Web Forms :: Error Using FileUpload Control When Uploading Larger Files. The Connection Was Reset?
Oct 24, 2010
I am experiencing the following page error when trying to use the FileUpload control on my web page to upload files larger than 3MB or so. The error is as follows:"Problem loading page The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."I suspect this may be due to a timout issue. If so, how can I increase the timeout period for this control / process? I am coding in VB.NET.

I have a web site on IIS7. I can upload a maximum of 100KB, but if I try any files larger than 100K then I get a timeout error.
I have added following setting to my web.config file but I am getting the same error:
<security>
<requestFiltering>
<requestLimits maxAllowedContentLength="2000000000"></requestLimits>
</requestFiltering>
</security>
What could be wrong?

On an ASP.NET Web Application I have an upload file functionality. I'm restricting the file size up to 10 MB by configuring the inside web.config the maxAllowedContentLength attribute. (I'm using IIs 7.0 BTW).
It get the desired HTTP Error when I access the application from the local machine:
HTTP Error 404.13 - Not Found The request filtering module is configured to deny a request that exceeds the request content length.
When I access the application from another machine I get
The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
How can I get a more descriptive error when my application is accessed remotely?

I've read several questions explaining how to handle file uploads in asp.net mvc. I am trying to submit both the file as well as form fields describing it. That might be the issue. I'll go write to the code:
View code:
<% using (Html.BeginForm("CreateFile", "Video", FormMethod.Post, new { enctype = "multipart/form-data" }))
{%>
<fieldset>
<legend>Fields</legend>
<p>
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file" />
</p>
<p>
<label for="Password">Password:</label>
<%= Html.TextBox("Password")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage("Password", "*")%>
</p>
<p>
<label for="Description">Description:</label>
<%= Html.TextBox("Description")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage("Description", "*")%>
</p>
<p>
<label for="DateUploaded">DateUploaded:</label>
<%= Html.TextBox("DateUploaded")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage("DateUploaded", "*")%>
</p>
<p>
<label for="DateRecorded">DateRecorded:</label>
<%= Html.TextBox("DateRecorded")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage("DateRecorded", "*")%>
</p>
<p>
<input type="submit" value="Submit" />
</p>
</fieldset>
<% } %>
Controller code:
[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)]
public ActionResult CreateFile(VideoDTO video, HttpPostedFileBase f) //[Bind(Exclude="VideoId")]
{
foreach (string file in Request.Files)
{
HttpPostedFileBase hpf = Request.Files[file] as HttpPostedFileBase;
if (hpf.ContentLength == 0)
continue;
string savedFileName = Server.MapPath("Videos") + Path.GetFileName(hpf.FileName);
hpf.SaveAs(savedFileName);
video.FileName = hpf.FileName;
}
repository.CreateVideo(video);
return RedirectToAction("Index");
}
I've seen several examples, but haven't come across one that is trying to submit both a file and other form data. Some other things of note is other examples seem to not put a HttpVerb attribute on the action method at all and have an empty parameter string. The files I'm looking to accept will be video files of various types but they can be anywhere from 100-300 mb. The files I've attempted to use (locally) have been rather small comparatively (50 or so mb).I know it's been asked but I feel like my issue here is different somehow. When I submit the page I see:
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6 and IIS 7, and the configured application pool identity on IIS 7.5) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
i am planning to save my files in side the "

We have page that allows the users to upload documents (multiple). When the upload takes a long time - either due to the size of the files or due to slow upload speeds - we get a exception saying "Request timed out".
We found that the exception is thrown as soon as the upload is complete. So we have modified the executionTimeout config entry to 6000 secs. But this error still shows up consistently. We are running IIS6, .net 3.5 sp1 (asp .net 2.0).
Update.I'm able to reproduce this issue with relatively small files (multiple files with total of 75MB)

I had implemented FileUpload code. In which for every particular Id, it creates Folder/Directory (if not exist) on Page _load.Then inside that particular Id's folder it will upload single or multiple files.
HTML:
<asp:Label ID="LFileUpload" runat="server" Text="Upload File"></asp:Label>
<asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload1" runat="server" Width="300px" AllowMultiple="true"/>
<asp:Button ID="btnUpload" runat="server" Text="Upload" OnClick="UploadFile" ValidationGroup="none"/>
<asp:Label ID="LMsg" runat="server" Text="" Visible="false"></asp:Label>

I created an application as part of an ASP.NET site. I would like to receive error notifications in my inbox whenever something goes wrong with that flash application.
As I do not have control over our mail server (which has a different domain name), I cannot establish a cross domain policy allowing me to send error emails to my inbox.
Instead, thought I'd send a request to an ASP.NET handler that sends an email on behalf of the flash app.
Now the problem: the error report should include a screenshot of the flash application at the time the error occurred. The FileReference class however only allows file uploads with user interaction (browse dialog) and cannot be used programmatically to send the screenshot to my ASP.NET handler. The plain old POST back only allows files up to ~200K.
Am I missing something or is there no alternative to :
using POST w/ a compressed or resized screenshot or forcing the user to first save a screenshot and then select it for upload?

In a page, I have 4 fileupload controls. The filesize should be under 3mb. When submitting the form, I checked the filesize. If any of the uploaded filesize is higher than 3mb than I warn the user. Hovever, in this case, other successful file uploads are lost. So user would have to reselect intended files. I want all the files to be uploaded when all of them are validated successfully. How can I retain selected files even if there is a validation error?
