Web Forms :: How To Use A QueryString To Set A Value On Insert In A ListBox

Mar 4, 2010

I am currently attempting to set a default value on an INSERT of a ListBox to a QueryString value. I am able to do this successfully in a DetailsView, however, it doesn't seem to work for a ListBox. Here is my code:

<InsertItemTemplate>
<asp:TextBox
ID="TextBox1"
runat="server"
value='<%# Request.QueryString["Item_ID"] %>'
Text='<%# Bind("Item_ID") %>'></asp:TextBox>

The syntax is accepted, however, when in insert mode, the value is not populated.

Web Forms :: How To Insert More Than 100 Items In A ListBox

Jan 18, 2011

I'm trying to populate 1000 ListItems in a ListBox.

how to do it. Currently only 100 items are being displayed even though I set the capacity of the ListBox to 1000.

Below is sort of how my code looks like. :)

listBox.Items.Capacity = 1000;
foreach(entity ent in enitityCollection)
{
ListItem listItem = new ListItem();
listItem.Value = ent.Id.ToString();
listItem.Text = ent.Name;
listBox.Items.Add(listItem);
}
entityCollection has 989 records in it.

Code does not generate any error. only that at the end of the loop I only get 100 items mapped to my ListBox.

Is this how the ListBox is designed for?

Forms Data Controls :: Insert Multiple Items From A ListBox?

May 8, 2010

I have two ListBoxes. I can move items from one list box to the other. I have an Insertcommand for inserting added values from the "ActivePrograms" list box to a db.

my problem is that it inserts only one item when sometimes the user added multiple items.

how do I insert all existing items from "ActivePrograms" list box?:

second issue: how do I make sure the insert command go through the list of items in the listbox and makes sure these rows does mot already exsited in the db? in other words insert only NEW values for that 'Id' value

DataSource Controls :: Insert Row Using Guid From Querystring?

Apr 2, 2010

I have a page with a gridview that is populated depending upon the value of the querystring passed to it - there is a one-to-many relationship between Jobs and Locations respectively (one job can have many locations), and the gridview is a list of Locations that are associated with a particular Job. So far so good.

I have a DetailsView below whose DefaultMode is Insert to add a new location, though I can't seem to capture the JobId (guid) from the querystring. I've tried the following code on the Datasource's Inserting event:

[Code]....

but on both occasions I get the same error: Foreign Key constraint broken on JobId field. It seems that the querystring is not being passed to the datasource for inclusion in the insert.

DataSource Controls :: Double Insert Method For A QueryString?

Apr 23, 2010

I have an SQLSiteMapProvider that needs a unique URL and have not got the smarts to work out how to get the provider to do the work so for now I thought I would just add the data to the DB then edit the URL with the ID. I can't do this on the first insert as I do not know the ID as it is an auto generated Primary Key

I tried to us the PostBackURL to go to a 2nd Page that got the New ID and added it to the end of the already known URL "Page.aspx?ID=" but apparently you can't do that as I found out (This would have been a masive hack to the problem I know but it would have got around it issue of for now)

this is how I guessed it would work

Insert Data with URL "Page.aspx?ID=" and more data.... Then Get New ID and update URL to have the ID on the end ie: Page.aspx?ID=99

SQL Server :: Listbox Multiple Selections In Sql Insert Form?

Nov 11, 2010

New at SQL and ASP.NET C#, bear with me. I have a form to insert into mulitple tables of a sql db. The form includes two listbox's, categoryIDlistbox and subcategoryIDlistbox, both with the ability to select multiple choices. Idea is that there is one record for the user created (Table1) and then that user can have multiple categories and subcategories assign to him/her in Table2

Table1:
userID
fname
lname
etc...

Table2
userID
categoryID
subcategoryID

If I understand correctly I need to use an array to take the multiple listbox items and save them to the tables. Not sure where the array goes in my code behind page to process the listbox and loop for muliplte selections. Here's my current code behind, where do I place the listbox array?

Forms Data Controls :: ListBox, Array List / Update The Listbox Content?

Mar 26, 2011

I am designing a program that will let me enter the name of an item to swap and adds the swap to an array list when a button Add is pressed. Once the item is added to the array list a Sub Procedure should be called which displays the contents of the array list in a list box.

The system will also allow me to remove items from the array list using a Remove button

followed by updating array list.

I have done some part which puts item into the listbox1 which i named lstSwapList.I would need some assistance on the Sub Procedure to display the Value or Description on the other listbox2 which i have also named lstContent,if a value is selected from the listbox1.

I would also want to know how to update the Listbox content,However i hv added a sample of the way i guess it may be.

Any complete solution from anybody on the Sub Procedure and the Update Swap procedure will be greately appreciated.

The script below is what i have done so far.

Partial Class _Default
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub lstContent_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lstContent.SelectedIndexChanged
End Sub
Protected Sub lstSwapList_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lstSwapList.SelectedIndexChanged
End Sub
Protected Sub btnAddSwap_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAddSwap.Click
Dim SwapValue As String = "Sixty Pounds"
Dim Counter As Integer = 8
Dim SwapN0 As Integer
lstSwapList.Items.Add(SwapValue)
lstSwapList.Items.Add(Counter)
lstSwapList.Items.Add(New ListItem("300", "1"))
lstSwapList.Items.Add(New ListItem("ASP.Net", "2"))
lstSwapList.Items.Add(New ListItem("Programming", "3"))
SwapN0 = lstSwapList.SelectedValue
For Counter = 0 To -1
SwapN0 = lstContent.Items.Count
Next
End Sub
Protected Sub btnDeleteSwap_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDeleteSwap.Click
lstSwapList.Items.Remove(lstSwapList.SelectedValue)
End Sub
Protected Sub btnUpdateSwap_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdateSwap.Click
End Sub
End Class

=======================================
Sub UpdateSwap(ByVal valueA As String, ByVal ValueBAs String, ByVal ValueC As Integer, ByVal ValueD As Date)

Web Forms :: Adding Item To Listbox From Another Listbox Taking Way Too Long?

Mar 4, 2010

I have two list boxes, one has a list of available users (about 1500 items) and the other is blank. There is a button to add the seleted items from the first list box to the second one. Both of these listboxes are within an update panel and for some reason it takes over 20 seconds for the items to show up in the second listbox.

Is this normal? Is there an alternate, faster way of doing this?

Data Controls :: Populate DataList Based On QueryString Value Throws Error When QueryString Is NULL Or Blank

May 7, 2015

The following code works well as long as I pass a querystring value to the datalist.

Private Sub BindGrid()
Dim id As Integer = Integer.Parse(Context.Request.QueryString("id"))
Dim strConnString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("Conn").ConnectionString
Using con As New SqlConnection(strConnString)
Using cmd As New SqlCommand()
cmd.CommandText = "select Id, Name from tblFiles where Id=@Id"

[Code] ......

However, the page errors with the message "Value cannot be null." if I don't pass a value. I know that DataList does not have an EmptyItem Property like a Gridview control. I do not want the page to error if I don't pass a value. Need info to deal with empty values in a datalist.

Most websites have pointed me to this code to use:

<FooterTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="lblEmpty" Text="No Result" runat="server"
Visible='<%#boolean.parse(([b]list[/b].Items.Count=0).ToString())%>'>
</asp:Label>
</FooterTemplate>

The 'list' throws an error. The error is "Too few type arguments to 'System.COllections.Generic.List". I am not sure if the code is written in C# and that is what is causing the error. It seems that it should work but I can not figure out the 'list' error.

How could this be? Are "dangerous" query strings being stripped from the log or something?
