Web Forms :: How To Apply Skin In A User Control / Can't See SkinID

Dec 11, 2010

I'm trying to applicate a skin in UserControl but That doesn't work.

In the project I put in the folder App_Theme 2 folders :

- FirstTheme: I have inside Images Folder and and a stylsheets (Personnalisation.css)...It's a project's Theme.

- Skins : here we have default.skin

I created the folder UserControls in the project and putted inside 2 users controls.

In the default.skin I wrote this code :

<asp:TextBox runat="server" Width="250px" SkinID="textBoxSkin"/>

And when I'm In the TextBox on my usercontrol I can't see in the SkinID property the textBoxSkin. I insert in the code SkinID="textBoxSkin" but nothing happened.

Web Forms :: ToolboxBitmap Attribute Not Working For Auto Added Controls?

Mar 1, 2011

I've added a ASP.Net Web Control Project to my Solution. The server controls within this project are added to my ToolBox automatically when building. However, their custom icons specified with the ToolboxBitmap attribute are not. If I add these controls to my toolbox manually with the "Choose Items" dialog, the custom icon appears properly.

Is there any way to get this to work for the auto-added controls?

C# - Cannot Change SkinID Property Dynamically

Jan 12, 2011

I get this error when I try to have my C# class change the skin of an asp control:

The 'SkinId' property can only be set in or before the Page_PreInit event for static controls. For dynamic controls, set the property before adding it to the Controls collection.

My goal is to provide a panel, call it ID="response", on every page, and then dynamically change it's CSS class from Error to Success, or Success to Error (so it's red or green). And also I make it visible = true, when a response is created.

Apparently, I am forced to use CssClass attribute, which is the only way this will work.

As a side-off-topic note: In PHP, you would not have a problem of using different "pre-init" "post-init" etc. A completely unnecessary process. You would simply change the html before you send it back to the user. I'm a bit confused why ASP.NET decides to overcomplicate everything. It's a bit silly for me to take time to learn all these different complicated processes to simply display a webpage. It takes time to learn all the quirks written in difficult-to-read ASP life-cycle documents on microsoft. Not to insult any microsoft people, but it's just not practical.

Skins Don't Populate Skinid Dropdown VWD2010

Jun 23, 2010

Just upgraded to VWD2010. I created a skin file and put it in App_Themes. I created a skin id for a couple of controls: gridview, dropdown etc. Normally in the properties you can go to skinid and a drop down with the skin id shows up and you can select it. Thats not happening. Also, if I put my skinid in for the skinid property of the component its not displaying the formating at all. For example: Here is what I have for a gridview in my skin file named /App_Themes/Default/Default.skin

MVC HandleError Attribute Not Working On Controller?

Aug 2, 2010

I am experimenting with the relationship between Elmah and MVC's plumbed in exception handling, and am surprised at the outcome of the following code. This is a brand new, straight from project template MVC application, and I have only added Elmah modules and handlers to the web.config.

[Code]....

Break when error is thrown is set to off, yet the debugger still breaks. When I continue I get a YSOD, and an Elmah error log, but it seems HandleError is doing nothing.

JUST IN I didn't think I had to have custom errors turned on, as I thought that was only for 'my' unhandled errors.

Oct 20, 2010

I installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Trial and converted existing asp.net 2.0 web application and I am getting this error: znrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive. It's coming from this section in the web.config which was auto-generated by VS2010 when I converted the project:

<!--<compiler language="c#" type="Microsoft.CSharp.CSharpCodeProvider, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089" extension=".cs" compilerOptions="/d:DEBUG;TRACE" /></compilers> -->

C# - Retrieve The Name Of The Attribute Dynamically Without Specifying The Name Of The Attribute?

Aug 13, 2010

I am developing asp.net mobile application. I am using LINQ to XML to query XML file. I am using the following query to retrieve the name & value of the query dynamically as follows

var TotalManifolds = from MF in FieldRoot.Element("FIELD-DEFINITION").Element("MANIFOLDS").Elements("MANIFOLD")
join SLT in FieldRoot.Element("FIELD-DEFINITION").Element("SLOTS").Elements("SLOT")
on (string)MF.Attribute("MID") equals (string)SLT.Attribute("PARENT")
select new
{
SlotName = (string)SLT.Attribute("NAME").Value,
SlotValue = (string)SLT.Attribute("NAME").Value
};

In the following statement of above query I want to retrive the name of the attribure dynamically without explicitly specifying the name of the attribute SlotName = (string)SLT.Attribute("NAME").Value Here I am explicitly specifying the name. I want to code which can dynamically retrieve the name of the attribute. I am new to Linq to xml. how this can be done programatically? or can you provide me the link through which I can resolve the above issue ?

Web Forms :: Extracting Attribute Value From XML?

Jun 7, 2010

This may be something simple, but I am completely new to ASP.NET. I have been reading some tutorials based on W3Schools, and I have copied one of the files and tried to play with it by changing an element with a value to storing that same value in the attribute. Here is the edited XML (my.xml):

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<countries>
<country>
<text value="N">Norway</text>
</country>
<country>
<text value="S">Sweden</text>
</country>
</countries>

I want to extract the N and S and use them as tooltips. Here is my aspx file:

<%@ Import Namespace="System.Data" %>
<script runat="server">
sub Page_Load
if Not Page.IsPostBack then
dim mycdcatalog=New DataSet
my.ReadXml(MapPath("my.xml"))
my.DataSource=my
my.DataBind()
end if
end sub
</script>
<html>
<body>
form runat="server">
<asp:Repeater id="my" runat="server">
HeaderTemplate>
table border="1" width="100%">
<tr>
<th>Name</th>
</tr>
</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<tr>
<td title="<%#Container.DataItem.("text").Attributes["value"]%><%#Container.DataItem("text")%> </td>
</tr>
</ItemTemplate>
<FooterTemplate>
</table>
</FooterTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
</form>
</body>
</html>

What have I missed here?

Web Forms :: Add An Id Or Name Attribute To The IMG Tag Rendered Out Of A MenuItem?

Dec 14, 2010

I'm using VS2010, where the automatically renders the menu items on an ASP.NET menu control in <ul> and and <li> tags with anchor and image tags--the image tags for the ImageURL reference that I specify for each MenuItem, which is great...

trying to get an id property into the img tag rendered for each menu item. Is there anyway to do this, so that I can use Jquery easily to access each of the items? The closest I can come to a unique identifier on each rendered img tag is the title property--which translates into the tooltip property on the control.
