C# - How To Implement User Base Security Not Role Base

Apr 26, 2010

I have to implement User base security in my Web project using .Net3.5. Followings are some we need:

Roles can be Admin, Manage, Editor, Member etc User can have multiple roles Every roles has its own dynamic menus and restrictions/resources All menus and interface will populate dynamically from Database

I heard some where this kind of i.e user base security can be implemented using HashTable but I dont know how is it?

Today I came to know that for this kind of work Java people use Interceptor Design patterns. So, how could I do the same in asp.net C#?

C# - SQL Role Security + Custom .Net Base Page?

Feb 8, 2010

I'm workng on a new, green-field ASP.Net application. We're implementing a base page which all pages will be, er, based on. The application will be running under Integrate Windows Auth, so I'll have the user's account details. With these, I'll be going to several databases (in which the user will exist) to find out what roles they are assigned to in each db. I'll be holding the role yay/nay in a bool array, and key into it via an enum.

There will be a session object that will hold a few things, and the roles assigned for that user. I'm thinking of making the session object available as a property of the base page, as the code would be something like this:

public SessionObject MasterSessionObject
{
get
{[CODE]....

But, I'm sure you'll agree, it looks sucky...If there was a CheckSecurity method on the base page, it would have to take a concrete DatabaseRoles object, but also an enum of which role to check, which would also look sucky. And finally, there would be a requirement at a later date to add more databases and their security settings...

I'll add code tomorrow if required... :-s

I dunno, I'm not that thick, but I do have a hard time sometimes binding all this together...

Security :: Role Base Security Using Scriptin Not In Database?

Mar 22, 2011

I want to implement role base access security on a script instead of database .

Using asp.net 2008

Considering various different user roles in scripting- role base access on same page. not in the database Different user should be able to see only particular information on the page, which is assign to him. This should be done on the bases of scripting not in the database.In short administrators and users contains should be on one page and they should be distinguish according to the role of administrator and user on same page.

Need to put validation and verification on the scripting page, not from the database.

My CLIENT REQUIREMENT IS :-

Defination of project

The goal of this project is to extend role-based access from data to scripts. The users are classified into different roles. A script will display different information according to the role of the user.

The main aim behind implementing this project is, as nowadays people try to access the code and try to break into the secure codes via cookies as well as link information along with domain names. So in order to prevent this if the role base access security is kept on a script instead of database then it might be possibly less chance of breaking this kind of security.

In making this kind of functionality we need to deal security of webpage with the help of script. So the whole idea is to identify the user and separate contains which are only accessible to the specific user. In order to research and implement this project, we need to have core understanding and knowledge of the scripting fundamental and how exactly the scripting is working on webpage.

So looking towards this project we are planning to deal with somehow role base access in scripting.

Nowadays you might have seen security has become a larger issue, moreover providing security on website is one of the major concerned in today's life. As the network of wired and wireless network has extended in very large volume, you can see unsecure internet access in many place and in this unsecure there might be possibility of hacking becomes very easy.

So in order to make this security tight or in order to make website more secure we are planning to build this project.

Call Always Base Class Method Like Base.OnInit()?

Jun 29, 2010

I am new in asp .net.I am not able to undestand why we call base class method when we
override methods/events.Like automatically visual studio will put base.OnInit() if you are overriding OnInit.

protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e)
{
base.OnInit(e);
}

same is the case of Finalize. In derived we call base.Finalize() Is there any need of calling these base class methods ?

Load A Base Aspx Page To Display To The User?

Jan 28, 2011

I have an asp.net project, and I load a base aspx page to display to the user. Then I ajax in the results of an ascx component and inject it via innerHTML in javascript. I have noticed that the ascx component loads slowly on the first page load, but instantly thereafter. This is really cool, but I do not understand how this can be cached, as the contents are generated by making several db calls. Does the server send some kind of hash to compare the contents to, to see if it changed on the server or not? Is this a browser thing or an asp.net thing?

.net - Subscribing To An Event Defined In The Base User Control?

Apr 4, 2011

I have a base user control (inherited from System.Web.UI.UserControl)

public delegate void MyEventHandler(object sender, MyEventArgs e);
public event MyEventHandler ControlLoaded;
//Fire the event from here
protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e)
{
MyEventArgs cmdEventArgs = new MyEventArgs("somearg");
ControlLoaded(this, cmdEventArgs);
}

I have several controls that are derived from this base user control.

On the host ASPX page, I need to subscribe to the ControlLoaded event.

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//subscribe to the event
//This line DOES NOT WORK as I cannot attach event to a base control - It needs an instance of the user control which I don't have
BaseUserControl.ControlLoaded += new MyEventHandler(ControlLoaded);
}
private void ControlLoaded(object sender, MyEventArgs e)
{
// some control has been loaded
}

How do I subscribe to the ControlLoaded event?

How Does The Child User Control Inherit The Markup From The Base Class

May 25, 2010

I have a user control (uc1) which inherits from uc2. uc2 has a user control (uc3) declared in the markup. I am trying to access uc3 from uc1 but I get NullReferenceException. I thought due to inheritance uc3 would instantiate but looks like I am missing a step.

Clarification:

How does the child user control inherit the markup from the base class? The server controls in the base user control are null in the code behind of the base user control. Why?

UserControl Inheritance - Web Controls In Base User Control Are Null Pointer

Mar 1, 2010

i have a base user control (WC1) which inherits from WebUserControl and a child user control (WC2) which inherits from WC1. I added a textBox and a label to WC1 in vs design view not code behind. But all the server controls that i put in WC1 are null and give null pointer exception.I tried to access textBox and label in different events but the all of them are null.

Steps to reproduce the error:

create a web user control called WC1 by add a new item in VS added a textBox and label server control to WC1 in design view of VS and put code behind: var value = txetBox.Text; created another web user control called WC2 by add a new item in VS and change its base class to WC1 in its code behind create a web page by adding a new item in vs and drag WC2 to the design view of the page run the page then you will see the exception for the codebehind in WC1

[code]....

page:

<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="WC2.ascx.cs" Inherits="WebApplication1.WC2" %>

can web server controls of WC1 be instantiated in this case? or can user control inherit from another user control and web server controls of parent user control be carried to its children without worring the layout?

How To Make User Control Partial Classes Aware Of Controls Declared In The Base Class

Mar 5, 2010

Do we have to do something special to have ASP.NET partial classes aware of controls that are declared in our user control's base classes? The partial classes keep generating declarations for controls in the base class which mean the controls in the base class get hidden and are null.

Server Controls In User Control Are Null When User Control Serves As A Base User Control ?

Jun 4, 2010

I don't think I understand fully how ASP.NET does inheritance of controls.I have a user control, ucBase, which has an asp.net label in the ascx file. Code behind references the label and it works fine during run time if the control is not a parent for another user parent.

If I have another user control, ucChild, inheriting from ucBase, the label in ucBase's code is always null. ucChild has no controls in its ascx fileThe server controls (like the label) needs to be declared in the ascx file and not created programmatically.What needs to be done for ucBase to see its own controls when it's a parent user control?

C# - Extending The Base Class?

Mar 5, 2010

When you create a webpage in ASP.net, the codebase inherits System.Web.UI.Page

Now when I extend the page object to check for SessionExpired for example, I create a new class and inherit from system.web.ui.page, and overwrite some functions.

The problem then is that on each page, I have to replace system.web.ui.page with my custompage class.

Is there a way to extend a class by adding methods or modifying its methods directly (e.g. add the sessionExpired check to System.Web.UI.Page) ?

I'm using .NET 2.0

Security :: Enable User To Edit / Delete Based On User's Role Permission

Feb 24, 2011

I'm trying to allow logged user who are in department XYZ to perform some task for my third party App. I have two SQL tables named Users & UserList. The third party app (GoldMine) graps the USERNAME from the Users table and store it as UserID which I then referecnce SessionID. The UserList table has two columns (GM_UserName & Department) which I'm interested in. When a user login into the 3rd party app (GoldMine), i then compare the USERNAME (from Users table) to GM_UserName (from UserList table) and see whether GM_UserName is in = 'Dept XYZ'. Take a look at the SQL query below.

sqlDept = "SELECT USERNAME FROM Users LEFT JOIN UserList ON UserList.GM_UserName=Users.UserName WHERE UserList.Department ='Dept XYZ'"

I'm able to do this.

If Session("Userid") = "TestUser1" Or Session("UserID") = "TestUser2" Then Do this Else Do that End If
BUT unable to do this...
If user's Department = 'Department XYZ' Then
Do This
Else
Do that
End IF

Add A Custom Base Class For Web Forms?

Jan 12, 2010

I want to add a custom base class for all of my web forms. I created a "App_code" folder in my asp.net web project and add a simple base page class like this:

namespace MySite.Web
{
// base page for all the pages that need localization
public class LocalizationPage : System.Web.UI.Page
{
protected override void InitializeCulture()
{
base.InitializeCulture();
}
}
}

And then I try to let asp.net web form to inherit from this base page. I have something like this:

using MySite.Web;

namespace MySite.Public
{
public partial class RegisterPage : LocalizationPage
{
}
}

Now I run into problem where Visual Studio doesn't recognize the LocalizationPage class I created. On the above code snippet, LocalizationPage is not highlighted as a class. And when I try to compile, I got the following error message:

Error 1 The type or namespace name 'LocalizationPage' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
