I have embeded a DropDownList inside a GridView and use a Selected Index event for this DropDownList.I am trying to get the index in a message box when selecting between the 2 ListItems but the messagebox does not show up. So I wonder what I could be doing wrong.The GridView consists of 5 rows where the DropDownListBox only is shown on row 1 wich has the index 0, so I am "Finding" the control there I beleive.

I'm trying to understand how to execute AJAX animation on an asp button that has to execute code on Postback. In other words, I have button with code behind that needs to be excuted, but at the same time want to be able to have one of animation extenders be applied to it. I understand that I need to use the BeginRequest Event, I'm just not sure how, or which javascript commands to use to call the ajax animation so the postback will still occur.
View 5 RepliesI am looking through a sql stored procedure which I might need to update in the near future. Basically the stored procedure is about 20 lines long. The stored procedure first builds a query
and stores it in a variable named "@Sql". And then for the last two lines of the stored procedure it appears that the big sql statement stored in "@Sql" is executed by using the "EXEC" command. See below. What is confusing though is that the query appears to be exectuted twice? Why was the query written in this way. Don't both lines do the same thing? Why is it being done twice? Could this possibly be a mistake on the
part of the person who wrote the query. Below are the two lines I am talking about?

I need to run the HttpContext.Current.Server.Execute method in my ASP.NET application. This application has a WCF operation that does some processing. Currently, I am to do my processing correctly from within my WCF operation. However, I would like to do this asynchronously.
In an error to attempt this asynchronously, I tried running Server.Execute in the DoWork event handler of a BackgroundWorker. Unfortunately, this throws an error that says
"object reference not set to an instance of an object" The HttpContext element is not null. I checked that. It is some property nested in the HttpContext object that appears to be null. However, I have not been able to identify why this won't work. It happens as soon as I move the processing to the BackgroundWorker thread.
My question is, how can I asynchronously execute the Server.Execute method?

View 2 RepliesI have a content page that displays search criteria in a div. I would like to hide the criteria div when results are returned, but keep it visible if no results are found. I have code in the DataBound event for the gridview that displays the number of rows returned from the query which works fine. To show the search criteria, I have a RegisterStartupScript which calls the javascript function to show the div. Even though the RegisterStartupScript code is executed, the javascript never runs (I put an alert in the function that never fired). Is this a lifecycle timing issue? I just don't see how I can register the javascript earlier in the page lifecycle if it is. I would think this is a very common requirement.

I am not sure how to explain this but I will give this a try. Before, we had an app running on windows XP and all the reports were working fine. Now, the app is moved to windows 2008 server. There is one report in this app that uses Microsoft Interop.Excel which is used by component one. Apparently, interop.excel is not supported in windows 2008 with 64 bit running. After doing bunch of research, we have two options - either write this report again or execute this report from XP.
I want to try the second one. The interop.excel works fine in XP. A copy of this app is on this server. What would be the best way to execute this report from windows server 2008? It looks like i would have to connect to the XP server, get access to the app and finally the function that executes the report. Is this possible?

I'm creating a HyperLink dynamically in my code behind based on a database table. What I'd like to do, is that whenever someone clicks the link, a function is executed that then does some processing before rerouting them to the linked page.
Is there a way to do this? I don't want the look of a button, even though I suppose that's the functionality I want.

i have a webpage with a calendar and the days are rendered with events from a sql database and the imagebuttons are generated programmatically. the issue i am having is that when i click on the imagebuttons, nothing happens. i have specified the imagebutton.command and the imagebutton.commandargument and eventually, i want it to load a modal popup but at the moment, for testing, i simply have it redirect me to another page.
the imagebutton commandeventhandler doesnt seem like it is firing. at the moment, it seems to be doing a postback. i also do not want the postback to happen. i simply want to show a modalpopup and databind the details view inside the popup, i know how to do all of that, i just want to know how to
what i need to do to execute the function when the imagebutton is clicked and how i can associate that function with the commandargument of the imagebutton.

I wanted to execute some code, when we press Alt+o key.I tried it by button. I took one button and set Access-Key to 'o' . And also added code I need to execute in button click event.
Now when button is visible then I can access code by Alt+o.But when I hide that button then code is not getting executed.
In short I wanted to execute some code by Alt+o key press.
I am using asp.net 2005, and my deployement server is Windows Server 2003.
I am invoking a .bat (which executes some cmd) file from my asp.net page.
But the cmd prompt not getting invoked . the application is waiting for long time in Process.Start() and after some time i am getting asp.net time out error.
Note : a. Same application is working in another production server with windows 2003
b. i have checked with giving impersonation = true - It doesnt worked
c. I have checked with gsetting identity as 'Local System' , 'Local Server'in th eApplication pool of the IIS.

But after it inserts data into table it refreshes page and on refreshing, it is calling my javascript window.onunload event
Can we Execute sql command without refreshing page???
