The master page consists of a search textbox, on key down event of the control I call a javascript function writtern inline of the master page. I get the value of entered in textbox in that javascript function. I have tried giving document.getElementById("<%=txtSearch.ClientID %>").value as well as document.getElementById("txtSearch").value. Both display error. I have to access the textbox control from within the master page itself!

In the ContentPage, I tried referencing the control this way "this.Site.stastusBar" and "this.Master.Status" and neither one works. Both instellisense warns me that "statusBar" does not exist.

I want to call the UpdateUserLogin() method from a user control, something like this:
((Recipes.MasterPage)this.Page.Master).UpdateUserLogin();
But for some reason the compiler doesn't know Recipes.MasterPage (are you missing an assembly blablabla).
Maybe the problem is that I added the Recipes namespace around MasterPage manually, it wasn't added by VS. By the way I'm using VS Web Developer Express 2008.

May 24, 2010We have created a Master page that inherits off the asp.net Master class.We have also got ui controls that inherit off the standard asp.net ui control class.Our Master page has a public member variable. We need to be able to access that member variable from the ui controls that we use.However we can't seem to get at it? Is it our architecture that is wrong? Or the idea itself - user control getting acces to Master page variables?

Sep 5, 2010I have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?

I'm assuming this since to my understanding controls need first to be put into the control tree before they can be assigned their declarative values? And when page has a master page associated with it, then aren't page's controls put into the control tree only during the Pre_Init or perhaps even during the Init event? Then if that is the case, then isn't the earliest that these controls can be assigned their declarative values during Init event?
b) Assuming our page is associated with Master page and also uses a theme --> skin files are also applied during an Init event, so I assume that during an Init event Asp.Net first initializes controls to their declarative values and only then applies skin rules to them?
Web Forms :: Unable To Access A Dynamically Created User Control
Feb 10, 2010I have a dynamically created address user control (on a customer administration screen) that is created through the use of a place holder. A customer can have multiple addresses, so they dynamically dropped onto the page.
I have got this far, but now I need to be able to save the updated addresses for the customer but I can't get any event to fire on the user controls. When I check to see run plhAddress.HasControls() it returns false?
The way I am generating the user controls is as follows.. private UserControl LoadControl(string UserControlPath, params object[] constructorParameters)
