My master page looks like:
<head runat="server">
<title>
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="PageTitlePlaceHolder" runat="server" />
</title>
Content pages look like:
<asp:Content ID="TitleContent1"
ContentPlaceHolderID="PageTitlePlaceHolder" runat="Server">
My Page
</asp:Content>
This works by placing the content page specific title on the page ("My Page" in this example). Now I want to add a global prefix to the title in my master page for the site name. So I want:
<head runat="server">
<title>
Example.com:
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="PageTitlePlaceHolder" runat="server" />
</title>
However, when I do this content pages are still rendered without "Example.com" in the tile, it's like it's ignored.
Why is this happening and how can I achieve this?

I have a common library and two executables. Each executable refers to the common library for some functionality. I would like the common library to read from the app.config of the exe which is currently running. Is there specific API calls to do this?

I'd like to add a typical 'Signed in as' bar, cf this site.Since it's 'common', first thought is: master page.However any controls designed on a master page are only rendered 'in' the final page...... so you need the 'this' (Page reference) to access the control... so you can't write code 'on' a master page, whose 'this' is not a Page.HttpContext has Session, Request, etc - all useful but none with a 'Page' reference that I've noticedUpdatePanel looks neat, but I'd prefer a non-Ajax solution to learn the 'basic' way before perhaps later making it 'smarter' with Ajax.Question therefore is: how to write a script that is site-wide, for a master page, that references controls on the (rendered) master page, with or without a 'Page' reference.

I have a public property that I use to store a GUID in the viewState:
Property myGUID()
As
Guid
Get
Return
CType(Me.ViewState("myGUID"),
Guid)
End
Get
Set(ByVal
value As
Guid)
Me.ViewState("myGUID")
= value
End
Set
End
Property
I include this code on many pages in my website...is there any way to migrate this to a common code file, so I don't have to repeat it on each page? If I try to add it to a class file, the "Me" part of course is out of scope.

I have a function that sends out emails when certain processes are complete. The function works great; however, in our testing lab, I want to be able to see the message that are going out and not have it actually send the messages. Since MsgBox does not work in the web environment, is there a way to open a new page/window from the common code? The page will have the message passed to it for display and I do not want to do a redirect as there are times when more than one email is going out.

My Project is a normal web site, not a Web Project, and I am using VS 2005.
I am trying to define common Master Page Type in app_code which has an area to display error messages and the like. Very simple.
I added the following in app_code:
[Code]....
Also, I added the following in Master Page Source Declaration:
[Code]....
Also, I added the controls tblrowErrMsg and lblErrMsg as server controls to the Master Page.
Why I am doing this ?
This will allow me to display error messages from nearly any where inside the code in code-behined, app_code, and other core Class Projects (DLL).

I have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?

I have a solution I'm working on in VS2010 Professional, using ASP.NET 4.0 with the AJAX Toolkit.This has been working fine, but when I started it up today, I got the runtime exception shown above. This exception occurs on any page with a control from the toolkit.Sometimes when I load a page, I get an exception "Could not load file or assembly 'System.Windows, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, ublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." If I then reload the page (without making any changes), I then get the exception shown in the subject line.I tried dragging an AJAX Toolkit control from the toolbox onto a page, and then deleting it, and that worked - once. The next time I tried the page (or any other), I got the exception again. Dragging a control out didn't help this time.

I'm building an MVC 2 RTM app, and I want to be able to share my model across applications. I'd *like* to be able to implement it like:ASP.NET MVC2 app (holds Views and Controllers)Class library to hold Model(s)WCF app to handle the data transactions with the models via different data stores across apps I had the MVC app working fine, but I wanted to abstract the data stuff and be able to work with the model across apps through the WCF site, so I created a class library project and moved all of the Models classes into that and set-up a WCF app, then added project references to the MVC and WCF apps that point at the class library. The idea was I can create services that take and return objects from the model via method calls across apps. It appears that everything's wired up correctly in the MVC project, so I'm passing the objects stored in the Models class library between controllers and views and everythig is compiling just fine, but for some reason the data is not being passed back from the views to the controller on POST -- all of the properties in the classes are null or empty.
When I debug the app, I can see that the values are stored in the model data dictionary but not the model object itself. What am I doing wrong? Am I on the wrong path, or missing something obvious (to some)?

I'm trying to dynamically change the look of my main master page depending on what nested master page that the current content page is using .
So for example.
Main master page = main.master
My nested page = nested.master (uses main.master)
content page = content.aspx (uses nested.master)
So in the Page_Load event of main.master I want to add a switch statement that will check to see what nested master page is currently being used by content.aspx, or whatever content page is loaded.
So far I have got
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string nMaster = //This is the line of code that I am looking for.
switch(master)
{
case "nested.master":
//all my logic here.
break;
}
}

I have a master page containing a tree and 3 dropdown lists. I am populating a context menu on right click of each node, and when clicked on any item of the context menu, it navigates to required pages.
My problem is after navigating to the required page, the selected values from the drop down lists and the selected node from the tree are getting cleared.
I can set the selected values for the dropdown lists by making some properties in master page.
But how do i maintain the selected node?
In my content page, i have got the valuepath of the right clicked node.
Or is there any other way than setting the properties in master page?

I am working on masterPage/sub masterpages, all worked fine until this morning.When I open a .aspx which uses masterpages, in the design view it shows the error message..
I've checked both master pages several times, all tags are matched and visual stuido itself doesn't indicate any errors. Also in debug mode the html page is generated without any problems..

My computer system froze on me, the mouse froze, cntrl-alt-del, did nothing, so I reset it. Did a disk check, and now everything seems fine except for my master Page html code which I was in the middle of editing when it happened. The VB code-behind file is still ok, the designer file still shows ok with all of the controls in it, but I can't get into desgn or source view. It just opens and gives a whole page of hesixecimal code such as as:
00000030 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00000040 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
It just gives me a whole page full of numbers like this. I haven't backed up for a few weeks and so I hope I can get this back.

I am newbie in asp.net . I want to develope a chat app by my own for my website. Registered users can chat one on one. My logic is pretty simple....
I have an string msg="";
When a user submits a textbox, textbox's text is added to msg. and then msg is displayed to both the users who are chatting. Then, next user submits his textbox , his textbox's text is also added to the msg, and then msg is displayed to both users.
My problem is this, how can I implement this in asp.net ? How to maintain a global (common) msg (string) to both the users who are chatting. Can I implement this in asp.net?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to do the following:On every page (or every page I so desire), I'd like to put a common control widget (e.g. think - Search functionality that contains a textbox+button). What's the best way to do this, and who handles the submit button (assuming it is a submit button)?i.e. what does my ViewUserControl look like? Does it have a form? does it use jQuery onclick""? Does it post to the main View's action method, or can I redirect it to another Controller/Action
