Web Forms :: Missing System.Web.UI.Page Base.OnInit?
Feb 24, 2011
A client of mine developed a base page for their site from System.Web.UI.Page. Unfotunately in the OnInit override they forgot to call base.OnInit().Every page in the web site inherits from this base page class. So this requires them to test their complete site again to release the fix. This is a time consuming process to do a full regression test. Looking for insight into how urgent they should be to release this obvious fix. My opinion is this is a serious issue.Web search didn't really lead me to actually what goes wrong in the base Page class when this is done. I realize default event delegate won't get initialized.I know it is bad, but how bad?Looking into insight of what issues it can cause? How will this cause havoc with the ASP.NET web controls?Will controls down rev to emitting HTML and/or javascript for older browsers by default?
I am new in asp .net.I am not able to undestand why we call base class method when we override methods/events.Like automatically visual studio will put base.OnInit() if you are overriding OnInit.
I have an ASP.net control that contains a grid (protected member variable). Grid is populated from a function in the control. I have derived a new user control from this control without any control in it. I added additional functionality to populate grid and called base class function to do further operation on the grid. When I run my code, I get the null reference exception on grid object in the base control. I missing something in control inheritance? at what point do inner controls get created?
it is really annoying that I am keep getting these error. what is that. we started to get this afte we updatet the net framawork for security vulnaribility. here is the error we keep getting. but not everytime;
System.FormatException: Invalid length for a Base-64 char array.

System.Web.HttpException: The state information is invalid for this page and might be corrupted. ---> System.Web.UI.ViewStateException: Invalid viewstate.
First off, I am wondering if this is possible. I read slight grumblings around the internet about this, but I was not entirely sure.
My scenario: I have a base chart class which has some methods which all charts should have.
public partial class BaseChart : System.Web.UI.UserControl { public BaseChart() { } public void ToggleLegend() { Chart1.Legends[0].Enabled = !Chart1.Legends[0].Enabled; } }
There is also some mark-up for this BaseChart -- setting background colors, etc. All charts which inherit BaseChart should use this starting mark-up and be able to build upon it.
I would then like to do this:
public partial class HistoricalLineChart : BaseChart { public HistoricalLineChart() : base() {
In above code I am having a Session["panelOpen"] variable which is created from another user control and once my page is trying to render, I am storing Session["panelOpen"] in my hidden lblPanelOpen.Text on page OnInit() method, however when page is loaded completely then I am trying to remove the session variable.
I was having a discussion with a co worker about some controls I implemented. He objected to my use of dynamicly instantiating controls in the code behind, because it will be slower than specifying the control in the markup. I thought he was talking about output cacheing which to my understanding only caches the rendered output of a page not the instantiated Page object. He said no its a different type of caching. Unfortunately he was unable to give me any documentation to backup the claim so I am wondering if anyone here has ever hear of any such type of caching, and if so is there any documentation on it that I can refer to.
AjaxControlToolkit.ToolKitScriptManager.OnInit() throws thread abort exception for every aspx page. I have an asp.net 2.0 Ajax application, where I have set the following properties of ToolScriptManager on my pages.
I have this configuration on all the aspx pages in my application. When I checked the .NET CLR exception Performance counter I figured out a large number of exceptions, mainly one exception per page load is occuring. On running windbg I was noticed that
AjaxControlToolkit.ToolKitScriptManager.OnInit() has the following code block which is getting executed. The OutputCombinedScriptFile() returns true. But since I am setting my controls on DesignTime still designmode is set to false for toolkitscriptmanager.
if (!DesignMode && (null != Context) && OutputCombinedScriptFile(Context)) { // This was a combined script request that was satisfied; end all processing now Page.Response.End(); }
I am not sure if this is a reported bug or even a bug with ajax, but this is causing havoc in my load test results as I have around 3 hundred thousand HTTP requests to be handled per day out of which 80% are aspx page requests resulting in a large number of threadafbortexceptions, thus affecting the performance.
Error parsing attribute 'something': Type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage' does not have a public property named 'something'.
Notice how it tries to use System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage rather than my BaseViewPage class. To make it more interesting, if I remove the "Something" attribute from the Page directive and put some code in the generic version of BaseViewPage (OnInit for example) the class is actually called / used / instantiated.
So, am I doing something wrong or is this a limitation.
Recently, I tried to get my Web Service class to inherit from a custom base class that inherits from System.Web.Services.WebMethod instead of the System.Web.Services.WebMethod directly.
However, I've been getting Error 500.
Public Class Service1 Inherits BaseClass <System.Web.Services.WebMethod()> _ Public Function GetSessionID() As String GetSessionID = Me.Session.SessionID End Function End Class
public class BaseClass Inherits System.Web.Services.WebService public property Property1 as string public property Property2 as string
I m having little misunderstanding that how basepage inheritance work in asp.net. I saw this example [URL] and others and I just have questions to get better understanding on the articles: Do we always need override type function in base page even if we dont want to overwrite in child page. What is the purpose of "MyBase.OnLoad(e)"?
' -- VB.NET Public Class MyBaseClass Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Overrides Sub OnLoad(ByVal e As EventArgs) '... add custom logic here ... 'Be sure to call the base class's OnLoad method! MyBase.OnLoad(e) End Sub End Class
I have a custom basepage and a master page in my web application. In my master page, there are events that I run from each page in my web application. Instead of putting the code in each of my pages, I decided to create a base page that each web page will inherit from. Trouble is, I cannot get the base page to invoke the events on the master page.
I have the below structure. Admin_note --> AdminBasePage --> System.Web.UI.Page.But Page_Load does not call in AdminBasePage when calling page_load in Admin_note class.Do you know how to solve??
I have a base class called BasePage, and a master page called SiteMaster. All my content pages inherit BasePage using BasePage instead of System.Web.UI.Page. Now, I need to access some functions in BasePage from my master page SiteMaster, let's say, the function is called "DisplayClientName()". How can I do it? Searched the Web, have found tons of similar questions but not solid solutions.
I have to implement User base security in my Web project using .Net3.5. Followings are some we need:
Roles can be Admin, Manage, Editor, Member etc User can have multiple roles Every roles has its own dynamic menus and restrictions/resources All menus and interface will populate dynamically from Database
I heard some where this kind of i.e user base security can be implemented using HashTable but I dont know how is it?
Today I came to know that for this kind of work Java people use Interceptor Design patterns. So, how could I do the same in asp.net C#?
I installed a few days ago VS2010 Ultimate (RTM). I made sure that MVC 2 Tools for VS2010 are installed and indeed when I open the add a new project dialog I find the MVC 2 templates. The strange thing is that when I add a class library project and then want to add reference to System.Web.Mvc assembly I find that this assembly isn't in the list. I made sure that the project's target is .NET 4 (and not client profile).
Eventually I solved it by browsing to the assembly under MVC2's folder in Program Files. I don't think that's the best way to solve it, but I don't see another solution. It seems like everything is properly installed and for some reason the MVC2 assembly isn't in that long reference list in C:Program FilesReference AssembliesMicrosoftFramework.NETFrameworkv4.0.
I am feeling that I have terribly wrong somewhere. I was working on a small asp.net app. I have some dynamic themes in the heme folder and have implemented a page base class to load the master page on the fly. The master is having the ContentPlaceHolder like: <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="cphBody" runat="server" />
Now I am adding pages that are derived from my base class and added the form elements. I know, Visual Studio has problem showing the page in the design mode. I have a dropdown box and wish to add the event of onselectedindexchange. But it is not working. the page is like this:
I am attempting to access a textbox control on a master page from a code behind base class but having problems. I have 3 levels of master pages. m1.master is the master page for m2.master which is the master page for m3.master.m3.master has a textbox as shown below
I am using built-in asp.net Role and membership provider in my website. when user login to my system they are redirected to hompage. how should i code it. that when he click on login button page check its role and then decide where to redirect. Suppose user login with name John and "john" is "Admin" then application Redirect him to AdminPanel.aspx and if User john is normal "RegUser" Role then redirect him into Home.aspx.
I have create a list of public properties in our custom page. However, when I want to assign the property on any aspx file, it does not show in intellisense and when I use it it said it is a invalid attribute of element "Page".So, 2 question.How do I make it such that it shows up in intellisense?Can I set any localize variable as a value of the property in the page directive?here is the property on my base page:
