I came across a very interesting functionality to develop using ASP.net.there is a site wihich usually gets millions of hits everyday and I need to implement a functionality to show the name,date and time(history of users) visited the site. When the user clicks on the History button or tab then the page should display the history of 10 users recently visited the sites.

Actually, rather then putting code in each page I want some generalized method/technique that if user Logged to a website and during his Login period what was his activity and which page(s) he accesed.
Note:
1. My website pages are under MasterPage.
2. MasterPage has a MasterMenu.

i have a master page that has a an accordion and inside the accordion is a cscading dropdownlist and then a button... Basically you select the values from the dropdowns and the click the button to change the content form from default.aspx to history.aspx. This works fine the first time I do it with the exception that cascadiing ddl all reset and then if i populate again and clcik the button again I get the following error(below)... I know I can set enableEventValidation = false, but wondered why this is occuring and what effect setting it to false would have? The second part of the question would be how do I maintain the ddl values when the page changes from default to History.sapx? I am using the following for the button.

View 1 RepliesI have a website which contains several ajax enabled pages. I need to maintain state in each page. I have added historypoints in each page. My back button works fine as far as I am on single page. But when I visit different page and then click back button to come to original page, only the last history state for that page is loaded and all other seem to get wiped out. What I mean is, clicking back button again takes me to previous page instead of loading same page again from history point. Is there any way to maintain history points even when I visit different pages

Our application works fine when only one user accesses it (All insert, update works fine). But when multiple users connect to this application and try to update the database, then application get crashed. As per our knowledge, this is happening because of access database get locked, when one user open it in exclusive mode.

View 1 RepliesThere is a UserControlA which was already developed when I joined on a project. It is in a Project which I will call MyProjectWeb and it's namespace is MyProjectWeb.Common.

But to my surprise, I cannot create an instance of UserControlB in the same code file in WorkFlowManager. MyProjectWeb.Common namespace does not even contain a UserControlB. When I compile I get obviously get a The type or namespace name 'UserControlB' does not exist in the namespace 'MyProjectWeb.Common' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Why is that I can reference UserControlA but not UserControlB which are in the same namespace from the WorkFlowManager cs file? If I access the MyProjectWeb.Common namespace anywhere inside the MyProjectWeb, I can see both the user controls. Anywhere to look for errors?

View 1 RepliesI am finding it quite awkward. I have registered the user controls and they are actually being parsed as I can view the controls I have placed on them. Problem is that I cannot access them in code behing. Even when I place them, their tags are not represented in the intellisence drop down. What could be causing this? I am placing them on a page residing in a master page setting. The controls are declared on the child page.

Typically, a user would navigate to this page from another page that lists only those records that the user has access to. However, if they go directly to the page by typing in the URL in the Address Bar, they can effectively view any record they like. to type something like http://localhost/TestSite/ClientAdmin/ManageLocation.aspx?LocationID=5 into their Address Bar, they can access the database record with the LocationID equal to five - even though they shouldn't have access to it
View 2 RepliesI'm currently messing around in Access to develop a website, or I should say - develop the initial workings of a database system in an environment that I am familiar with. As the .Net environment is the one I am most familiar with for developing, deploying the Access database into the more full-fledged SQL Server environment is a natural step. Now comes the part with ASP.Net that I'm not so familiar with - reconciliating differences between how I am coding and designing my database with the default website project that ASP.Net provides for a basic multi-user website, from which I've noticed is a lot more thorough than any solution I could code up within a reasonable time-frame.
However, this comes at a cost. I have no inkling on how user data is stored within this environment or how to extend it within my own needs. I can make sample data up the wazoo on my laptop, but if I have no idea how to incorporate with a pre-existing framework, it is worthless to me. The reason why I have not considered this until now is the data I have been working on doesn't pertain to the users in a direct fashion. Anyone have experience designing websites that use ASP.Net and maintain user access? What problems, issues, and design considerations might I need to concern myself when developing a multi-user website with ASP.Net in addition to my data?

View 2 RepliesI have a page showing user records in GridView. Users can do paging, sorting, filtering all on the page. All records inside GridView have typical edit and delete buttons. When user click Edit button I load complete record on the next page which user can edit and save. When user save record how can I send user back to the GridView page displaying the same record which user has editing. I means if I simply use Response.Redirect and send user back the page with GridView load again with first page of the grid and user can't see the same record which user has edited after moving forward few pages in the GridView.
Also when user save record on the editing page. Why user need to press browser back button twice to go back to GridView page? I think if I can create a link or button on the editing page which can send user two pages back by playing with browser history or javascript my problem can solve.
I have ONE <asp:Button ID="btnAddUC" runat="server" ......./> and ONE <asp:Table ID="tblUC" runat="server"...> on my page. User clicks on btnAddUC, user control is added to the page [user can add 'n' user controls to the page]. here I have no problem, adding user controls to the page on user clicks.
My user control has ONE <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlItems" runat="server" ......./> and ONE <asp:CheckBoxList ID="chkItems" runat="server"..../>. I am exposing "ddlItems" by public method, "chkItems" is not exposed. "chkItems" is binded on SelectedIndexChanged event of "ddlItems".
Execution scenario:
User adds user control to the page, select item from the "ddlItems" ( Note: "ddlItems" is exposed by public property ) , "chkItems" is populated ( using ddlItems.SelectedItem.Value ) . User checks some checkboxes in "chkItems" and then decide to add one more user control. When the second user control is added to the page, checkboxes in the first usercontrol lose their state and apeears unchecked (NOTE: user checked some checkboxes and then added another user control).
I want to put checked beckboxes index in session ( Before another control is added, which event I should use, because at LOAD event there is nothing).
I was able to restict SelectedIndexChanged event to only that user control whcih generated it (checking _EVENTTARGET)
how can i do this? At the moment a user's session is lost whenever they close the browser, but sites like facebook have a 'keep me logged in' option. How does this work exactly and are there any well known ways to do this in .net? i understand part of the way it works is that they store the username in a cookie.
