I have 2 sessions I need to populate a formview textbox value on Insert, session1 is set on pageload, session2 is set after a button has been clicked.
The button is outside of formview.
I have:

How would I go about populating a textbox within a FormView with the SelectedValue of a GridView? I'd like to know how to do this with the GridView on the same page as the FormView or a GridView passing a parameter from another page.
View 2 RepliesI am using a textbox and button to get the user input (account number), this will be used as input to a data access class object (SQL) when the button is clicked. This action should populate the Formview control. I have bound the Formview control to the SQLdatasource and configured the SQLdatasource control to the textbox.TEXT property. What am I missing? What do I need to add to button_clicked event to get all this to work? One other thing, the textbox is in a table area separate from the formview control. I have each of the templates inside of the formview control in tables. The input textbox and button are displayed but the formview control is not, all of this is in a master/detail object.

I am trying to retrieve multiple values from the session variable in which I stored the values as List. Here's the code I applied but this gives me only the lst value from the list in the output.

i have the following scenario: one formview. when in editmode there is a child formview linked to the other by a column value. i need to take the value of one of the values of parent formview controls and set it to a textbox of child formview in insert mode. I wish to know which event should I use in codebehind to bind both controls? (that escenario will have paging and must keep the binding as if it was master detail)
View 9 RepliesI have a number of controls on a form i.e date pickers text boxes and dropdownlists. Firstly i need to set up some validation rules on the search button click event so if one control is populated then another needs to be and others shouldn't be etc etc
Then based on the values i need to return a dataset to the gridview showing all the records where the criteria meets all the values. I just wondered the best way to do this... i.e should i use validators to test for the rules(they may be too complex though). Should I just create a string and pass it as filter to the full dataset or use a stored proc and pass the string as the where criteria? This would mean a dyanmic proc so I'm not sure if there are any benefits as it won't cache on the server .
I've been spending two days on this. My page formview is in a tab container and I need it to update, insert and display data. Insert and display are ok as long as the default mode is Insert. The problem here is edit mode, it's able to get values from the db(oracle) and display them in edit mode, but when I click save, any values I typed out on the textboxes do not get captured. When I call on my db update class, it just sends old db values. Here is the process: formview shows data selected from gridview, then an update button is clicked to edit the data. there is also a SAVE button to send updated data to db. Example: description textbox = "test", then I type out a different value, and in debug mode, the textbox.text still shows "test" after clicking save.

I'm working in a web application and my page is using a databound formview control. When i first enter the page via my code, I am unable to retreive a value from any of my controls -e.g. when i debug, i see that tbDate.text has no value (see code below). How can I retreive the values from the controls on my page e.g text boxes?

i have two text boxes and one button in web form. I need to display the contents of text boxes in a datatable in the same form, when i click on the button.
How can i do this using session array. I need to store values in session array. and get back the values from session when i need .
I have a web app I'm creating and a form that has a formview control on it. The form's default is set to insert and when the user enters data and clicks save, the data gets saved to the database; only problem is that the form then clears all the data out of the controls.
Upon saving after updating or inserting, I'd like to set the form mode to edit and also have it retain the values they input into the form. I've tried a few things and have not had any luck.

What mode does the formview control have by default after it executes the ItemInserted method? Also, what is the prper way to do this?
let's say I have a page with a form on it where a user clicks Submit. This page checks the input fields when the user presses that button. If the fields contain mistakes, the appropriate fields' labels are turned red. That much is easy. Let's say if it's right, I want to POST that form to an external page written in another language. I cannot use any .NET conventions for transferring data, so it must be POST values. The postback attribute would seem to be for this, but I need the forwarding to be conditional. Eg: They're only posted to the external page IF my button handler determines that the values are good.
View 1 RepliesIm trying to populate my formview from a dataview in the codebehind and the order in which things are happening is causing it to fail.my formview itemtemplate is setup with some eval("fields") which is initially not populated (nothing bound to it) and the page loads ok. i think click on my graph which generates a query and populates a dataview.i then assign that dataview to the formview and run the bind.what happens when i actually run the app is that it says no data is bound to it.i set the debugged to stop at the point where my DV is assigned to my FV and the FV shows a data item count of 1 (as expected) if i keep stepping it puts me in to the eval statements on the aspx page says the data isnt bound.
the error i get is

I have a ddl inside the formview that I can't figure out how to wire up properly. The formview contains detail info, but the ddl needs to list the entire set to items. Then I want the ddl's selected value be set from the recordset intended for the formview. I think it's just a timeing issue s I would like your help. Thanks, - EJM.

I have a dropDownlist in a Formview Edit and Insert Template that is Bound to a Field, It is for a credit card expiration date, so I want to programatically populate it so it will automatically show the next 8 years from this year. Works fine!
Except When I add it to the Formview, and click on edit it gives me an error basically saying my record does not match the list item data, but it should since it shows the year just fine. So I am figuring that it is not binding the ListItems to the dropdownlist.
I have tried every event I could try and I always get the same error. I have tried the ModeChanged, DataBound, DataBiding, PreRender, Load on both the Formview and the DropDownList, but no go. How do I do this?

This works fin on a DropDownList that is not in a FormView, so I know its not the Code. and the record I am updating is 2010, so the record is not out of range
I have been trying for a while to populate a formview when I select an item from the dropdownlist. The dropdownlist is outside of the formview. For some reason, when I select a different item it does not change in the formview. Only the first item of the list shows up. I don't know where I'm doing wrong. I tried many things and suggested informatioin and I still could not get it to work. When I do try to switch I get this error message:

I have a drop-down list that is wired up to a datasource from one table to retrieve a Vendor ID and Vendor Name. This ddl is outside a FormView that is wired up to a datasource containing Vendor contracts.
When I choose a Vendor from the ddl, I am able to populate a textbox outside of FormView with the Vendor ID from the ddl. However, what I need to do is populate a textbox within FormView with the Vendor ID. FormView is in Insert Mode by default since my page will be used for Adding Contracts only.
I have no problem when paging my FormView, the dropdownlist does not read the next record and keep the value of the first loaded record? All other textbox control behave normally and move from record to record excepted the ddl??Here the code.

I am inserting 4 fields into a table trought an SqlDataSource and a FormView element. These fields are ID (autopopulated), date(selected from calendar and/or todays date as default), Company name(user input), and UserID (taken from LoginName?).
I am able to inser the data in to the table when typing it, but I would like to have the UserID fiel auto completed and the date as well, or filled with the selected calendar date.

I have an email contact form that I have successfully populated the account users Username and email address into text boxes
I also use a text box and session variables to send parameters to a stored procedure and return a single row result in a form view.
The thing I am having an incredibly hard time figuring out is how to populate a single textbox with the data from any of those fields. or the whole control as a single summary.
Just for starters I am actually an IT Manager and NOT a coder so this is entirely a hack job if there ever was one...

I have a gridview that had a field called "GenericNameHepDrug" within the row. It's not the key field. I have an insert button that opens a formview in insertmode. How can I get the selected value of generichepdrug into the formview that opens when the button is clicked? I am using VB.NET 2.0.

CLearly I am lost. I have been working with ASP.NET VB for 2 months. I'm in over my head with figuring this one out - I've been at it for days.
I have a ASP.NET website which uses forms authentication. The timeout is twenty minutes.
I have noticed that if a user half completes a form, and is then timed out, they are redirected to the login page, fill it in, and are redirected back to the form but with EMPTY controls.
I had prevously assumed that ASP.NET would use some skulduggery to repopulate the form controls when this happens.
I have a typical gridview/formview master control setup. When I try to update or insert I don't get any errors but it also doesn't work. When I try to insert data all I get are null values and when I update, none of the values are updated. The formview looks like its working, but just doesn't. The primary key is an identity and it auto-increments by one.
