Web Forms :: How To "link" DropDown List Ctrl And User Control

Sep 2, 2010

I have an aspx page with an user control, managing images and buttons, and a Dropdown List Control.

I would like to initialise some properties of the User control when the OnSelectedIndexChanged event handler of ASP.Net DropDownList controlis fired. In others words, when a user modifies the default index of a selected list item, the opacity of the image should change.

If your can give me some sample code or links to tutorial explaining interaction between two controls, it would be nice.

Web Forms :: Load A User Control On Link Click Event Of A Link Button During Postback Of Aspx Page?

Mar 2, 2011

Here is my requirement -

1. I need to load a user control on link click event of a link button during postback of aspx page.

2. On button click event of a save button on that aspx page, I need to read the selected values from that user control on further postback.

If I write the loadcontrol code in link_click event, the control is not recognized at all in the button_click event. When I shift it to page_init and execute only during not postback, the user control loads with default values.

Forms Data Controls :: 2 Dropdown List / "Displaying A Dropdown List Of Categories With A --None -- Option?

I am stuck at this point "Displaying a dropdown list of Categories with a --None -- Option. I want the gridview control to display 2 dropdown list one in read-only mode and the other in edit mode. Forms Data Controls :: Letting User Update Database Using Dropdown List Items?

May 26, 2010

On my website, registered users can make a profile about themselves suchas name, Favoirite color, hobbies, etcI have a DataTable called User which hold this information.also there are other datatables for Hobbies and Colors which list all possible options.To let the user update their choices I have a FormView in Edit mode on the aspx page whichis binded to the UserTable with a GetProfileByUserId Method and objectdatasource.

Within the formview, i have added drop down lists that are binded to the hobbies and Colors tables so they can edit their previous selection.On clicking Uodate update formview calls an Update Method that adds new selections to the User databaseNow I have two questionsIs it possible to show in the dropdown list the selected value that the User has already made?If the user only changes hobbies and not colors when they click update will a null value be passed into the data table for colors that replaces their previous selection?

Web Forms :: Implement Click Event On Dropdown List Control?

As soon as user selected an item, it should display some records based on the selection. Currently I am having a Submit button and user has to hit on that button to see the records. I want to remove the Submit button and wants to see the records as soon as the user choose the item in the dropdownlist

Dropdownlist is coming with default event "SelectedIndexChanged" and it is not helping me to achive what I want

This is my code that I tried so far (but zero luck)

Forms Data Controls :: Dropdown List Control In A DetailsView Template?

Nov 10, 2010

I am using a DetailsView Control and have a "MemberStatus" field.

When using the templates in edit mode, I am using a dropdownlist to change the member status.

e.g.

<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Member status:" InsertVisible="False" SortExpression="MemberStatus">
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlMemberStatus" runat="server" DataSourceID="adsMemberStatus" CssClass="eitField" DataTextField="MemberStatus"
DataValueField="MemberStatusID" Width="120px" SelectedValue='<%# Bind("MemberStatusID") %>'>

</EditItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="Label6" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("MemberStatus") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>

What I would like to achieve is, if the MemberStatus is changed during edit mode, e.g. from "Active" to "Deceased"

I would like to enable certain fields e.g. txtBoxDateDeceased, and attach a RequiredFieldValidator for the textbox field.

Forms Data Controls :: How To Re-bind A Dropdown List Control In A Formview

Oct 20, 2010

I have a formview in which I have a dropdown list that displays a list of owners. In case the list does not have the correct owner for the user I have added functionality for them to add a new owner to the database table that populates the list. I did this by including a textbox and an Insert button in a panel. When the user clicks the new owner insert button I would like to re-databind the dropdown list so that they will see the owner they added and be able to select it.

When I add ddl_owners.databind to my button click code it gives me an error. "Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control."

I don't want to re-databind the entire formview because then it deletes all the information on the form that the user has already keyed in.

Web Forms :: Navigation Using Dropdown List Control Embedded In The Master Page

I have a drop down list embedded in a menu panel in my master page. This ddl fetches it's list items from my SQL Server. They are:

1. Select a type --appended during page load

2. Green type -- fetched from SQL server via a datasource

3. Red type -- fetched from SQL server via a datasource

4. User Manual -- appended during page load

For the sake of simplicity my website has 4 pages. When the 'Select a type' list item is selected - the user should be taken to a general 'Introduction' page. When the 'Green type' - the user should be taken to a 'Green' page - and etc.

Web Forms :: Trying To Create A Custom Control That Has A Dropdown List And A Required Field Validator In It?

Jan 19, 2011

I'm trying to create a custom control that has a dropdown list and a required field validator in it.I've got as a far as being able to set the error message if the control fails to validate, but I can't actually get it to validate, not can I figure out how to call a .Validate method server side. This is driving me nuts!
To create my control, I followed the article here I ran the text box example through, and I can get that to validate without any problems, so I then went through and created a new set of class files relating to a drop down list.Anyone got any thoughts, or hints as to what might be wrong, or where I should start looking?

Web Forms :: Link Button On User Control Not Firing?

Whilst, I can see the control, and is added to the page without any visible errors, but when I click on to fire an event which on that user control nothing happens. What is even more odd, if I add a break point to event, and then click in debug mode, I can't even reach the break point!

To try and resolve this, I have tried giving the link button ids, and ensured they unique, added override using OnInit and used the createchildcontrols method, but nothing seems to work!

Web Forms :: Getting Linkbutton Text Value From Link Button In User Control?

Nov 9, 2010

i have a link button thats text value is populated from a dataset value retrieved from a database. When the user clicks on this link button I want to somehow capture the text value. The trick is the linkbutton is within a usercontrol, and I want to do the processing from the user controls parent. I am able to get the ID of the clicked linkbutton with the use of Request.Form["__EVENTTARGET"];, however i need the text value, in this case its a job number.

I may be able to do this via javascript with the OnClientClick;

OnClientClick='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"JobNo","test({0})")%>'

When I do this I get a javascript error saying "M10725"(which is my job number being clicked) is ndefined. I dont know what this means. Do I somehow have to give the linkbutton being click a value?

How To Add Onclick Attribute To Link In Reorder List Control

Feb 20, 2011

I have an AJAX Reorder List control, which is working fine. I want to add an "Edit" hyperlink to the ItemTemplate (which I have done) that opens an AJAX Modal Window when it's clicked. I need to add an OnClick attribute to call a javascript function and pass the value for the ID of the object bound to the list. I have done this before with a gridview with no problem - I just need to add code like this to RowDataBound event:
If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then
Dim HyperLink1 As HyperLink = e.Row.FindControl("HyperLink1")
HyperLink1.Attributes.Add("onclick", "ShowPopup('" & myGridControl.DataKeys(e.Row.RowIndex).Value & "')")
