VS 2010 - SQLState Server Destroy All Sessions When 1 Browser Is Closed

Oct 31, 2011

I have started using an SQLState server to store my objSessionData object and many more session data.

<sessionState mode="SQLServer" sqlConnectionString="Server=**********;UID=*****; PWD=***" cookieless="false" stateNetworkTimeout="20" timeout="60" />

I open two browser, log into the application, proceed in a few pages to store some information in the objSessionData for both browser (2 differrent session).If I close the first broswer, and now keep on going on the 2nd broswer, everything that was in session is now lost.It looks like Session 1 detroyed session 1 and session 2.I have tried to change the cookieless to TRUE and when it is set to TRUE, I do not get this problem at all.

Creating New Process Which Doesn't Get Killed Even Browser Is Closed

Jul 6, 2010

I need to perform an operation such as extracting the data for past one year from DB and doing some manipulations and finally displaying the excel graphs for the extracted data. The extraction of data takes almost 6-7 hrs. What i require is that user enters the required data (date and some other details )through an asp.net page and submits it and then closes the browser. Now a process should get started which will extract all data and create the graphs and finally send an email to the particular user.

Session Variables Not Being Abandoned When Browser Window Is Closed?

Jan 20, 2011

It seemed to keep the session cookies from staying on the client after the browser was closed. Another strange this is that I can close the IE and open FireFox and the session is in there too. HOW IS THAT? I am thinking it is how my environment is setup. I have the sessions set for InProc and using cookies in IIS. What is different in IIS7?

Update: I am using integrated mode for my app pool. I looked at an older site I created using .net 3.5 and iis6 running on Sever2003. I can log into the site and it creates the session variable for me. I then go to FireFox and open the same site. It requires me to log in (my application will take you to your prfile if a session exists). If I then close IE and reopen IE, then go back to my site, it requires me to log in again. What is happening with iis7 and my current application, is quite odd. The only difference in how my session is pulled is that I am getting the variable while casting the current handler to the Page object: (Page)HttpContext.Current.Handler

Update: well, I think i found where the issues is and it has to do with casting the HttpContext.Current.Handler to the current page object. I have a configuration file where I wanted to put a property so all other classes could reference a central point to grab the User session object I created. The HttpContext.Current.session was always null and someone had suggested casting the HttpContext.Current.Handler. I created a simple page that checks to see if a session varaible has been created and if not it creates it. Then I print out the value. When I close the browser, the session is GONE. So, that is working. The code I had origianlly in this message was really for the back button, So I guess it is not clear why that session pulled from the Hnadler is always available until I speicifcally clear it.

VS 2010 Sessions Variables Getting Lost?

Jan 28, 2012

This is my page code

Code:
Protected Sub btnLogin_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles btnLogin.Click
Dim blnLogin As Boolean
blnLogin = Login(txtUserLogin.Text, txtPassword.Text)
If blnLogin = True Then

[Code] .....

So after the user presses the Login button there should be 3 variables stored in a session, this works (checked using trace='true')

Session State
Session KeyTypeValue
LoggedInSystem.String
LoggedInUserSystem.StringUser
LoggedInIDSystem.Int322

That's fine. Now I click on the AddToWall button to check if I can get the LoggedInID, it shows an empty messagebox.

In the trace there are no Sessions keys left.How can I make it keep the keys after postback/after clicking on buttons?

Note: When calling GetFriends(Session("LoggedInUser")) in the same sub as the Login button the variable does get passed to the class with sub GetFriends()

Here's my web.config

Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0" />
<sessionState timeout="30" />
</system.web>
</configuration>

How To Detect When Connection To Server Is Closed In Silverlight 3

Feb 8, 2010

I have a Silverlight 3 application. It accesses WCF services that run on IIS. If I let the application sit for a while with no activity, it appears that I lose my connection to the server/login authentication, and my service calls fail.

It would appear that I am being logged out for security purposes, but this is not an area that I understand well. We are using a federated STS to create an encrypted token for security.

Can someone explain what is happening (if my description is clear enought), and how can I detect this event in my Silverlight application and redirect them back to the login page.

Can Use SQL Server Session State With Sessions That Contain DataTables

Feb 2, 2011

I have inherited an ASP.NET 3.5 application that relies heavily on sessions and storing DataTables within them (I know - bad, bad, bad). The application pool on the remote shared hosting service indicated that memory is at full capacity and as a result customers are losing their shopping carts because of dropped sessions.

Ultimately the goal is to rewrite this code, but for the time being I would like to stabilize the site the best I can. The host has recommended I use SQL Server Session State instead of in-proc. I have no experience with this, so I'm hoping it's as simple as running the .sql against the database to configure SQL Server and updating the web.config.

C# - Underlying Connection Closed On HttpWebRequest POST On Production Server?

Nov 23, 2010

I'm getting the "The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly." error while trying to POST using the HttpWebRequest class on the production server, on my dev machine it works fine.

I originally tried using the WebClient class but I switched to the HttpWebRequest to try some of the suggestions I found while researching the issue (such as setting KeepAlive to false, PreAuthenticate true and ProtocolVersion to 1.0).

Since it's only happening on the production server, i'm guessing that it might have something to do with IIS.

Here's my code

[Code]....

If set the Target Framework (I used a new project for testing) to 2.0 (I didn't test every version of the framework) it works. I'm guessing that .net handles the security differently in .net 4.0.

SQL Server :: Invalid Attempt To Call Read When Reader Is Closed?

Jan 28, 2011

I have a function which allows me to quickly load SQL results into an SQLDataReader.

This is a very effective way for me to do this as it can be used for inserts, updates and selects very easily throughout my code.

However, I have noticed some potential memory issues with my site while using this (I keep having to do iisresets when working locally because all the pools are used up) so I am trying to use "Using" rather than "Dim" in an effort to ensure that the connection is always disposed.

I call the function in the following way:

Dim RS As SqlDataReader = SQL.Exec("sp_MyStoredProcedure " & ID)
If RS.Read Then
Return RS("Column_Name")
End If
RS.Close()

[Code].....

I now get the error "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed" when calling the function on the line "If RS.Read Then".
