Compile A Single (.aspx) Page From The Command Line?

Apr 9, 2010

I have a Perl script that calls aspnet_compiler.exe to compile a large ASP.NET website. The problem is that it takes very long to run. Is there any way to compile just a single .aspx file from the command line? (I think that would suit the needs of my script) It seems that all aspnet_compiler.exe can do is compile at a directory level.

C#: How Compile Classes In App_Code So That Can Be Run From Command Line For Unit Testing

Jul 27, 2010

I have several class files in App_Code in an ASP.net website running in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Professional.In liu of using a full unit test suite I just want to somehow compile those project-wide classses into an .EXE so that I can nightly run unit tests on them.I do know how to create a separate C# library project consisting of those files and how to include them into my website--but that is not desirable--I don't want to give up the ability to make on-the-fly code changes of those library classes when running the website in the debugger. As far as I know .Net debugger isn't powerful enough to modify code in included libraries with instant auto re-compilation on page re-load.So, I want my cake and eat it, too:
Command-line unit testing of website class files in App_Code directoryBeing able to modify those class files w/o stopping/re-starting the web debugger.

Deploying A Web Application From The Command Line?

Jun 17, 2010

Im looking to deploy a web application on a build server.

It is a very small web app and so far i have written a nice little console app that checks out from SVN and then calls msbuild on the .sln file.

This of course is not the same as publishing a web app and so far have not found a programatic way of publishing.

After msbuild has run can i simply delete all .cs and .vb files and then deploy?

or

Should i really try and find a way to publish programatically?

Visual Studio :: How To Build A Web Application Project From Command Line

Jul 7, 2010

How do I build a web application project from command line using Web Developer Express 2010?

I am using the same command format that I would use with devenv.exe (Visual Studio), so I can evaluate us moving forward to VS2010. However, I am having real trouble building our code. Our solution consists of 4-5 projects, consisting of assemblies. The last assembly is the web site code. The root .sln file is the one which when opening in the IDE can click Rebuild All, and the DLL's of each project are generated and then brought into the website project.

However, when I run vwdexpress.exe from the command line nothing happens and no Dlls are generated. This is not giving me any confidence to run with VS2010.

the command line is like so:

C:inetpubwwwrootmyprojectvwdexpress /build release mysolution.sln

The in folders of each respective project are empty, but it takes 3-4 seconds for the command to finish, which gives me the impression it did something.

AJAX :: Command Line Tool Run From The Command Line?

Mar 24, 2011

ave never used ajax.... I'm currently putting together a little web app that basically calls a program on the server itself (a command line tool) and displays the output to the web page.When the command line tool is run from the command line, it outputs status messages as it does it's thing... as it is now, my page just displays all the output when it's done. What I would like to do is show each line of output on the web page as they happen, just like when run from the command line. I'm guessing ajax is what I need... can anyone point me in the right direction for this specific scenario (user clicks button, output streams to web page as it happens without full page post backs)... a good example would be how ping.exe displays it's output on the command line

MVC :: Line Fails With An Unhandled Compile Error ?

Jul 24, 2010

I'm working through the Mvc Music store tutorial on PDF. At page 52, near the bottom, is a line that reads:

<%: Html.EditorFor(model => Model.Album, new {Artists = Model.Artists, Genres = Model.Genres})%>

This line fails with an "unhandled compile" error when I run the program and enter "storemanager/edit/388" in the address bar. I have gone over every bit of code I can find and it compares perfectly to the tutorial.

Causes Transient Aspx First Line Compile Errors?

Feb 8, 2010

Every once in a while, when I'm editing an aspx or ascx page, Visual Studio will start telling me there is an error on the first line of my file. For instance, right now, it is saying Argument missing on line 1. That line is just your typical header, with no apparent problems (to my eyes), and I hadn't even changed that one when the error started appearing.

<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="MyControl.ascx.cs"
Inherits="MyNamespace.MyControl" Debug="true" %>

Unlike most compile errors, the build still succeeds. (At least this time it did.)

It's worth noting that no other errors or warnings are thrown by this file or its as[p|c]x.cs

Sometimes, to get out of it, I am forced to undo my changes until it disappears and carefully redo what I wanted. This time, grasping at straws, I cleaned and rebuilt the solution. While I was typing this, the error disappeared, sometime after the rebuild finished.

I have a suspicion that it often happens when I tinker with the databinding in my markup. Sometimes it seems to appear if I'm missing a space inside a tag before its closing slash, like so:

[...] Text='<%# Eval("Field") %>'/>

versus:

[...] Text='<%# Eval("Field") %>' />

...But that doesn't seem to have been the problem in this case.

When coding PHP and Perl, sometimes the interpreter would throw an error referencing the very last line of the file. Over time, I learned to look for imbalanced brackets and other delimiters somewhere up above. This problem in ASP.NET feels similar, but stranger, since it's the first line, and not just something amiss above, cascading down to the bottom. Or is it just Visual Studio getting temporarily confused? Can any pros shed some light on this problem, with reasons why it happens? I'd like to have some logic (as opposed to my own built up superstition) to throw at this the next time it rears its ugly head.

Web Forms :: Executing A .bat File In Using The Command Line In C#

Aug 23, 2010

I'm trying to execute a .bat file in my web page when a user clicks a button. The normal command I would run in the command window is as follows. abc.bat 1 Where 1 is project number which is dynamically assigned according to the scenario in the program. Also the .bat file is inside the folder D:Test1. My code looks like this.....

void CreateProjectData( string strProjectId)
{
System.Diagnostics.Process newProcess = new System.Diagnostics.Process();
newProcess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
newProcess.StartInfo.FileName = @"D:Test1abc.bat" ;
newProcess.StartInfo.Arguments = "abc.bat " +strProjectId;
newProcess.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true;
newProcess.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true;
newProcess.Start();
newProcess.Close();
}

When I run the .bat file the data should be generated for project and stored in a database. When I run this in command line it works fine. But when I run the above code in the asp.net web page it executes without any errors but does not store any values in the database. Have I defined the project name, arguments correctly in the above scenario?

Web Forms :: Same Codes From Windows Application But Can't Compile The Same Way In Web Application

Jan 25, 2011

why is it that the exact same codes that i use to create a Windows application, which is able to work, does not work on a Web application? i created a windows application using c# and socket programming language. i will be connected to a remote server and through the windows application, and i will be able to send the "byte[] msg" to the server and activate the LED lightbulbs attached to the remote server. that exact same codes works well on the Windows application. however, when i create another Web application using the same exact codes, i does not have any error yet i am not able to activate the LED lightbulbs attached to it. is it that through the web or internet explorer i am not able to send the "byte[] msg" correctly? or that i sld modify "byte[] msg" to suit the web usage? or any other reasons?

Changing Web.config From Command Line

Dec 8, 2010

I have an ASP.NET application running under IIS. I'd like to be able to change one of the web.config values in Application Settings. I know it's possible to change it programmatically as described in this answer but I'm wondering if the same thing can be accomplished from the command line.

The IIS 7 Manager allows application settings and connection strings (among other options) to be changed. My hope is there is a way to do the same via the command line for IIS 6 and/or 7.
