Web Forms :: Saving User's Response For Several Pages?
Jan 16, 2010
I have a default.aspx page, it contains a checkboxlist and button (Button1). There are other items too but not significant for this question.
The user selects an item in the checkbox list. Based on which item is selected, in my button click code, I take the user to another page (Page2, for example). In that page I have TextBoxes, where user fills some numeric values. On this page (Page2) I have another button (Button2). In the Button2 Click code, I want to use logic, where I need to know what was checked in my checkboxlist in previous page. How can I do that. I get the error
Error 17 The name 'CheckBoxList1' does not exist in the current context
On default page Button click I have like this..
[Code].....
1. How can I recall what was checked in default page checkboxlist?
2. Secondlay, the values user enters in this page (page2) in TextBoxs, I would need to use them in later pages, how can I use them in later pages. TextBoxs have unique IDs.

I've got a form with a button on it. You have to be logged in to see this form. I use this code to check if the user is logged in and act appropriatley.
Dim isLoggedIn As Boolean = CType(Session("LoggedIn"), Boolean)
If isLoggedIn = False Then
Response.Redirect("Login.aspx")
End If
The button runs a report that takes anywhere from 0.5 to 20 seconds. For testing it just sleeps for 10 seconds.
Threading.Thread.Sleep(10000)
The problem is this. Say User1 comes to the form, logs in and runs the report. If User2 comes to the form, the page will not load until User1's report is done.
Now, the bonus is if I comment out the response.redirect line, everything works fine. But if that line is in there I will get this problem.

I had to discuss a bit of conceptual problem here. The scenario is like this: A user comes on my my website and creates a new profile. As the new profile is created, I tend to save the result in tow tables in datbase viz.1. profiles 2. profiles_plugins The 'id' in profiles table is self-generated and hence there is no problem in storing the data it in the profiles table But at the same time, this self-generated id in table 1 has to be stored in table 2 (profiles_plugins) in the column profile_id.Data reader cannot fetch the value from table while it is being generated. So, basically the problem is how to fetch this self generated id from table1 to be saved in table 2 at the same time when the user submits his details.

I have a website that acts as a common user details site for a few other websites. I pass a sersname to it and it gets the profile using
[Code]....
that part works fine. Now to commit the changes I use the above code to get the profilecommon for the user and then use oProfile.Save() to finish. This saves all the user data to my profile..doesn't matter which profile I use, it always gets saved to mine.

I am a newbie of asp.net.
The environment is .net 3.5 and C#.
There are files stored in sql server (datatype of column is varbinary in the database).
each record is in one record in that table (FILE_TABLE).
And there is another table (PATH_TABLE) to store the files paths.
for example,
when the user download the folder A (select an item on the tree and click a button on the client side),
there is one sub-folder B and two files A-1 and A-2.
in folder B, there is two files B-1 and B-2.
then, at the code behind (server), the server will get the files from the database and convert them (including the files and subfolders) to a .zip file (or other compressed files)
and then write a response (using the method HttpResponse.BinaryWrite(Byte[] xxx) )
to client side and let the user download.
after the download, the user can extract the compressed file and the structure of the folders and files keep unchanged.

I have to choose between Server.transfer and Response.redirect for an Intranet application for navigation. I have chosen Server.Transfer as of now because it avoid extra round trip to server and which will help when so many users will be accessing the application. (I believe this is the main difference between reponse.redirect and server.transfer). But the problem is now that URL won't change on Server.Transfer(I don't want to implement Http headerS, as I am afraid it will take time to implement that).on redirection, I want to do something like taking benefit of server.redirect(in avoiding server processing, which happens in response.redirect) and changing the URL(as it happens in reponse.redirect).Can anyone please suggest a quick solution to it or may be help me Telling How many users can reponse.redirect can support ?

So I'm making a asp.net login. I want the login name that people use to match an id in my SQL database. So that I can retrieve their information. But currently when I use the code below, from which I get the name of the computer I am currently on. However I would like the user Identity to be what they write in the username textbox at the login screen.
If HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated Then
Dim userName As String = HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name
Response.Write(userName)
End If
So I looked for it on net and I think it might have something to do with my web.config file. As I'm totally new to asp.net I wouldn't know. However here's a part of my Web.config file.
[Code]....

I want to display a menu (which will be strongly typed with it's own unique model) across all pages only if a user is logged in.What menu items are available depend on the user's role and also I'll need to hit the repository to get numbers like "x Messages", etc
Been scratching my head for a simple solution here. Don't want to create something that need changes all over the place. All my controllers derive from a BaseController, all my Models from BaseViewModel....probably where I'll be implementing functionality for this.

How woulld I set this up:
I wanna save what links a user clicks on in a website. I thought of creating a jquery function that would save the link name everytime a link is clicked , then ajax the info to the db after the user closes the site.
Does that sound like a proper way. Anyone have samples of that?
Since there are multiple pages with multpile links, I wanna create something equivalient to a Session variable in javascript so I can append info to it everytime a user clicks a link and send the info only once to the db, instead of everytime a user clicks a link open a db connection and send the info.
The links are products so I wanna save related products, so I wanna save related product infomation. Maybe I need a cookie instead?

I am trying to load two pages in two different windows (at the same time). I have three pages in my application
1) Login.aspx
2) TakeOrder.aspx
3) OrderSummary.aspx
When application is executed, user is presented with Login.aspx page. If the user is authenticated, I want TakeOrder.aspx and OrderSummary.aspx to load in two different windows.
TakeOrder.aspx is used to take orders and OrderSummary.aspx shows the summary of the orders which have been placed since morning.
I can put a button on TakeOrder.aspx to redirect to OrderSummary.aspx (but such logic is not allowed by the client).
Also when the user takes an order (I will add the order to th database), I want to refresh ( do postback) OrderSummary.aspx to show newly placed order for e.g.
OrderSummary.aspx is showing "n" orders, now the user takes an order "x", I want OrderSuammyry.aspx page to show "n+1" orders (including order "x")

I've been using this programming style, that I've seen in an example and just started using it, because it does the job... I would like to know other programmers' opinion about it...
So the situation is when you have a GridView, or a control based on it like the RadGrid, and you want to keep track of a data table while you are adding, editing, reordering and deleting rows.
Using the session to hold the data table (or list of data) may not be the best solution, because the user may open two identical web pages... Using the ViewState to hold the data may be and option... I have been using an approach like the following:
[code]....
So using a static List variable, of a custom object (class), declared in the code-behind of the Aspx page, and updating it whenever the data is edited.

I have a windows application that stores a file on the current user's isolated storage, lets call this user Adam. On the same machine I have a Web service (The Web Service's application pool is running with Adam's credentials) that uses the same dll to access the file on the isolated storage but it is trying to access a file on the Default User's profile instead of the real user's profile (in this case Adams Profile)
Why is it trying to look for the file on the Default User's profile Instead of Adam's Profile? How can i make it look for the file in the right profile?. I'm running it on Win 2003, C# and .Net framework 3.5
