Web Forms :: Event Handler For LinkButton Is Not Called
May 26, 2010
I have LinkButton as the submit button in the web page. The problem I am facing is it is not calling servr side event handler.
The js function for 'onclientclick' is returning true but the method mapped to 'onclick' is not being called.
I tried putting alert message in onsubmit event also, that is also coming.
How to diagonise the issue? What are the possible reasons for this?

I would like to call a method and pass a value to it on a link button autogenerated from the database in a templatefield inside a datagrid. I don't know much about delegates
protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
..
((LinkButton)e.Row.Cells[(int)eMessage.TitleColumn].FindControl("btnMessageTitle")).Click += new EventHandler(delegate { viewSelectedMessage(this, 35); });
}
void viewSelectedMessage(object sender, int messageID)
{
lblTest.Text = messageID;
}
running the website and viewing the page source, I have realised that there is an OnClick event created for the linkbutton, however, this may be generated anyways. By running my solution using VS debugging, I can see that my method won't fire by clicking any of thos generated linkbuttons.

I've created a simple sample site to demonstrate the issue. In it, I have a Default.aspx Page that has a button on it:
<asp:Content ID="BodyContent" runat="server" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent">
<p><asp:Button OnClick="ButtonClick" Text="Button" runat="server" />
</p>
<asp:Label ID="output" runat="server" />
</asp:Content>
The code behind just sets the label text on the button click:
protected void ButtonClick(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
output.Text = "Button Click!!";
}
I then have an IHttpModule that gets called for every request:
[code].....
And now it's broken again! So to make a long story short, just by accessing the Form collection on the request in the IHttpModule, I somehow screw up the PostBack, and the event never gets fired.

I have a ASP.NET Website, where, in a GridView item template, automatically populated by a LinqDataSource, there is a LinkButton defined as follows:
<asp:LinkButton ID="RemoveLinkButton" runat="server" CommandName="Remove"
CommandArgument='<%# DataBinder.GetPropertyValue(GetDataItem(), "Id")%>'
OnCommand="removeVeto_OnClick"
OnClientClick='return confirm("Are you sure?");'
Text="Remove Entry" /

This is a weird issue. I have a List view with 2 Link buttons. "Edit" and "Delete" Iam able to attach an event handler for the first linkbutton(Update). Code in the event handler executed fine. But If I try to attach a event handler for the second link button(Delete) , I get an error.
My Item Template Looks like this.
[Code]....
First Item works absolutely fine. But If I attach the second handler, I get the following error
Am I missing some thing ? Note - There is no error if I try to attach the 1st event handler to the second link button.[ie EditLinkButtonClicked to DeleteLinkButtonClicked ] Issue occurs only when I try to attach DeleteLinkButtonClicked to DeleteLinkButton

Is there a technical reason for the existence of Page.PreLoad or is this just convenience to have a place where you can neatly place code that always have to be executed before the Load code? Is there a difference between adding code in the PreLoad event handler and adding code at the top of the Load event handler? And what would be a typical scenario where you use PreLoad?

When I click a linkbutton that was pragramatically added, why in Page_Load() do I need to refresh the page in order for the linkbutton event to be called?
I click linkbutton, Page_Load is called, if I refresh the entire page, then the event handler for linkbutton is called, and all is well.
I click linkbutton, Page_Load is called, if I don't refresh, then Page_Load returns, and the linkbutton handler is never called.

I have a simple ASP.NET web application for data collecting (a webform with two text fields and a Telerik editor, a button for submit with server side OnClick event listener attached).The event listener saves data on DB and then redirects to another page.Under development web server the application works fine.When published under IIS7 the event listener doesn't fire. The only way i found to make it work is to specify the action on the form tag:
<form id="form1" action="default.aspx" runat="server">
This is the first time this happens to me, i never run into this problem before with other applications (even more complex!).

I'm rewriting a Web Forms application as an exercise to learn some MVC skills.I have a number of LinkButtons on the original application which postback and raise a serverside event that rebinds data to a datagrid.
E.g.
Event handlers:
protected void lbtnOffset0_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
[code]....
What I currently have in MVC is this:
<%= Html.ActionLink("CurrentYr", "Index", 0)%>
<%= Html.ActionLink("1", "Index", 1)%>
and
public ActionResult Index()
{
return View(MietController.GetMietByYearOffset(0);
[code]...
As the ActionLink renders an tag it doesn't postback so my overloaded Index() method isn't called. What are my options for doing this in MVC?

I have an Handler.ashx file and on .aspx page load it calles the .ashx file for image reading. I am attempting to pass a session from the .aspx file to the .ashx file in order to make my query of grabing the image secure. The problem is that everytime I call a session: HttpContext.Current.Session["ID"], the value is returning null or errors saying the o so commong "Object reference not set to an instance of the object". I have tried a couple ways of grabing the session:
1.) context.Session["ID"]
2.) HttpContext.Session["ID"]
3.) HttpContext.Current.Cache["ID"]
none of them are giving me the ID session set in the .aspx page. should i be using Server.Transfer instead? is there a way to grab a session variable set in a .aspx page and called in a .ashx page?

Using vb.net/asp.net 2005.
I have a page books.aspx that has a control named authors.ascx.
Inside the authors control there is a "select" button I want to add some kind of listener or event handler (not sure of the correct terminology) so on the parent page (books.aspx) I can respond to the "select" button being clicked.
I have to pass the authorID from the user control to the parent page.
In my authors.ascx control I just created this event:
[Code]....
Now I need to write the function for SelectAuthorBtnClick and I think add some kind of listener in the parent page to listen and handle the event.

This event handler is not responding at all to the click event. On click, the pagination numbers disappear and I'm not able to trace it in the debugger because the event handle doesn't even fire so I have no idea what's going on.

In my web form, i am having button named "btnSave" and there are some textbox controls (to name few, Emp Number, Full Name, etc). I've added RegexValidator to the textbox controls as below:
<asp:RegularExpressionValidator
ID="employeeNumberValidator"
ValidationExpression="^[0-9]+$"
ControlToValidate="txtEmpNumber"
ErrorMessage="Only integers are allowed"
runat="server">
</asp:RegularExpressionValidator>
This RegexValidator will check for emp number textbox contains only integers and if not, it will display message "Only integers are allowed". Now, in my btnSave_Click(...) event, i am first validating whether the textbox contains data and if not, then i am highlighting the textbox in red. When txtEmpNumber contains non-integers data and if i click the Save button, the code in inside btnSave_Click(...) event is not getting called. But when i provide employee number in expected format and then click Save button, then the code inside button click event is getting called without any issues.
I am not sure why my btnSave_Click(...) is not functioning when Employee Number has data in incorrect format.

I have a situation in which i have a textbox which has a text_changed event. User enters the value in textbox, presses 'tab' after that text changed event gets fired it makes bit calculation, after that user clicks the button to save value in database. Problem arises if user does not press tab or click outside the textbox after filling the textbox and presses the submit button. text change event gets fired but not button click, user has to click the button again.

I have a text for user inputs Date. There is a CompareValidator which is used to compare Date between 2 TextBoxes. User do not need to input separator. After finish inputting value, he presses Tab to call a Javascript function to Format value of this Textbox.
Ex : user inputs
TextBox1 (From) : 01012010 =>Press TAB =>Value : 01/01/2010.
TextBox2 (To) : 01022010 =>Press TAB =>Value : 01/02/2010.
But Compare Validator show Error after cursor leaves the TextBox2. If I choose these values from Date Picker => No problem.
I think Compare Validator is called before onblur event. Is that right?
If it is right, is there any way to do my work?

I have a TreeView on a page which I will populate the nodes on demand and a checkbox, and they are in the same updatepanel. I can dynamically add new nodes to this treeview. But when I click the checkbox which will cause a postback, the TreeNodePopulate is called before the Page_load and it will regenerate the nodes that was added before. I was very confused how could this be happened. Is this related with PopulateOnDemand and Expanded priorities?

I have a Silverlight control on page which has a upload control. the silverlight exposes some events such as
StartUpload() => To start the file upload,
StopUpload() => To stop the file upload if running,
CheckFileStatus() => to check the status of the file upload.
The page has aspx Submit button with onclientclick event and ocClick event.
<asp:Button ID="btn_upload" Text="External Upload" runat="server" OnClientClick="Javascript:StartUpload();"
OnClick="btn_upload_Click" />
When I click on the aspx Submit Button, the file selected in Silverlight control should be uploaded and after the completion of upload, the Server side event should get called.

I have searched around but unable to find a solution that will work. I have a link button that is created dynamically during the page load. It is given an ID (obviously). There is a script manager on the page. I have the controls added to a panel in the updatepanel (updatePanel1). There is a dynamic label that is also created with each link button. I can get a response from the linkbutton click event during a postback on the second time clicking the linkbutton, but I am getting a complete postback instead of the asyncpostback for that control. During the creation of the dynamic linkbuttons, I am also creating a dynamic trigger for each button and adding it to the updatePanel1. The Click event is not firing the method without doing a complete page postback.

I just discover why some validation is working bad on some of my forms: the button click event is being called before page load.
What I need for good is (I consider this is a normal cycle of events):
The user press a buttonSome validation occurs at client side (js function returns true if success)Some validation occurs at server sideThe page loads again showing the results
But this is what I get (BAD):
The user press a buttonSome validation occurs at client side (js function returns true if success)The page loads showing no results, because server validation hasnt happened yet Some validation occurs at server sideThe page doesn´t loads again and I cant see the results, so my client cant know what happened on the server side
This is how I tried to implement this:
