3 Stage Multiview With Dynamically Generated Controls?
Jun 22, 2010Let's say I have a booking form which is divided into 3 separate views in a multi view.
View 1: "How many people do you want to book for?" And then just a text box
View 2: "Please enter the details for each of the people" And then a series of dynamically generated text boxes - the number of boxes is determined by the value in the textbox in view 1 (e.g. if the users enters "3" into the text box, there will be 3 series of text boxes like "Details of person 1: First Name <textbox> Last Name <textbox>, Details of person 2: First Name<textbox etc..."
View 3: "Please review and confirm the details are correct:" Displays data entered in view 2.
Here's the difficult part - In order to generate the controls in view 2, I need to know the value of the text box in view 1. This value isn't available during Page_Init as viewstate has not yet been written. But - need to build the controls during Page_Innit. So - I thought why not try to grab the value of the textbox using Request.Form[Texbox1.ClientID]; - this is fine when moving from view1 to view2 but remember - I need to recreate these controls again if the user moves back to view1 or forward to view3 (it is a requirement that the user can move backwards and forwards between the views).
So - User enters value in Textbox in View1, hits the "Next button", we request that value using Request.Form and generate a series of controls dynamically. Then the user clicks "Next" again and moves to view 3 where we would like to show a summary of what they entered. But - we cant because those controls dont exist as we could not create them because the value of textbox1 is not available during Page_Init and we can't use Request.Form as the textbox isn't now part of request.form because we came from view2, not view1.
I can't figure out how to dynamically create these controls and then recreate them during page_innit on each postback so we retain any values the user might have entered.

Aug 5, 2010We deployed our legacy ASP.NET application to production after successful test deployments to our staging environment. The application makes use of RequiredFieldValidators on one particular registration page. On our development and stage environments, the validators successfully detect empty fields when "Submit" is clicked, error messages are displayed, and form submission is prevented. But on production, the validators do not display error messages. Clicking submit will cause a postback, the code-behind checks for Page.IsValid and correctly detects the form has missing fields, but the registration form is redisplayed with no error messages (ie "Please enter an email") to the user.Sample: (note I dont explicitly declare EnableClientScript or SetFocusOnError)

I am using master and content pages. Markup of the content page looks like this:

So table still is null after this.FindControl("Table1"). NamingContainer of the page is null too. What am I doing wrong?
UPDATE I have to use this event to create controls. As said in the ASP.NET Page Life Cycle Overview this event should be used for dynamic control creation. I need to create a list of links in my table. May be there is another way to do it?

Sep 14, 2010I have a custom control with a UpdatePanel inside. Depending of user action or page programing I call Update method of my UpdatePanel to refresh html portion to user.
For example, I created a property called Title. If the Title change i call Update of my UpdatePanel.

But if the Title property is configured on aspx file, my UpdatePanel is always refreshed because my Title property is setted on Init stage of page life cycle.
I need to know if this property is setted on init stage or if ViewState is restored to avoid call Update, or any tips to avoid refresh my control everytime.
Does/Will Autofacs Integration Support PreInit Or Init Events
Mar 10, 2010I see from around in the 1.4.4 source that Autofac's ASP.NET integration (via Autofac.Integration.Web) peforms injection of properties on the Page as part of the HttpContext.PreRequestHandlerExecute event handling, but that the page's child controls don't get their properties injected until Page.PreLoad.
What this means, though is that the injected properties of child controls are unavailable for use in the OnInit event handler.
For example, this works fine:

Jul 10, 2010I have converted the change password control to a template. It is inside an update panel. After changing the password the confirm button takes the user to the success step by updating the update panel. Then by clicking the OK button, I would like to reset the password changer to its initial state so that the user can change the password again. Right now I am not sure how this is done and the control simply remains at the second step, telling the user "password has been changed" . User can press OK. What must I write in the OK button click event to reset the password control to its original state?

C# - AsyncFileUpload Postback Does Not Do A Full Page Postback?
Jul 6, 2010I implemented the AsyncFileUpload control on a web page. This web page requires uploaded files to appear in a gridview. The gridview contains the following columns: "File Name", "Confidential" Check Box, and a "Remove" button to remove the uploaded file.
Since the AsyncFileUpload postback does not do a full page postback, I need to "force" a postback on the OnClientUploadComplete event of the AsyncFileUpload control in order to render the gridview after uploading a file. In the OnClientUploadCompleteevent, I use javascript to call __doPostBack. In this postback, I only bind my gridview and display the file information (I don't re-save the file).
The problem: On the AsyncFileUpload's first "partial" postback, the file is successfully uploaded, as expected. On the second postback that I force with __doPostBack, the file is re-uploaded. You can verify this by using Google Chrome, which displays the upload progress. The behaviour is as follows: After selecting the file, the progress increments from 0% to 100% and the file is uploaded. After this, the __doPostBack executes, and you can see the upload progress increment again from 0% to 100%.
How can I make sure the Gridview is properly populated, but that the file is not uploaded twice?

Apr 26, 2010I have a ascx page on load of the page I save few data in the HttpContext Session, on selection of data in the screen I reload the page with relevant data for the selection. Until here the data in the session exists. But on click of a button say ok button to navigate to next page. all the data in the session is lost. But the same works in windows 7 and windows server 2008 not in windows XP. are there any configuration difference in windows 7 and XP.

Jul 24, 2010Let me set this up:I have a master page. I have a regular aspx page - this page contains a Menu and a User Control.When I click on the Menu Item, it fires my click event. This will post back. The Master Page Uses Placeholder Controls where I dynamicaly create Label Controls with information and add them to the Placeholders. These contain data with tooltips. This works great. After the Master Page and Web Page load, it will then fire the Click Event from the Menu.The problem:The Click event will update data in the database, This data may effect the values that are created on the Master Page that are placed in the Placeholder controls. I can't seem to figure out how to change that data.
What I have tried:I have created a reference to my Master Page on my Web Page. In the Click Event after I have made changes to the Database, I call the function on the master page that Creates all the data and places them in the place holders. It Runs, but nothing changes on my page.Am I going about this wrong? Is there another way of doing this? I terrible work around, would be to just reload the whole page after I do an update.
Forms Data Controls :: Editing A Row In Gridview By Postback To Another Page?
Feb 7, 2011I ahve displayed a group of data in my gridvew with the edit option linkbutton template field for each row. The gridview columns consist of employee name and projectname and total hours field employee worked.
So in this when i click the edit button using the datakeynames alue for project name id and employee id ,i have to redirect the page to another page with the values in the grid for the particular employee.so that i can update the totalhours field in the redirected page.and if i press the update button in that page then the page should be redirected to the gridview page with the updated value for the particular employee and project. The page which should be redirected consist of project name dropdownlist, module field,date field and total hours field. No employee name field.
Using the gridview rowdatabound field i have postbacked the url page with the project name id but it does not displays the project in the redirected page.And employee name i have to redirect with the session value i think?
