Web Forms :: DropDownList Conditional Binding / How To Add The ListItem To The Control In The Code Behind
Mar 4, 2010
I have the following Dropdown List
[code]....
My problem is that some of the users that used to be in the list have left the company so we want to mark them inactive. When they are inactive they should not show up in the DDL to be selected to be assigned to. But there are existing records that they are already assigned to. If they are no longer able to be assigned their is a column called IsActive in the db that is set to 0. The Datasource filters for only == 1 when filling the datasource.
When it tries to render the control where a selected value is not in the list the Browser throws an error. I can not seem to find an event where I can intercept and set a value that is legal.
The solution I would like would be to add the listItem to the Control in the code behind then call the bind("AssignedTo") in the code behind instead of in the aspx page. This way linq would still handing the update of the DB record for the update event.
I select a item from gridView and trying to show/update/delete in From view. In Form View I am using the dropdownlist filling it in Code behind. Then i bound the list. But the problem is it is not showing the slected value. Here is the code
I am trying to bind the datasource of a ddl which is located inside the EditTemplate of a TemplateField.When is the best time to bind this datasource (after loading grid, before editing, ? (Note: I must do this in code behind).I am currently trying to bind it on the edit command:
[Code]....
The issue is that the list retrieved from the LoadLists method is null when passing to the LoadList method where the datasource is bound.
I have a sql-bound formview with three DDL's bound to individual SQL datasources. In edit mode, I want to set the selected value to the formview's value, and this works:
But it only works when there's a match between what's in the formview's DS and the DDL's DS.
Unfortunately, there may be instances where the the formview's DS may return a null value or a value different from the DDL's datasource...and when that happens I receive a compilation error like:
'ddl2' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value
What do I need to do to trap that condition before attempting to set the selected value? Do I need to set the selected value of the DDL in formview's dataBinding or dataBound event, by looping through the DDL and checking for a match first?
I am adjusting my DropDownList on my MASTERPAGE to point to resourcefiles - like this:
<asp:DropDownList runat="server" ID="Language1" AutoPostBack="true" OnSelectedIndexChanged="Language1_SelectedIndexChanged"> <asp:ListItem value="0" Text="<%$ Resources:SiteMapLocalizations, DropDownSelect1%>"></asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem Value="0" Text="<%$ Resources:SiteMapLocalizations, DropDownSelect2%>"></asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem Value="0" Text="<%$ Resources:SiteMapLocalizations, DropDownSelect3%>"></asp:ListItem> </asp:DropDownList> Problem now is that my SelectedIndexChanged has broken its funktionality in MasterPage.master.vb: Protected Sub Language1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Dim cookie As New HttpCookie("SelLang") cookie.Value = Language1.SelectedValue Response.SetCookie(cookie) Response.Redirect(Request.UrlReferrer.AbsoluteUri) this is for the redirecting to the referrer page End Sub
I have a databound dropdownlist, bound to an object datasource. I want to have a default value of "None" inserted at the top of the list and I would like to do this declaritively if possible. After much googling I came up with the below code. However it does not display my default item. I was under the impression that setting the AppendDataBoundItems to True would solve this, however it hasn't.
Now i have a dropdown combo which is manually binded to Builder Table , what i want is that it would disable all those builders in the dropdown to be selected which are residing in Project Table.
I'm working with a simple UserControl someone at my company created. It's basically just a DropDownList with a RequiredFieldValidator and some added properties (such as "Required", which controls the CSS styling of the DropDownList and whether the RequiredFieldValidator is Enabled or not).
Here is an example of the UserControl usage where a SqlDataSource is used to populate the ListItemCollection. I'm trying to specify an intial ListItem below (and would like the ability to add multilple ListItems if necessary) but can't seem to get this to work...
[Code]....
My code-behind looks as follows:
[Code]....
I've found several posts related to this but cannot seem to get the declarative ListItem to be added to the DropDownList.
I understand that using a WebControl is another option, but I'd like to learn how to get this method to work if possible.
Is it possible to add the ListItem values in the code-behind within a for loop? If so, what is it? Here is my current code:
rblContentTypesGetAll.Items.Clear(); for (int i = 0; i < dt.Rows.Count; i++) { rblContentTypesGetAll.Items.Add(dt.Rows[i]["contentType"].ToString()); }
I have a details view in asp.net which I am dynamically replacing some of the controls using code behind (e.g. converting some text boxes to dropdowns). My problem is that I am unsure how to bind these to the field from the database on postback. I.e. I am trying to find the code behind equivalent bind('currency');
I can populate the dropdown with the current value from the database but cannot find how to save a new value on updating the detailsview.
I have a repeater control with a delete button on each row. I also have a link on the same page (not within the repeater) that I only want to be visible when the repeater contains at least one row.
My problem is that, when the delete button on the final row is clicked, this triggers a postback during which the ItemCommand event is called to process the delete click. However this event is processedafter the Page Load event in which I would normally render or not render the conditional link. So I don't know at the time I'm rendering the link whether the user has just deleted the last row.
Am I misunderstanding the chain of events or is there a better way of handling this? Could I, for example, determine from the Sender & e arguments available within the Page_Load event, that the postback has been triggered by clicking the delete button in the repeater? The only other way I can see of dealing with this is to force a second postback once the final row of the repeater has been deleted which seems like overkill.

I have a dropdown list which I bind through a datasource. How can I inject a default value to it? My db doesn't have a default value and changes are not permitted!
I need to bind a dropdownlist to multiple column along with the column heading.. the heading should be unselectablesomething similar to thisEach group are in differnet tables..ow can i implement thisits consuming my time..
I have 2 dropdown lists on a WebForm. One of them is populated in the page's Page_Load event. This oneworks fine with the following code.
[Code]....
Then, after a value is selected from this list and a date is selected from a DateTime picker, then I click a button which is supposed to populate the 2nd dropdownlist. In the debugger in the button's click event I can see that the dataset is being populated with data, but then the list is never populated after the DataBind() method is run. Here is code from the button's click event.
