or so are not visible in the list. I cannot access their events. I have scoured the forums and tried everything I can think of, nothing works.

Master Page Menu Showing Up Behind Content

Nov 18, 2012

SO I download jqcalendar to include in my application as a starting point for a calendar (it is basically like Google calendar using JQuery/ASP.NET). I notice however when I click on a menu item on the master page, it shows up behind the content on the content page, as you can see here looking at the Maintenance menu:

I figure it has something to do with how the JQuery is rendering the page, but honestly not sure how to fix it. Here is the Jquery and HTML for the page:

Code:
<%@ Page Title="" Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/Site.master" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Calendar.aspx.vb" Inherits="Admin_Calendar" Theme="jqCalendar" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="HeadContent" Runat="Server">

Web Forms :: Accessing Master Page From Content Page - Raising Event?

Sep 10, 2010

Here is my situation: I have a user control that has a menu in it. This user control sits on my master page. It is my main navigation menu for my application. I am having an issue where, on one of my pages, users seem to be leaving the page before committing all changes to the database, which results in a loss of data. So what I want to accomplish is - if the user is leaving this page and the data has not been saved yet, I want to prompt the user and say something like "The information is not yet saved, are you sure you want to leave this page" in a modal popup. So my approach is this: In my menu user control, create an event handler called MenuClicked that is raised when the menu web control's (in the user control) MenuItemClicked is raised, I raise my custom MenuClicked event. Then on my master page, I can catch this event in NavMenu_MenuClicked. My problem is - I need to catch this event in my content page, not the master? Am I approaching this correctly?

AJAX :: PopupControlExtender DynamicServiceMethod Not Showing Any Content On Gridview Page Flip?

Mar 25, 2010

I have a 20 PopupControlExtenders for 18 columns in a GridView. Every popup is has different content: HtmlSelect, HtmlAnchor, HtmlButton CheckBox etc. etc. -depending on the cell it is clicked on.

I'm using combination of DynamicContextKey, DynamicControlID and DynamicServiceMethod to populate these popups.

The problem is, when the grid is first loaded, all popups in all columns populate correctly. Problem arises when I flip a page in the gird. On the new page, the popup comes up, but there is no content. And NO error (like 500 or something). Now when I go back to the first page, no popup shows content here either. What am I doing wrong? Here is a sample ItemTemplate:

Null Reference Exception In Authenticated Content Page?

Jul 10, 2010

I have created a masterpage where I require user login. The content pages are only displayed if the user is authenticated.

<LoggedInTemplate>
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server">
</asp:ContentPlaceHolder>
</LoggedInTemplate>

On my content page I have

<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server">
<asp:DropDownList ID="dropdown1" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList>
</asp:Content>

When run, I can successfully authenticate and then when I attempt to view this particular content page I get an error on the page load where I'm trying to populate the dropdownlist. The error I get is a Null Reference exception. I don't fully understand the page lifecycle of an asp.net page, but I also don't understand why the page compiles successfully and its only when run that I get this exception. It seems that the control is not created when the page_load command is called. How can I change the contents of a dropdownlist on page load of a content page that requires authentication?

Web Forms :: Event Handler Not Subscribed To Content Page

Jan 6, 2011

I have a master page that contains a navigational menu, made up of nested databound repeaters. Buttons are created for the outer-most repeater's items. When the user clicks on one of these buttons, the content page loads and a label within this content page changes to reflect the text from the button that was clicked. In other words - click a button, load the page, change the label on the page to the text on the button. I have tried also changing the initialization on the content page from Page_Load to Page_PreInit to Page_Init, and nothing seems to matter as I'd like to move on in this project! Code follows:

Master Page (Site.Master):

[Code]....

Content Page (BatchView.aspx):

[Code]....

The problem is, whenever a button is clicked, it changes the title of the master page to 'Not Working', which lets me know that the TeamChosen eventhandler is null!

Web Forms :: Public Event RaiseEvent Not Firing In Content Page

Mar 3, 2010

Here is the situation, I have a nested master page with set of global filters for reports. When they click the run button in the master I want the content page to process the filter and execute a general function called RunReport on the content page. Each report has its own content page with its own RunReport method. Everything I see online says to use public events with the RaiseEvent call. This was easy to code but it doesn't seem to be firing the event on the content page. How do I know, I have an error message section on the master page which I can send messages to from the content and it is displaying nothing. I also put a break point in the content page method and it never hit it. NOTE: MyPortal is a class that contains to variables call Master, which reference the main master page, and Validations which references the nested master page. The page does not throw any errors, it just refreshes like a normal button click. I have traced code to make sure it gets to the RaiseEvent call and when I tried to step into the code it skipped over the line. Here is some code for the nested master page:
