I'm not really much of a programmer but I've been working on something in visual web developer and VB...'ve got an asp.net page with a fileupload control and two buttons. One button is used to upload the file and then the other button does something else which involves accessing the file name of the uploaded file.
This is straight forward enough if you just use static text but I wanted to create a unique file name for the upload so thought about using a date/time value for this and delcaring it as a variable?This works great but how does the second button then access this file name? If I use the same variable name declared earlier it just generates a new one especially if mins and secs were used?
I'm not sure if that makes sense? But I'm basically wanting to create a unique file name for the uploaded file and then store that in a variable so it can be accessed by the other button? Without the variable constantly updating to a new ID?

I want to generate a unique random number everytime a user submits a form. As the form is submited the data of the form should be placed in a database and a unique random number should be generated so that the user can later use this unique random number to reterieve his details from the database that refer to his unique random id. The unique random number should be atleast 9 digits long.

I have a UserControl (basically a custom menu) that has some properties on it that I store in the view state. My pages may have multiple instances of this control, so to keep the values unique in the ViewState I concat my names with the control's UniqueId. However, when the properties are set the UniqueId does not exist yet, it returns the control's ID, in the case below, mnuFormNote. So then later when they are read it doesn't return the correct value because later the UniqueID is set so it attempts to read from a different ViewState location.
So, my question is am I doing something wrong or just missing something? If not, is there a way around this?
[Code]....
So when the page loads, and ShowEvents is set to False the property set actually does this: ViewState("mnuFormNoteShowEvents") = False. But later, when I attempt to Get the ShowEvents value it is doing this: ViewState("ctl00$ctl00$mstrContent$iepointMasterContent$dlForms$ctl00$dlStudentForms$ctl00$mnuFormNoteShowEvents"), which is nothing, so it returns the default of True. I need this value to be unique.

I have a custom control which inherit from the Table class and in the constructor, it takes a an integer as an argument. There is no empty constructor.
Is there a way for the user to set that variable in the properties window after they drag the control onto a form.
I know some .NET controls, you can set the source for the parameter to different things like another control's property, QueryString using just the properties window.
Right now, I have to create the control dynamically. I read the query string and then created the object.

List<string> Emails = new List<string>();
Then I am adding value in for each as
Emails.Add(Convert.ToString(item["E-mail Address"]));
I checked value are ading properly. Then on btn_click event I am retrieving value as
foreach (string emailid in Emails
{
Response.Write(emailid .ToString());
}
Nothing is displaying, it seems on form submit list string is initializing.

I'm creating a session variable in my .vb file and I'm able to display it in my .aspx but I can't seem to use it as a control in my asp:CompareValidator. The only way I can think to reference it on the .aspx page is with <%=Session("MyVariable") %> but
such constructs are not allowed in a validator with runat="server". But it seems like the validator must have that attribute and value.
Really what I'm trying to do is validate a user-entered number in a textbox against the one populated in that same textbox from the database. If the user replaces the textbox value with a smaller one I want to show an error message and prevent submit.

have an ObjectDataSource with the following configuration:
[Code]....
And the 'Select' parameters will aid in making a 'unique' combination per user selection to populate the GridView it is bound to:The problem that is occurring is that GridView search results are indeed cached, but the cache is a little too public and shared between all users currently running the application. So if user1 creates a search that populates the GridView with 100 results based on some unique dates and CategoryID, and then user2 in a separate browser does another search with different dates and a different category

we have an ASP.net web application running on IIS7. We have multiple users, but we don't always know their password. Here's what we'd like to be able to do:
Login as some sort of administrator, be presented with our current list of users, click some sort of "Run as John Doe user", at which point we'd be able to see the application (or certain pages) as that user.We're looking to do this in a support/debugging capacity. I've looked into ASP.net's Impersonation, but that doesn't seem to apply here.
