Dec 24, 2010I have a form in asp.net mvc that retrieves records from the database. this form have dropdowns. in Edit action of controller it is must to have selected the already inserted items. suppose if i am taking the User information for edit, then its City,State and country must be selected as they inserted before.
So i tried in Edit:

ViewData["Cites"] = new SelectList(City.GetAllCities(), "CityId", CityName", CityId_);
same like country and state. but though CityId_ have value but it no appear like that. It defaults from first city (same for all) why this because ?
i just gone throught this blog where i found , the assigning third parameter name should be in the object's property. but let say I have primary and Fk relationship, but columns name are different then it seems MVC strongly coupled feature fail. Why this is ?

Sep 9, 2010My scenario is i have 4 tabs, under every tab there are five cascadded combo. So for page load itself it calling webservice at last and populate all parent cascaded dropdowns in all the four tabs.
now I have made changes but still now its not working. By defeault [ScriptMethod(UseHttpGet = false)], so i made it [ScriptMethod(UseHttpGet = true)]. now on tab change i added that function and it is calling the web methods when changing the tab. But after the loading its again call the webservice and this time as the get is true so its not getting any value. And in the dropdown its showing "error 12030".

This causes "selected value does not exist" errors. So I force a databind, and add a new element if it does not exist in the data source.
However it looks like when the databind is performed later in the page lifecycle that my added element(s) are removed/overwritten.
Am I setting the values in the wrong part of the life cycle?

Mar 26, 2010In my web form, i have 2 drop downlist controls. eg. dropdown1 and dropdown2. I will change the dropdownlist1 item, consequently selectedindexchanged event fires and reloads the dropdownlist2 items. And i have another button also in order to get the result based on the dropdown1 and dropdown2. Lets say for example, i have a list of countries in dropdown1 and a list of states in dropdown2. I selected "India" in dropdown1 and correspondingly "Tamilnadu" in dropdown2. And then click a button which calls the dataset based on dropdown1 and dropdown2. The problem i face here is, whenever i click on the button to load the dataset, dropdown1 value remains the same as the dataset is not called again, whereas the dropdown2 value changes to the first one as it gets called automatically during postback. For your information, I have loaded both the lists in the page load using (!IsPostback) property.

AJAX :: Cascading Dropdown Not Refreshing After Added A New Value?
Mar 10, 2010So I have a two dropdownlists which use a cascadingdropdown extender. The dropdownlists get their values from an XML file I created. Everything has been working fine, but when I tried to add a few new values to the XML file, they won't show up on the page. They show fine in the test environment when I debug the page in Visual Web Developer, but the pages don't seem to be updating. Everything else seems to be working fine; I've since made changes to other elements of my application and the changes went through fine. What could be the caus eof this? I tried copying all the information from the old XML file and creating a new one, creating a new XMLDataSource and using that as the new data source for the dropdownlists. Nothing seems to be working. What could I be doing wrong here?

May 26, 2010i've run into small problem, here's the thing: i've got a dropdown list (ddlist1) that i am populating from a database, that works fine. However, depending on the option selected here, i need to populate another dropdown list (ddlist2). for example, if on ddlist1 i select option 1, on ddlist 2 i should get a list of options related to option 1 from ddlist1. If i select option 2, on ddlist 2 i should get a list of options related to option 2 from ddlist 1. and so forth. this information with which ddlist needs to be filled, comed from another database. o how can i go about this? m not sure yet how to code the second ddlist.

Jul 22, 2010I have 2 drop downlists 1 gets the User hits my sql database and pulls back all my users in the database. I have post back on. The second drop down brings back all the account numbers for the user that is selected in the first drop downlist I have that post back on also.
My gridview then uses those 2 dropdownlists to populate for that user and that account number selected.
Now for the problem.
User Albert is in the drop down when page is loaded because its sorts by name the first account number for albert is in the 2nd drop down and the gridview works on page load for albert and account number 1 i can select account number 2 and the gridview changes.
I then switch user to Bill and it populates the 2nd drop down with Bill's account numbers however my gridview at this point is still showing alberts account information. I have to take drop down 2 and select another account say account 2 then my gridview displays bill's account 2 information i can then switch back to account 1 for bill and see that account information.
What do I need to do so that my gridview will populate when the first dropdown is changed to match the 2 new values?

the dropdown list control will populate values from the database but when i live those 2, it won't populate any value from the database. When i remove only the
<asp:QueryStringParameter Name="CategoryID" QueryStringField="ID" />
</SelectParameters>
and live ([UserId] = @UserId), i get the error : Must declare the scalar variable "@UserId".
