On a membership website that every user has an acount how to give a user place or page in the way below: assume that website is [URL] then we have a user with acount Jimmy now I want to have a link like : [URL] that gives general information about jimmy to other users. one solution is to make a sub directory on root named jimmy and have an index.aspx file in that. it is space consuming and I do not want to do it. Is there any other briliant solution for this problem that for example I can use just one page and take jimmy as query string or something like that to show jimmy's information?

In my app. I redirect user from one domain to another and I need to preserve the session object while redirecting between domains.
I need to be able to read session key/value that is created under different domain, for example -
While in domain A.com:
create session variable - session("myASPString") = "Test string"
redirecting to domain B.com
While in domain B.com:
dim k as string = session("myASPString")
right now k = Nothing...
How can I preserve the session object between different domains ?

When a user logs in, they are redireced to files within members folder. When a user happens to log in and gets redireced, there is the chance they will retype the default page address and go to the homepage, which is accessable to everyone. The issue is, the log in status control shows "Logout". how do I check if a user accesses the homepage, if they are logged in and if they are send them elsewhere. I've tried different codes, but not getting the result. Here is one code I tried...

I upgraded my site from asp to asp.net.This means that all of my previous asp files became obsolete.I don't want to lose my Google Ranking of the old pages.
What is the proper way to redirect?I tried to catch all of the old asp pages is my 404 and then to:

We would like to redirect a user to a different page based on his or her credentials.
In other words, if a user's credentials are authenticated, a user is presented with a dropdown list belonging to his/her group to select from.
So far, it doesn't matter what the user's credentials are, the user is not getting redirected.

i had aspx page control for transferring the application datas to another web page. k when i click the transfer button. the Current page will be inactive. and the User only once time they can transfer the page otherwise disabled.

I am working on an internal application... i setup IIS 7 to use windows authentication since its behind the firewall and on the domain.. there is a "public" side.. and an "internal" side... if your not part of IT.. you should get the public side.. this is just informational.. my problem is that there is 1 or two pcs that are not on the domain and nobody is logged into them.. how can i just redirect anonymous users to another site?
everything i read says you can't use anonymous AND windows auth.. so my thought was to just redirect the anonymous users to another site.. how can you do that?

I've been able to create a cool little website, it's up and running with users logging in and out, I created roles so my administrative team can see sensitive data that's not available to regular and anonymous users.
Now they would like me to create a page specific to each user. For instance when user A logs in they are redirected to a page that has information that pertains to user A only (like a list of their benefits/ their remaining vacation time). This page needs to be accessible only to user A.

we have two identical websites. One located at apac.ourdomain.com and the other at eu.ourdomain.com. The only differences about these websites are one is hosted in Australia, and the other is in London. The databases they backed onto have identical schema, except one is in Australia, and the other is in London, each storing data related to our partners in the region.
What we want to do is implement some form of centralise landing page @ www.ourdomain.com using forms authentication. Once a partner logs on to www.ourdomain.com, we will redirect them to either the apac or the eu server. My challenge is how do I transfer the user credentials from the landing site to the regional site? By Credentials, I mean everything from their username to their roles / permissions. And once a user is redirected to the regional site, how do i get them back to the landing site should they required to modify their details?
I know I will need to have a centralised user details db for the landing site, but it is the communication to and from the regional site afterward that I'm uncertain about.

This code works perfectly fine , depending on the ishyperlink flag in the database...specific cells in the grid are made clickable and then redirected to page2.aspx My Issue: I need to capture which specific cell in which specific grid the user has clicked. store some information in sessions based on the cell clicked and use that information in page2.aspx.

I've inherited a bunch of code that has server script inside of .htm files.
On IIS, a handler mapping pumps.Htm pages though the asp.net engine.
Unfortunately, visual studio doesn't notice that they should be treated as code.
Is there any way to make VS treat .Htm files as code/aspx files?

How do I allow users to upload files to a subFolder under the root web folder?
1. Display a list of filenames of file type (.doc, .txt, .pdf) on one webpage(ListOfFiles.aspx).
2. Make those filenames hyperlinks so that when clicked on, the file is displayed in the browser.
3. Have another page(Admin.aspx) that allows the user to upload and delete those files residing in that subFolder.

I am making a database with SQL server 2008 express edition and trying to make a GUID for new users signing up. I have the UserID field as a NVARCHAR(36) with a default value of NEWID() but all it keeps providing are all 0's for all 36 characters. How do I fix it where it provides a true GUID with all random letters/number?

I am wondering are there any standard mechanisms available to protect the asp.net asp code in the client browser ? I found some references to windows script encoders. Question is,are these script encoders encodes both aspx and code behind source ? If aspx is encoded with the windows script encoders then how client browsers can decode it? Are they aware of the encoding algorithms ?Or can we control the client browsers ( IE, Firefox, Chrome etc) to disable the view source option in the Tasks Menu when web site a loaded in them?

The user will register some basic information, including the comment itself that is the issue of this question.Inside the comment field, the user can write some text, but there are currently nothing stopping him from writing anything harmful there, that would mess up the page when rendering it with comments

I've been reading about asp web administration tool. I read about creating roles and stuff and forcing a controller to use authentication in order to be viewed. My question is, say create on the administration tool a user called Peter and I assign him the Administrator role. Then I want to create another role called LimitedAdministrator. But I want Peter to create new users on his View (I'm using MVC). Can anyone point me in the direction of how to do this.
I want peter to see on his page, like "Create user" and this user will be created as a LimitedAdministrator.

Example scenario in an ASP.NET application using SQL Server membership provider :
1) a user can't remember their exact password, and tries many times in a short space of time to login with an invalid password (say 5 times in a 10 minute window). This locks out the user (i.e. sets the IsLockedOut flag of the aspnet_Membership table to 1).
2) user goes to the "forgot my password" screen to try to get a new password emailed to them. This screen uses the PasswordRecovery control. User enters their correct user id, but then cannot go further in the password recovery process, since the IsLockedOut flag is 1. (They don't even get to see their security question).
3) The user would then have to phone tech support to get themselves unlocked etc.
To reduce the burden on support staff, we are trying to reduce the times step 3 is required, by making the PasswordRecovery control (if possible), work with locked out users. i.e. when they enter their login ID, the security question comes up, and IF they enter the correct answer, the system will unlock the user, and email the new temporary password to them. I'm wondering if it is possible to tweak the PasswordRecovery control to do this.
