Web Forms :: RequiredFieldValidator Created In External Object Is Null?

Apr 24, 2010

I have a registration form. Settings of this form, like which fields are required I get via webservice. So I need programatically validate this form. I decided to create variable count of requiered field validators in Submit click. The validator is created in external object that holds a field settings.

[Code]....

I tried to debug it and GetValidator() created RequiredFieldValidator, but in btnSubmitRegistration_Click after that, validator was null. Object lost it's reference. Where is the problem?

Web Forms :: Dynamically Created RequiredFieldValidator Are Always Validating True?

Jan 20, 2010

I'm creating several textboxes and dropdown controls. Some have a related RequiredFieldValidator control. The RequiredFieldValidator is created as follows:

[Code]....

This method is called from the following section of code which inserts rows into a table. Insert location is marked with a PlaceHolder control (ID="tblInsertRow").

[Code]....

When the user clicks the "Save" button, I force a validation of all validators as follows:

[Code]....

The problem I'm having is that Page.IsValid is always "true". I read some older posting that stated that you cannot use RequiredFieldValidator with AJAX, but I don't believe that's true anymore since I've done it before with static controls. This is the 1st time I'm trying to do this with controls created at runtime. These controls are created in a User Control that is displayed on a Page with a Master Page.

C# - Is A New Object That's Created In A Static Property Getter Only Created Once

Jan 11, 2010

I'm creating a static helper class for web services I'm writing. I'm tapping into the API of Telligent and therefore creating these Telligent "service" objects that allow me to do things with the platform. For example, I'm creating a MembershipSerice object in my helper class so I can do membership stuff with the same object. In my helper class I have a property with a getter that creates a new one of these objects:

private static MembershipService _MembershipService {
get return new MembershipService(path, usr, pwd);

Sequence Doesn't Change Created RequiredFieldValidator Again In Sequence

Dec 24, 2010

In my ASP.Net application, I am using ajax accordian control on my aspx page and vb.net for code behind pages.

I have used validation summary for page validation.

1st accordian Pane contains following fields:

First Name
Last Name etc.

2nd accordian Pane contain following fields:

Address
City
Country etc.

while validating the page It displays error messages in following sequence:

Address cannot be blank
City cannot be blank
Country.....
First Name....
Last Name....

But I want to display error messages in following order:

First Name cannot be blank
Last Name....
Address cannot be blank
City cannot be blank
Country.....

I tried to resolve it by giving tabIndex to textboxes and RequiredFieldValidator, but sequence doesn't change I created RequiredFieldValidator again in sequence, but it doesn't affect.

C# - Object Reference Error Even When Object Is Not Null?

May 27, 2010

i have an application wherein i have incorporate a "Remember Me" feature for the login screen. I do this by creating a cookie when the user logs in for the first time, so next time when the user visits the site i get the cookie and load the user information.

i have written the code for loading user information in a common class in the App_Code folder...and all my pages inherit from this class.

code for loading the user info is as follows:

public static void LoadUserDetails(string emailId)
{
UsersEnt currentUser = UsersBL.LoadUserInfo(emailId);
if (currentUser != null)
HttpContext.Current.Session["CurrentUser"] = currentUser;
}

Now the problem is i get an "Object reference" error when i try to store the currentUser object in the session variable (even though the currentUser object is not null). However the password property in the currentUser object is null.

Web Forms :: Dynamically Created Asp Textbox Object Not Recognized?

I want to dynamically create asp textbox objects (as well as other types) with id's named sequentially up to a number the user decides but I'm having a problem getting my code behind to recognize these dynamically created objects. In "div1" below I manually create the objects and I have no problem getting the values in Sub cmdSaveDiv1Info_Click. My dynamically created code generated in Page_Load routine is identical to that in "div1" except for the textbox ID's yet when I try to retrieve the values the same way in cmdSaveDiv2Info_Click I get an "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error on the "Dim d2Year as String.." line.

Web Forms :: Class Object Becomes NULL After PostBack

I have a asp.net page titled EstMaterials.aspx with a gridview that fills from a SQL table based on a parameter passed to it.  The code for calling the form is below.

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="upAddMaterials" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

Check For A Null Object Reference When Validating Forms In MVC?

May 28, 2010

I'm experimenting with validating forms in the asp.net MVC framework. I'm focusing on server side validation for the time being. I've come across an error that I'm not sure how to rectify. System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. The code that throws the error is:

[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)]
public ActionResult Create([Bind(Exclude="ID")] MembersCreate mc )
{
mc.Modules = ModuleListDataContext.GetModuleList();
ViewData.Model = mc;
//Validation using ModelState
//
//
//line below errors when form field is empty
//
if ((string)mc.Member.Username.Trim() == "")
ModelState.AddModelError("Member.Username", "Username is required.");
if (!ModelState.IsValid)
return View();
try
{
// TODO: Add insert logic here
return RedirectToAction("Index","Home");
}
catch
{
return View();
}
}

When I put spaces in the field it performs exactly as i want, but if I leave the field blank and press submit I get the error. What's the best way to avoid this error and still validate blank form fields?

ADO.NET :: Getting An ID For A Newly-created Object?

DateID -- identity integer column, primary key
StartDate -- DateTime column
EndDate -- another DateTime column.

Let's say I add new data as follows: [Code]....

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that once the EF.SaveChanges() executes, a new entry is created, and a new DateID is generated.I need to get that new DateID.

MVC :: Object Ref Not Set Error On Created Instance?

Nov 27, 2010

First time I do it this way, so probably something simple I don't know about. Think the following code explain the "issue" better than I could.

[Code]....

Basically, if I leave out the _logService instantiation in Application_Error, I get an object reference not set error.However it work fine in Application_End.While I'm at it (know I should start a seperate thread). Any good article to log application errors in Application_Error? (I want to keep the logger out of "catch" blocks" in my classes.) the following does not work out so well for me (Server.LastError are always null):

Probably how MVC's Handle error attribute deal with things...lemme google on.

Using Select Distinct On An Already Created DataTable Object?

Nov 16, 2010

I have an already created DataTable object which i am using for my girdview (asp.net) i also need to bind a column of that object to a DropDownList. The datatable has the correct details in the column but the column contains more that 1 of the same name in the column - hence I would love to just do some kind of SELECT DISTINCT on the datatable and copy it to a new datatable for use with binding the dropdown.

This would allow me to save resources by making another trip to the database.

Here is an example, the current datatable has a column called items and in this column has the following entries

1
1
1
1
5
5
6

And of course i need only unique items for binding to my dropdown, hence i need the following data

1
5
6

Of course i don't want to change the original datatable object but rather make a copy of it will the new details.

C# - Access To An Object Created In Page From A Class?

Jan 18, 2010

I have a page, Default.aspx, with its own code-behind file like this:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.UI;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page
{
public int[] anArray;
}

What I'd like to do is access to "anArray" from a C# class (not tied to a page) declared in App_Code folder. What can I do?

Edit: As said in the first comment, I really apreciate your about refactoring my connection objects. However, what I'm really doing here is to rewrite an old PHP application in order to get comfortable with basic C# and ASP.NET, so this code will never go really live. So, I'm still intersted in a way (if any) to access an object declared in a code-behind code from a standard C# class.

Edit2: I removed the OdbcConnection object in order to focus to the real problem: how to refer to an object istantiated in a code-behind file from a C# class situated in App_Code?

var txtExpireYear = document.getElementById("ctl00_phPageContent_dtmPassportExpirationDate_txtYear");
txtExpireYear.AjaxControlToolkitTextBoxWrapper.set_Value(dtmDateOfExpire.getFullYear());

I now get the error:

Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'AjaxControlToolkitTextBoxWrapper' is null or not an object

Executing this:

txtExpireYear.innerText="value1"
txtExpireYear.value="value2"

results in the watermark text being changed, not the textbox's text.
