View 5 RepliesI am working on a portal wich is hosted in Sharepoint 2007. I need to come up with a widget that will display certain messages. The widget to be visible from all pages of the portal. I would like something like the StackOverflow has for notifications of your score/badges with displaying it up on top of every page. Is there a ready solution out there (jQuery/Ajax) that can be used?
View 1 RepliesI am writing a programming using Tree View. I have created the Tree View object and have added a node for the root called Favorites. I want the user to be able to enter a value in a text box and once clicking on an add folder button, an event fires that takes the text that was entered in the textbox and creates a new node under the root node of favorites.
I am having a problem with my program in that the user is not able to click on the Favorites root note in order to create another node underneath of it. Favorites is simply displaying on the screen, but they cannot click on it to select it. What do I need to add so that the user can select the node to which they want to add a child node to?
I have an ASP.NET (3.5) page. On the page there is a widget. Here is the page code:
[Code]....
The widget (script) displays a list of news from another website like this:
---------------------------------------------------------
title1 (as link)
short description
title2
short description
.............................................
---------------------------------------------------------
1. When a user clicks on one of the links in the above list I want to "catch" the link.
2. ISSUE: When the link (from the list) is clicked the URL is opened in another browser tab
3. If a user clicks on a link I want to redirect him not to the link's URL but to a page of my website.
I have tried using global.asax (application_beginrequest) but, since the link is opened in another tab that function is never reached. How to do this?
Moderators Note: THIS ISSUE IS BIG FOR ME AND EVEN IF POSSIBLE, GET THE REPLY FROM THE DESIGNER OF GRIDVIEW. I have been looking for him for long. I am really fed up with reviewing a good lot of web pages on how we can possibly customize the gridview to enable sorting and paging. So many sites have listed out a lot of information and so many guidances. But the problem is that one works out fine and the other is a burden. I really feel bad about being given the job of customizing this kind of a gridview which has no user friendly approach to it. Also, this control is rendered without the pager links inside the <tfoot> tag. I have tried the Pear Pager in php. It is that good and easy to use and compared to that, the gridview in asp.net is the worst ever control i have ever tried so far.
1. i can use the images to indicate the sorting direction
2. I can have the custom pager like
[code]
<<Previous 1 2 3 .. 7 Next >>.
[/code]
When i click the next when i am viewing the page at 3 , the pager links should change as
[code]
<<Previous 2 3 4 .. 7 Next >>
[/code]
Kindly look into this type of requirement and firstly tell me whether this is possible with the gridview control. I would like this request even to be escalated to the designers of the gridview control also, so that Microsoft comes out with a reply THAT WORKS and not the kind of stuff like surfing through a lot of links and pages and finally wasting a lot of days precious time and still breaking the head with this useless control. I have spent a lot of time in searching for a perfect way. Not writing a code that is non-standard. I am really serious b'cos I have spent weeks in customizing this control. If I dont get a solid reply atleast now, I am going to generate all the output by HTML content by custom coding.
I have a requirement like need to display list of products in gridview and when user mouse over on any of the product need show "Add To My Fav" button. when user click on that button the corresponding details need to save in DB.
View 1 RepliesI have a page with several panels which are enabled or disabled depending from which page user were redirected to this particular page (based on UrlReferrer). Everything works perfectly until a user adds this page to favorites in IE8 (not sure about other browsers at this point), and then returns to that favorite in the future. It contains the previous data and not the data from the current page . When I click F5 it works again becase page is reloaded from the server and not from IE cache. How can I avoid this issue? Is there any way to force page reload only once! I tried also to put some code into "If Not IsPostBack", but it still does not work.

I want to use this list on several pages so i guess the best thing to use is html.renderpartial.
I then created a view by right clicking inside the action and create a .ascx and a strongly typed view of Vacancy. I chose a view content of "List".
I then added this line to the required page;

View 1 RepliesI have a hosted web application written in asp.net and would like to publish widgets for use in remote websites. For that purpose I believe I want to use embedded widgets over IFrame. I therefore need some client side code to retrieve the widget's HTML from the server. I need assistance in the Client Server communication. If you have sample code to call a .NET webservice (or any other way) so that I can start by embedding this code within the widget's client UI.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to build a page which consists of different user controls which is divided in 3 columns.I have created a custom class for the page and widgets where the user controls will be loaded in. The custom class needs to be stored in an XML file, and using jQuery sortable for drag-and-drop functionality.At this point, my question is what is the best implementation for loading and saving the states of the page and widgets inside the page? I was thinking about using JSON and WebMethod for that, but I am still missing out the architecture on how I should build the page
View 1 RepliesI have written a dynamic database driven, object oriented website with an administration frontend etc etc. I would like to add a feature where customers can save items as "favourites", without having to create an account and login, to come back to them later, but I dont know how exactly to go about doing this... I see three options:
Log favourites based on IP address and then change these to be logged against an account if the customer then creates an account; Force customers to create an account to be able to use this functionality;
Log favourites based on IP address but give users the option to save their favourites under a name they specify.
The problem with option 1 is that I dont know much about IP addresses - my Dad thinks they are unique, but I know people have had problems with systems like this.
The problem with 1 and 2 is that accounts have not been opened up to customers yet - only administrators can log in at the moment. It should be easy to alter this (no more than a morning or afternoons work) but I would also have to implement usergroups too.
The problem with option 3 is that if user A saves a favourites list called "My Favourites", and then user B tries to save a list under this name and it is refused, user B will then be able to access the list saved by user A because they now know it already exists. A solution to this is to password protect lists, but to go to all this effort I may as well implement option 2.
Scenario:
platform: ASP.NET 4.0, MVC 2.0 (doesn't have to be MVC if it's not the right solution)
Create various widgets that inherit the same core markup:
[code]....
The above "simplified" example should be in some reusable control or masterpage.
The flow is something like this:
Controller -> View -> Partial View (1..n) -> widget markup
User instantiates an action which calls a controller. The controller tries to render a view that contains content + multiple widgets (left rail, right rail, etc). The Widgets all have their own individual partial views but each partial view should inherit or consume a base set of widget markup and have controller areas where to embed functionality.
Functionality in the head, body, and footer can either be plain text, HTML, or additional custom controls.
What is the best recommended approach?
In grid view we have option by default as sorting and paging. if i disabled those two textboxes by pro grammatically i need to get that feature.
View 2 Repliesyour posts and answers are very informative and helpful in my own devolopment and understanding the nature of the beast. Im running vs2010 on a 64bit windows 7 devolopment machine. For days I have been trying to get a Microsoft Reportview to render in a popup. ( i have done this in vs2008 ). I have tried applying the same code from vs2008 to Vs2010, but am comming up with page erros. When loading the default.aspx ( testpage ) I get 'Done but with errors'. If I click on button 1 which shows the popup, I get the report viewer, but it just sits there 'loading'. From advice givenm on this forum, I have used the IE view source code to try and loacate the problem... but to be honest, I dont understand why the page complies ok, but i get errors when it is run, or indeed how to rectify the problem. I have highlighted the two errors.Ie view source code:

I want to sort the string which is in the format given below15% Test;15% Sear;40% Santhosh;30% Jeeson;
The output that I am expecting is
40% Santhosh;30% Jeeson;15% Sear;15% Test;
I wrote the following code but it does not work .
string str = "15% Test;15% Sear;40% Santhosh;30% Jeeson;";
Console.WriteLine(str);
DataTable dt = new DataTable("SortBenchMark");
DataRow dr;
dt.Columns.Add("Weightings", typeof(int));
dt.Columns.Add("BenchMark", typeof(string));
string weightings = string.Empty;
string BenchMarkName = string.Empty;
foreach (object o in str.Split(';'))
{
if(o.ToString().Length > 0)
{
dr = dt.NewRow();
dr["Weightings"] = Convert.ToInt32((o.ToString().Split('%'))[0].ToString().Trim());
dr["BenchMark"] = (o.ToString().Split('%'))[1].ToString().Trim();
dt.Rows.Add(dr);
}
}
dt.AcceptChanges();
DataView dataview = new DataView(dt);
dataview.Sort = "Weightings DESC,BenchMark Asc";
string final = string.Empty;
foreach (DataRow drow in dataview.Table.Rows)
{
final += drow["Weightings"].ToString().Trim() + "% " + drow["BenchMark"].ToString().Trim() + ";";
}
Console.WriteLine(final);

I'm trying to sort GridView but I have problem with converting DataSource to DataTable. Object of DataTable is empty. I don't know how to convert it.Do you have any ideas? Here is my code:

DataTable dt = GridViewDzialania.DataSource as DataTable;
DataView dv = new DataView(dt);
dv.Sort = sortExpression + direction;
GridViewDzialania.DataSource = dv;
GridViewDzialania.DataBind();
