I'm retrieving a binary file from the database, a .pdf file that I would like to let the user open and view. From what I can tell, there are two steps to do this:
1. Convert binary file to byte array
2. Convert byte array to file content
Here's what I've got so far:
[Code]....
This isn't working and I'm having a heck of a time trying to find a solution. I'm getting a blue squiggly under c1.docData in the Dim bArray line.

I am trying to pull string values from LDAP. They are all text attributes in LDAP. I'm able to pull all values successfully from LDAP except one attribute below. following line of code displays System.Byte[] instead of actual string value. Why is it showing System.Byte[] and how can I fix it?
txtAccount.Text = loResultPropertyCollection[
"Account"][0].ToString().ToLower();

I have defined an ODBC Command and ODBCdatareader as follows
OdbcConnection myConnection = new OdbcConnection(connectionString);
OdbcCommand myCommand = new OdbcCommand();
myCommand.Connection = myConnection;
myCommand.CommandText = "select UOPGM from GREG.TUSROPTF";
OdbcDataReader myReader;
myConnection.Open();
myReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader();
When I try to retreive from the reader as follows:
while (myReader.Read())
{
string someString = myReader["UOPGM"];
lstNames.Items.Add(someString);
}
I get the following error
Error reading the database. Unable to cast object of type 'System.Byte[]' to type 'System.String'."
I have also tried string someString = (string)myReader["UOPGM"]; to no avail

I am develping an application that integrates with an RFID kit. The problem is, the kit comes with an .cs class that accepts data stored in a byte array however, each information stored in the array respresents an int. I wanted to store String information in each array but, my research suggest that a String itself can be converted to a byte array and not a byte....here the code from the .cs class:
byte BlockNo = 0;
byte[] BlockData = new byte[16];
byte ReturnCode = 0;
[code]....
Each t_b*.text respresents an int. Is there a way I can stored a String in a single byte block?

I have been googling this and have not come along a working solution for an entire day. I don't know anything about binary data types (as I've never knowingly used them) and I'm trying to write a binary value that I see in the registry, to the registry. Now, all I see is the following [shown below]... and if I try to pass that as a string to the RegSetValueEx in the WinAPI and of course it errors out... I do not know what 'numbers' I need to pass into the lpData As Any, argument of RegSetValueEx (i tried a bit array) in order for it to come out as the following [shown below] in the regedit. I really have no idea, and my tests to place random numbers in the bit array just produce corresponding random "figures" as visible in regedit that I do not understand how to 'tie' them together logically.
here is the culprit!
[Code]...
If I had the following in a string or a bit array, what must I populate the bitarray with so that the registry outputs this [above] when written? or, how can I figure out how to do it? I was hoping there'd be a function that reads my string of binary data and transforms it into the real binary format to submit to the RegSetValueEx function in VB6 or other function in VB.Net or C# (this really is a language agnostic question, and the problem exists in all languages; ie: same process).
