How would I go about populating a textbox within a FormView with the SelectedValue of a GridView? I'd like to know how to do this with the GridView on the same page as the FormView or a GridView passing a parameter from another page.

I am using a textbox and button to get the user input (account number), this will be used as input to a data access class object (SQL) when the button is clicked. This action should populate the Formview control. I have bound the Formview control to the SQLdatasource and configured the SQLdatasource control to the textbox.TEXT property. What am I missing? What do I need to add to button_clicked event to get all this to work? One other thing, the textbox is in a table area separate from the formview control. I have each of the templates inside of the formview control in tables. The input textbox and button are displayed but the formview control is not, all of this is in a master/detail object.

I'm populating a dropdownlist in a formview with a different datasource from the formview's. I need to set the selected value according to the value in the formview's datasource but I'm having a hard time doing that.

I'm using a FormView which has odsMain as the datasource. I am also using a dropdownlist which is being populated with objectdatasource odsddl.
I'd like to set the selectedvalue of the dropdownlist with the value contained in odsMain (the current record value for it). Is there any way this can be done?

I have a page that has a formview on it. Client info, name, address, usual stuff. The formview is populated by a DataSource, that calls a SQL stored procedure for the client info. It all works great.Within the formview, I have a dropdownlist for the Staff assigned to the client (StaffId is a member of the Client record called during the Formview binding). When the formview is in Item mode, the Staff name appears in a label, when in Edit mode, the dropdownlist
is bound and populated by another DataSource that calls a stored procedure of ActiveStaff. When the assigned staff exists, the StaffId is correctly bound to the DDL SelectedValue and the current staff name appears selected in the DDL when in edit mode, as it should.
Im trying to populate my formview from a dataview in the codebehind and the order in which things are happening is causing it to fail.my formview itemtemplate is setup with some eval("fields") which is initially not populated (nothing bound to it) and the page loads ok. i think click on my graph which generates a query and populates a dataview.i then assign that dataview to the formview and run the bind.what happens when i actually run the app is that it says no data is bound to it.i set the debugged to stop at the point where my DV is assigned to my FV and the FV shows a data item count of 1 (as expected) if i keep stepping it puts me in to the eval statements on the aspx page says the data isnt bound.
the error i get is
Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.

I have a ddl inside the formview that I can't figure out how to wire up properly. The formview contains detail info, but the ddl needs to list the entire set to items. Then I want the ddl's selected value be set from the recordset intended for the formview. I think it's just a timeing issue s I would like your help. Thanks, - EJM.

I have a dropDownlist in a Formview Edit and Insert Template that is Bound to a Field, It is for a credit card expiration date, so I want to programatically populate it so it will automatically show the next 8 years from this year. Works fine!
Except When I add it to the Formview, and click on edit it gives me an error basically saying my record does not match the list item data, but it should since it shows the year just fine. So I am figuring that it is not binding the ListItems to the dropdownlist.
I have tried every event I could try and I always get the same error. I have tried the ModeChanged, DataBound, DataBiding, PreRender, Load on both the Formview and the DropDownList, but no go. How do I do this?

This works fin on a DropDownList that is not in a FormView, so I know its not the Code. and the record I am updating is 2010, so the record is not out of range
I have been trying for a while to populate a formview when I select an item from the dropdownlist. The dropdownlist is outside of the formview. For some reason, when I select a different item it does not change in the formview. Only the first item of the list shows up. I don't know where I'm doing wrong. I tried many things and suggested informatioin and I still could not get it to work. When I do try to switch I get this error message:

I have a dropdownlist in DetailsView to which items are added programmatically during DataBound event. It is working fine in InsertItemTemplate, but in EditItemTemplate i am getting this error "'branchDDL' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value".

I have a drop-down list that is wired up to a datasource from one table to retrieve a Vendor ID and Vendor Name. This ddl is outside a FormView that is wired up to a datasource containing Vendor contracts.
When I choose a Vendor from the ddl, I am able to populate a textbox outside of FormView with the Vendor ID from the ddl. However, what I need to do is populate a textbox within FormView with the Vendor ID. FormView is in Insert Mode by default since my page will be used for Adding Contracts only.
I have no problem when paging my FormView, the dropdownlist does not read the next record and keep the value of the first loaded record? All other textbox control behave normally and move from record to record excepted the ddl??Here the code.

I am inserting 4 fields into a table trought an SqlDataSource and a FormView element. These fields are ID (autopopulated), date(selected from calendar and/or todays date as default), Company name(user input), and UserID (taken from LoginName?).
I am able to inser the data in to the table when typing it, but I would like to have the UserID fiel auto completed and the date as well, or filled with the selected calendar date.

I have an email contact form that I have successfully populated the account users Username and email address into text boxes
I also use a text box and session variables to send parameters to a stored procedure and return a single row result in a form view.
The thing I am having an incredibly hard time figuring out is how to populate a single textbox with the data from any of those fields. or the whole control as a single summary.
Just for starters I am actually an IT Manager and NOT a coder so this is entirely a hack job if there ever was one...

i have the following scenario: one formview. when in editmode there is a child formview linked to the other by a column value. i need to take the value of one of the values of parent formview controls and set it to a textbox of child formview in insert mode. I wish to know which event should I use in codebehind to bind both controls? (that escenario will have paging and must keep the binding as if it was master detail)
View 9 RepliesI've got a dropdownlist control that the user can select an an employee name and that should then fill in the detailsview control with specific information about that employee.
My dropdownlist control works fine and I do have AutoPostBack set to true. For some reason my detailsview doesn't work. There's no error message. The detailsview control just doesn't show up.

I am using a form view control which has two binded textbox. Now at this level it works fine and the textboxes show the values from database. But when i insert a panel inside the form view and move these two textboxes inside the panel, they dont show any values. What could be the reason for this?
View 2 RepliesI am attempting to show/hide a control (txtInpatientType) when a user views individual records on a FormView (frmData) depending on the value stored in another control (txtPatientType). For example, if txtPatientType.Text = "Inpatient" then txtInpatientType.Visible needs to be True. Very simple code follows.

txtPatietType and txtInpatientType are both ReadOnly. txtInpatientType.Visible = false by default.
I have a formview with an insert item template. I have added two dropdown controls that are databound to two different database tables to this insert template. However, when I click the 'InsertQuery' for the Accessdatasource neither of these controls are available as 'Parameter source options'.Out of interest, if I take these dropdown controls out of the formview and put them on the page they then become available to use.

Underneath the FormView is a GridView that shows all data from the SelectedDate on the calendar control. However, when the date is selected, all the information from the table ( from all dates ) is displayed.

I use a GridView control to select the row to display within the FormView. The FormView contains a RadioButtonList to facilitate the selection of one of its values. My C# codebehind contains a "selected_index changed event to grab the values from any of the modified FormView controls. My problem is that it is not picking up the selected radio button.
