Web Forms :: Treeview Web Server Control Client Side Events?
Sep 2, 2010
I'm using Treeview control with asp.net 2.0. I would like to know how to get the client side events working. I don't want a post back for every little thing i do with the Treeview. Particularly i want to catch the node click event on the client side using java script, i want to enable/disable buttons based on the selected node. Is this possible? i tried some examples available on net but doesn't seem to be working.

Just I started learning MVC pattern, of course i am learning it from Microsoft's website.Just i want to gather quiz information from the experts. My understanding is (correct me then and there)
1 ) MVC does not support server side events, but supports client side events. If it supports client side events, I need html page with jQuery/Javascript (view), but most of the example I absorbed is to display the information(model) in view, I did not see any client side event handling happens in view.
2) Except ViewState and controlState, MVC supports Sessions, Application State management, Cache management.
3) When request goes to MVC engine, the routing module routes the request that is picked up by the controller. The controller in executes the appropriate action and returns the appropriate view.

I have a Treeview with "populateOnDemand" set to true. I want this treeview to keep its state (nodes expanded/collapsed) from one page to another. Viewstate doesn't work because the treeview is different for each page. Here is my code at the moment.
ASPX page :
[code]....
This works well, buf I wish I could avoid the postback everytime the user expands or collapses a node. I know I can set EnebleClientScript to true and manage the events client side in Javascript but I won't be able to use my session variable anymore. Is there a way to achieve this ?

I have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)
<asp:RadioButton runat="Server" ID="RadioBetween" GroupName="DateGroup" CssClass="date_group_options_control_radio" />
[code]...
There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)

function ValidateDateFields_Client(source, args) [code]...
There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.

//
var ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator = document.all ? document.all["ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator"] : document.getElementById("ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator");
[code]...
Do i need to add something in to scope it? What's the best way to achieve this? If I disable the loading of the second control everything works fine.

I have a hidden variable and its value is being updated using javascript(client side) which I make a call from server side code. After making the call I am not able to retrieve the updated value from Server side variable. I went through this forum [URL] but not able find a way how to implement functionality with IFRAME. I am trying to call the client side code and retrieve the updated value from server side in page_load event.

I've got two textboxes running server side and have their visibility turned off. I'm using a couple of ASP.NET controls which require the textboxes to exist. However, I am filling them from the code behind and would not like the user to see this. Can the user turn the visibility on and see the values entered in the text box? I tried using FireBug, and I couldn't seem to select the visibility option in order to edit it. However, I'm quite new to Firebug, so there may be another way? Or does running it server side mean that the client can't ever view the contents of the textbox?

For the ASP.NET validator controls, I want to use both client-side validation for the user experience and server-side validation to guard against hackers. ASP.NET documentation leads me to believe that if EnableClientScript="True" then there will be no server-side validation if client-side validation is possible for the user agent. To get server-side validation, the documentation says use EnableClientScript="False", which bypasses client-side validation altogether.
Am I misunderstanding how the validator controls work? I ask because it seems obvious that many developers would want both client and server side validation together, and I find it hard to believe both together is not possible with one of the standard validation controls.
If I am understanding the ASP.NET documentation correctly, then I can find only two options:
Use two validator controls exactly the same except for their ID and EnableClientScript properties. Obviously ugly for maintaining two controls almost the same.Write some code behind to check if postback then invoke the Validate method on the validator group. Why write code behind if there a way to be automatic from the control?
Is there a way to do so using a single validator control with no code behind?

I'm new to ASP.net 3.5 and testing functionality before developing an asp.net web site. I created a page with a formview. I added several text boxes. I created an event on the FirstName_TextChanged event and added a stop in the sub. When I open the page in the browser and type in some text in the FirstName and press tab, nothing seems to fire.
1) Is this supposed to fire on the client side when text is changed?
2) If so, would the vb.net code entered work like Javascript code on the server?
3) If so again, is it possible to update another textbox based on the text entered into the FirstName on the Client Side (would do this in Javascript in Classic ASP)?
I think I'm totally confused. I've been searching web for article about how to do this.

This is so frustrating...that such a simple feature should not be included in the design of this control. I am using the cssfriendly adapters and the rendered code is shown below.
I thought I might be able to use the adapter's treeview JS function ExpandCollapse__AspNetTreeView(this) since this is what is called when I click on the node that causes it to expand/contract. But that did not work.
I have seen other code posted but it seemed to imply the treeview was a table not a ul.
Does anyone know how to simply expand or collapse all nodes from a link button without doing the postback. Of course the postback works but what a waste to have to postback to do such a simple action.
Why doesn' t MS consider the users and developers when creating these controls and tools? Stupid!

Let's say I have a DropDownList server control, called "CategoriesDDL" and the ClientID proeprty determines its client side id, which is its ID prefixed with the id's NamingContainer's ids. In this case the client side ID is CP1_CategoriesDDL. But what is the rule regarding the client side name, in this case "ct100$CP1_CategoriesDDL"?

In IsPostBack

Suppose I'm building a StackOverflow clone using webforms ASP.NET and jQuery. The Question page has a question, several answers, and comments under each. Requirements:Users can post new answers and comments, and edit existing ones, without postbacks. No UpdatePanels; the AJAX calls retrieve just the JSON they need, not HTML fragments. The page loads with all existing answers and comments in place (no javascript needs to run to read the page).
What I'm trying to figure out is how to do this without having to maintain two sets of markup (one that's bound on the client using some form of jQuery templating, and one that's bound on the server using traditional WebForms).
