Web Forms :: Storing Foreign Characters In SQL Database And Display?
Dec 29, 2010
I have a web application, which I have a SQL express database attached. I tried to upload a Japanese character into a varchar (max) column, and the result when displaying in the web page is '?'.
I tried to fix by the web config and in the page display to display japanese but it doesnt work.
I want label to display limited text say 20 char even the data it retrieve from database may be more than 20 char.. like in gmail,we see message body limited when we click it display whole message..how is that possible...?
I am getting funny characters when trying to use the text in foreign languages, it comes with # and numbers in between.I am using getraw<string> to get the raw string. How can i use this on aspx page?
I have string i get it the chracters and copare it in my table with productvalue and also comapreing productgroup g 1 to 10 thats is the lenth of the string.but it doesnot show any data in data grid.
The application needs to convert foreign characters to an American keyboard representation. It has always done so, but the customer recently added a new list of Polish characters. I have found all the documentation on the Internet, except for this. Why the "friendly" column doesn't have values for these characters?
i want to display name of related table in my gridView insetad of it's id. one solution is using sqlDataSource or objectDataSource, but i don't want using this appproach. i want to do this without setting any dataSourceID or join tables, in other word, i want to do this like windows form datagridViewComboBoxColumn.
I have a search button ..The result will be displayed in grid view if the button is pressed .. i am able to do it
But now i want to do like this ..that is my grid view is only displaying the ResultId .. I want to display the ResultName rather than resultID in the table
I have a gridview displaying "registrationtype id" (FK) from the registration table. I want it to display the related name instead of the id from the registartiontype table.
the 1st: PAR_TipiDocumento with idTipoDocumento PK idClasseDocumento [...]
the 2nd: PAR_ClassiDocumento with idClasseDocumento PK [...]
and a foreing key FK_PAR_TipiDocumento_PAR_ClassiDocumento from PAR_TipiDocumento.idClasseDocumentoto PAR_ClassiDocumento.idClasseDocumento.
This is my .cs code for the metadata:
[MetadataType(typeof(PAR_TipiDocumento_Metadata))] [DisplayName("Tipi Documento")] public partial class PAR_TipiDocumento[code]....
The problem is that in the Dynamic Data generated pages I correctly see all the display names "Tipi Documento" except for the header row of the PAR_ClassiDocumento table where I have "PAR_TipiDocumentos" (the plural generated by LINQ to SQL). The values under this column are correctly rendered as links to the PAR_TipiDocumento table with the right display name ("View Tipi Documento").
How can I change the Display Name of that "PAR_TipiDocumentos"?
I am writing an application in which a remote url web site ( says url1 that is sender) sends xml data to another web site (says url2 that is receiver) by using .NET WebRequest. On the receiver url2 if I use .NET Page.Response and .NET Page.Request to store posted/received xml data into an external text file, then the data is stored. However, if I store the received data into database, I do not see the data is stored into the database.
trouble shoot the codes so I can store such remotely posted data into database on the receiver side url2.
I host both url1 site and url2 site in my computer using IIS like [URL]
1/ Receiver page's codes that store remotely posted xml data into database do not work:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Page.Response.ContentType = "text/xml"; StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(Page.Request.InputStream); String xmlData= reader.ReadToEnd(); ProductNameSapce.ProductCollection.InsertReceivedProduct(xmlData).ToString(); // data is not stored ; the method is tested and works well with hard-coded data reader.Close(); Page.Response.End(); }
2/ The version of the receiver page at url2 that stores into an external text file works:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Page.Response.ContentType = "text/xml"; StreamReader reader = new StreamReader ( Page.Request.InputStream ); String xmlData= reader.ReadToEnd (); StreamWriter s; s= File.CreateText ( Server.MapPath(".")+@""+ Guid.NewGuid () + ".txt" ); s.WriteLine ( xmlData); // data is stored in an external text file s.Close (); reader.Close(); Page.Response.End(); }
I suppose this question has been asked to death all over the web, but I can seem to find a clear cut answer. What I am trying to achieve is as follows: I have a web application that lists various products, their descriptions, names etc and also an image of that specific product. The user will type in a product code or name of the product and a page will pop up with al the previous mentioned info and image or images of that specific product. The problem I am having is: I read somewhere that storing images in a database is 'bad idea' since it effects performance, then I read somewhere else to keep it in the images / or app_data folder. But what would be the best approach and how would I call it from the database (if that's the best way)? And if App_Data / images are the way to go how many images can I put in there (??) already the product catalog has several hundred images of various products. So how would one go about sorting everthing in those folders without having a few hundred images rolling down in my solutions explorer.
I am building a website that have a number of dropdownlists. The user selects his/her choice and this is sent to a number of companies. Therefore the choice has to be changed to the corresponding value of the individual company i.e value 1 will be coverted to the corresponding value of "AB" for company "x". What way would be most efficent to achieve this. A database seems to be unefficent with the calls to the database. Would a 2-D array in a class be best?
I have two tables (Person and Location) In the Dynamic Data Site, when adding Location info, I am need to choose a person from the dropdown box which is populated via a FK. That dropdown box defaults to the field in "Person" that is titled "fname" which is first name, so it looks like "Jim" or "Steve".
I'm trying to have that dropdown box display the full name of the person it references which would be combining the fields fname and lname.
Would I do this inside a Field Template? Metadata? I'm kind of stuck on this.
If I look at the FieldTemplate for ForeignKey_Edit I see this:
[code]...
and it seems like I should be able to make something similar to "PopulateListControl" and use that instead, but I have no idea where this method even resides.
Friends have quick question for you.i want to know storing videos and images into database(binary data) or local hard drive is efficent. What way general websites stores them in their websites.
I just came across some code that seems to encrypt database keys prior to sending them to the client (WebBrowser, Silverlight, etc).
To illustrate, suppose you have a list of students to extra-curricular activities, and a relationship defined between them. Every time the data is written out to the ASPX page, the studentID and activityID is encrypted. Every time a write, or modify is made, this value is sent back to the server, decrypted, and saved to the database.
What could be the reasons to expose data this way? Is this a normal practice?
I have set up a ASP.net MVC application which uses the default forms authentication. It uses the ASPNETDB.mdf like shown here:
I then set up another database connection which is similar to the NerdDinner.mdf file above.
I have a post that belongs to a user. It has a UserId value which needs to be a foreign key to the information in ASPNETDB.mdf. When I go to add a foreign key, I can only see information with regards to the table I made. How do I go about doing this?
I am working on the application that allows user to upload a file (from their local machine) and store the uploaded file in database. Then, the content of the file (such as ContentType,FileSize etc)can be view in a DetailsView control.
I have an application in which if I enter greek characters it gets diplsayed correctly till they are in cache but when I go to another webform andcome back this data is passed to database and comes back and is not right it shows something else than the greek character I entred.
What could be the problem, is it something to do with database conversion or what?
I have a Dictionary<int, string> cached (for 20 minutes) that has ~120 ID/Name pairs for a reference table. I iterate over this collection when populating dropdown lists and I'm pretty sure this is faster than querying the DB for the full list each time.
My question is more about if it makes sense to use this cached dictionary when displaying records that have a foreign key into this reference table.
Say this cached reference table is a EmployeeType table. If I were to query and display a list of employee names and types should I query for EmployeeName and EmployeeTypeID and use my cached dictionary to grab the EmployeeTypeIDs name as each record is displayed or is it faster to just have the DB grab the EmployeeName and JOIN to get the EmployeeType string bypassing the cached Dictionary all together.
