i have a page with 2 Textboxes. in that page i use userControl with 2 textbox and a Save button now case is when i click on Save Button...i want to validate my controls. Both of page and both of usercontrol. in usercontrol is done by customvalidator... because of some specific conditions. now same time ... the controls of page should be validated for requred fieldvalitors, the issue is.... same type of usercontrol i have and which are on page same time. so i am not able to fire validation controls for parent page.

I have a 2 part question for web user controls: 1. I want to have an event fire in my user control, but have it be consumed by the parent page, like:
<asp1:Object id="objectMain" runat="server" OnClick="Click" />
Is it possible to do this? Or do I need to make a server control for this functionality? I have it being able to be set in the Page_Init, but I'd like to make it as similar to actual controls as possible. Also, if it is possible to access via the Events section under Properties, that would be good and 2. I am trying to register the web user control as an AsyncPostbackTrigger for another UpdatePanel. With the previous question in mind, is it also possible to set this via the GUI, or does this need to be set programmatically as well?

I noticed on a number of formviews that my validation controls seemed to be firing twice (which they were). I just found a case where a "Save" button had
onclick="UpdateButton_Click" in its defintion on the aspx page as well as the event routine having a "Handles UpdateButton.Click." This scenario made the UpdateButton_Click code run twice (and thus I expect that any validation controls would fire twice as well). When I removed the onclick="UpdateButton_Click"from the button defintion, the code only ran once, as desired. This double validation has gotten me especially with customvalidators.

The question now is, why does having the onclick defined as well as the "Handles" on the event routine cause a double run of the event routine?I am going back into all my code to find where I have this "double" hit and remove the onclick in those instances.

i need required field validators for few of textboxes and if everything is filled then on clk of submit btn i want to display an alert msg with sme text.so i kept required field validatiors for all txtboxes and in for alert i wrote javascript function...so first the script gets triggered and then the validators?? wat is the soln:?

I'm working on a questionnaire type application in which questions are stored in a database. Therefore, I create my controls dynamically on every Page.OnLoad.This works like a charm and ViewState is persisted between postbacks because I ensure that my dynamic controls always have the same generated Control.ID.
In addition to the user control that dynamically populates the questions, my questionnaire page also contains a 'Status' section (also encapsulated by a user control) which represents the status of the questionnaire (choices are 'Complete', 'Started' or 'In Progress'). If the user changes the status of questionnaire (i.e. from 'In Progress' to 'Complete'), I need to postback to the server because the contents of the dynamic portion of the questionnaire depend on the selected status.
Some questions are always present regardless of status, and yet others may not be present at all for the selected status. The point is, when the status changes, I have to postback to the page and render the right set of questions. Additionally, I need to preserve any user entered values for those questions which are 'always available'.
However, due to the page life cycle in ASP.NET, the 'Status' user control's OnLoad, which contains the correct status needed to load the right questions from the DB, doesn't get executed until after the 'dynamic questions' user control has already been populated (with the wrong/stale values).
To get around this, I raise an event from my 'Status' user control to the main page to indicate that the Status has changed. The main page then raises an event on the 'dynamic questions' user control. Since by the time this event bubbles up, the 'dynamic questions' user control has already loaded the 'wrong' questions from the DB, it first calls Controls.Clear. It then happily uses the new status to query the database for the 'correct' questions and does a Control.Add() on each. FYI, Control.IDs are consistent across postbacks.
This solution works...sorta. The correct set of questions for the selected status do get rendered; however ViewState is getting lost for those 'always available' questions. I'm guessing this is because the 'dynamic questions' user control calls Controls.Clear when responding to the status changed event. This must somehow kill the association between ViewState and my dynamic controls, even though the Control.IDs are consistent.
This seems like such a common requirement, I'm virtually certain there is a better, cleaner and less error prone approach to accomplish this. In case its not plainly obvious, I haven't been able to grok the ASP.NET page life-cycle despite working with it for the last year.

I am in little confusion to send date from second page that is Calander.aspx to the Page from where it has been called.The confusion is that the following code is in the Calander.aspx:

In Parent page, the textbox is in formview and there is an image when we click it the above code activated and gets the date using above line of code and sends back to the parent page from where it is called.The confusion is that if this calandar is in other pages therefore do I have to add the following line of code in the above MyDateChange() function for each page textbox or there are more then one textbox to take date as input in same page?

I have a form with several text boxes on it. I only want to accept floats, but it is likely that users will enter a dollar sign. I'm using the following code to remove dollar signs and validate the content:

My problem is that when someone enters a dollar sign in the TextBox "tb" and changes focus the validation happens first and THEN the jQuery removes the dollar sign. Is it possible to have the jQuery run first or to force the validation to run again after the jQuery executes?

I have a search control in my master page with the following validation on the search btn's OnClientClick:

Then in the content page I have various controls with validation and a validation summary. I have few custom validators on the content page like below:

which uses the clientvalidationsfunctions which set the validity of the page.Now when I leave the search box in the header blank and I click the submit btn in the content page it posts me back to same (source) page and while debugging I find that the Page.IsValid is false. But if I write something in the search textbox in the master page and the fill the required fields in the content page and click the submit btn in content page it works fine. Why is that so? My validation groups are different on master page and content page.

Even though the form has the necessary validation elements like requiredfieldvalidator, comparevalidator and so on, the validation on client side does not fire and form is submitted and saved.I checked twice the code, nothing seemed wrong and have no what might it caused.

I am using one datalist control for uploading multiple images.I hv used one Asp:FileUplaod Control and one button in one itemtemplate.I am using reqired field validator and regular expression validator for file upload cntrl I am assigning validation group for both of them on ItemDataBound event of my datalist so that each upload cntrl hv same validaton group as required field and regular expression validator.Now what i want to do is - i want to show my error message in validation summary which is right at the top of the page.I want one know how to write javascript that will assign validation group of my control in datalist on which i click ?

How can i refresh(Asych) the contents of my Datalist on the parent page from a data change in a page that is displayed in an iFrame on the parent page.
I have movie names with image in the data list that is on parent page.
there another page is openend in the parent pages in an iFrame control.
in that sub page i upload image and other data related to a new movie.
What i want is that when i submit that information in an iFrame page, the DataList should update(Asych) itself on the parent page showing new updated info.

Considering three webpages. In all pages there are gridivews. The gridview columns has numeric data.
When user click on data figure suppose 29 then it redirects to other page with 29 records. In the redirected page if user again click on data suppose 12 then it redirects to another page with 12 records.
I want to give option to user that if form third page he wants to go back by clicking a hyperlink on that page then the second should appear in its previous state i.e. have showing the clicked value 29 and if he wants to go the first page then first page should keep and display its previous state with the searched data.

I've written a custom ASP.net control that descends from LinkButton and overrides the Render() method. I'm using it to replace ImageButtons in the site I'm working on so we don't have to have an image for each button. This control works fine, does the required post-backs etc., however it doesn't fire the validators in its validation group. This is obviously an issue. The code for the control is (condensed) as follows:

I am adding some dynamic image buttons to a form in my code behind (vb.net) and added a click event handler, but it never fires. Also when I click on a button the page posts back and everything below my update panel disappears.

I have a bit of javascript that presents a modal to the user with the rest of the page "grayed out." Pretty common these days. The modal allows you to specify a URL which then uses AJAX to serve and display. What I need is that when the control posts back, it posts back to the parent page, not the modal page. To attempt this, I used javascript to alter the target of the modal page's form element to the parent page's URL. When I try this I get the following error:
Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.
This is done locally and as of now, the app will never be on a cluster. I think this has to do with the validation process and .NET doesn't like that I've changed the target. Anyone know a way around this? I really need this to work how I described.
