My program need to detect the user visibility, if the user is login or not. I Put the information on the database
here the pseudocode:
if the user click "LOGIN" I Update the user information to ONLINE = TRUE;
else if the user click "LOGOUT" I Update the user information to ONLINE = FALSE;
My Question is: How can I detect if the user leave the website or turn off the computer without clicking "logout"
I've inherited a very large project in ASP.net, SQL 2005 and have found where some SQL connections are not closed - which is bad. Without going thru every line of code, is there a way to detect if connections are not being closed? Performance counter? as a follow up - how does SQL reclaim unclosed connections. I'm using non-pooled connectionstring.

I have a Silverlight 3 application. It accesses WCF services that run on IIS. If I let the application sit for a while with no activity, it appears that I lose my connection to the server/login authentication, and my service calls fail.
It would appear that I am being logged out for security purposes, but this is not an area that I understand well. We are using a federated STS to create an encrypted token for security.
Can someone explain what is happening (if my description is clear enought), and how can I detect this event in my Silverlight application and redirect them back to the login page.

View 1 RepliesThe web app in question provides a UI for editing a client (in the business sense, not the browser sense), identified by a ClientID. I store the ClientID in Session, which gets passed from page to page, along with a number of other pieces of data in Session. Works great.
The problem is that if the user opens a new browser window using Ctrl N or File->New Window (in IE), the new window comes up with the same page as the current page, with the same session info. Then if the user navigates to a different client in the 2nd window, the ClientID in session refers to the new client. If they go back to the original browser window and save, the original client gets saved using the 2nd ClientID, and all hell breaks loose, because now the data from the two jobs are intertwined.
I have enabled trace and verified that the new browser window uses the same SessionID as the original. If an entirely new instance of IE is opened, it has a different SessionID, so is not a problem. I have not yet investigated other browsers, such as Chrome or Firefox.
Is there any way to determine if a browser instance is opened for a web app which is already open in another window or tab? Or to prevent that from happening?
I have a small application in asp.net with c#.

I have issue about multiple login in asp.net.
Case this happen:
User X login as "user1" in web browser.
Then user Y also login as "user1" also in another web browser.
User Y got error message "Another user log in some account".
That is work as expected.
If X, close their web browser. Then try again to login in as "user1".
X get also get "Another user log in some account".
So i trying debug then i found session is remove when web browser is close, but cache still remaining in web browser.

Another strange this is that I can close the IE and open FireFox and the session is in there too. HOW IS THAT? I am thinking it is how my environment is setup. I have the sessions set for InProc and using cookies in IIS. What is different in IIS7?
Update: I am using integrated mode for my app pool. I looked at an older site I created using .net 3.5 and iis6 running on Sever2003. I can log into the site and it creates the session variable for me. I then go to FireFox and open the same site. It requires me to log in (my application will take you to your prfile if a session exists). If I then close IE and reopen IE, then go back to my site, it requires me to log in again. What is happening with iis7 and my current application, is quite odd. The only difference in how my session is pulled is that I am getting the variable while casting the current handler to the Page object: (Page)HttpContext.Current.Handler
Update: well, I think i found where the issues is and it has to do with casting the HttpContext.Current.Handler to the current page object. I have a configuration file where I wanted to put a property so all other classes could reference a central point to grab the User session object I created. The HttpContext.Current.session was always null and someone had suggested casting the HttpContext.Current.Handler. I created a simple page that checks to see if a session varaible has been created and if not it creates it. Then I print out the value. When I close the browser, the session is GONE. So, that is working. The code I had origianlly in this message was really for the back button, So I guess it is not clear why that session pulled from the Hnadler is always available until I speicifcally clear it.
I have started using an SQLState server to store my objSessionData object and many more session data.

I open two browser, log into the application, proceed in a few pages to store some information in the objSessionData for both browser (2 differrent session).If I close the first broswer, and now keep on going on the 2nd broswer, everything that was in session is now lost.It looks like Session 1 detroyed session 1 and session 2.I have tried to change the cookieless to TRUE and when it is set to TRUE, I do not get this problem at all.

You can go back to prev view via some links but the back bowser button is not integrated to that, so that if you do hit the back browser button, it logs out of the app which I don't want. I would be happy if it would redirect to the first page. I think this part is what we need. [URL] this is the startpage.xaml, at the end there is the hyperlink - so maybe here I can see if the back browser is pressed ( there is no other place in the codes that would navigate out), and if this is pressed I can redirect to a different spot? Is this a sound idea and how do I check if this back browser has been pressed?
