Web Forms :: Creating Bespoke Content Management System In VB?
Jul 28, 2010
Im using vb.net, sql2005, ajax, .net3.5. Ok first off, yes i know there are some great CMS applications available already, dot.net nuke, kentico, umbraco, etc etc. However my problem is that i cant bring an external open source app into our organisation but i could develop one.
Im doing this to allow us to move all our HTML content, (Static pages) into a system that provides some sort of basic workflow and content management, im confident on doing this, my problem however is that ive been asked to store the data in XML.
Whilst i know that i can store the XML inside my database, and then read it out and transform im not sure how to do this when it comes to how authors create the pages - What i mean is normally i would give the author an HTML editor to add content, but this isnt going to work if im writing to XML, and also, what happens if they add an table inside the HTML editor
Has anyone every seen this done, is it even possible, or should we just look to use HTML stored inside the DB?
I am a new bie to work with ASP.net. I want to create an application /site in asp.net which work like content management system. As we see many sites are now a days being build on JOOMLA. How can we create such a CMS (content management system) sites using ASP.NET.
I am creating a content management system but there is one problem. What I want to do in my website is that when a user opens the website a new sessionid is created for that user, and when the user closes the website, the sessionid is cleared. How can I can do it?
Assumptions: Microsoft stack (ASP.NET; SQL Server).
Some content management systems handle user-generated content (images, file attachments) by storing it in the file system. Others store these items in the back end database.
Some examples of both:
[code]....
What's the best approach, and why? What are the pros and cons of keeping user files in the database? Is there another approach?
I want to know how can I write custom session management mechanism in ASP.NET. I do not want to use cookies or URL to have my session ID thus I think I can not use SessionIDManager. I will like to save the sessionID in a post variable and at server I will like to extract this ID to map with session.
Im creating a messaging system abit like the inbox feature of facebook and even this website (its gonna be created as a asp.net website). Now the messages ive been told should go to a database and then from there be displayed on a page. Im gonna be creating this system because its a project for university. Its not going to be published online or anything, just a simple demo in front of suoervisor n examiner. Im gonna simply create a database within the application to hold all the data. Now i need to have user login feature capability so the right messages are displayed to the right users. I wants the messages to be as a "thread". Any idea how this can be done in asp.net? im using visual studio 2008 .net framework 3.5.
I am searching the internet for possible solution for my problem, I have a page that sets the master page at runtime, my problem is how to create a content (asp:Content) control for each of contentplaceholder (that exists at design-time) in each masterpage?? I am looking at AddContentTemplate, but seems not working...
i am working on a project in which i have to create newsletters. We wish to give user functionality of editing the complete layout ( drag and drop if possible) I am able to achieve drag and drop with web parts but can't customise them much like adding richtext box and saving multiple copies of same page with different layouts. I then wish to enable user to send the html only part of page which contains dynamic layout.
Im creating a messaging system which is a bit like the inbox feature of this forum. So far I have built the page with a datalist (as this is the advice i was given). I just want to know how I should create the tables within the database so that the thread of messages is seen by the right people when they login and view messages. Which is basically the 2 people messaging each other. The system is gonna have user sign in functionality as well.
I have created a simple webrequest script to return the HTML content of a remote site and everything works great on almost every site I tap. However, the site I want to utiilize this script on returns no content. It does return headers, but no content!! Does anyone know if AJAX or some other method could be utilized to block the use of webrequests?
I'm working on master pages. And I would like to create tabs much like firefox tabs sharing sessions which need to navigate on different pages.I tried many solution but all comes into vain.
I have to develop a web application (planning to do it with asp). The customer want to have the access to manage the website content without need to contact the developper for that easy task (adding text and pictures essentially based on user authentication). Is there any mean to do it rapidly ?
I have considered to use CMS (Sitefinity , DNN ..) to have the content managemnet capbility and to have the out of box modules , but I still fear the fact I will not have total control to see the all code done by the CMS. For exemple , you cannot (I am may be wrong ) add a .aspx form with a code behind in Sitefinity 4.0,
Is there any modules that could be used in .net (may be web parts : I am still reading about it) ?
i´m creating a webpage as a project to school. In this project i´m dynamically adding data to Placeholder (PH1). Is possible to send all the content from PH1 by using namespace System.Net.Mail?
I've been tasked with creating a dorm signup/management application for the University at which I work. The application will have a front-end and a back-end. The front-end will be utilized by students.
Front-End:
A student will login and see a selection of dorm buildings they are eligible to reside in (based on gender, class level, etc.).Student will click on dorm they are interested in residing in. A new set of options will appear - a list of available rooms they are eligible for within that dorm.Student will clock on the room they are interested in residing in. They will see how many spaces are open and who is currently residing in that room. They can then choose to add themselves to the room.Obviously, students will also be able to remove themselves from rooms and navigate backwards and forwards through the various levels - e.g. if they get into a dorm or room and see it isn't what they want they will be able to go back to the entire dorm orthe entire campus.
Back-End:
Administration will be able to assign students to specific rooms and/or dorms. They will be able to set time windows in which certain students, class levels, etc. can select their dorm room. This is the essential functionality of the applicaiton. Pretty simple. I'd like any recommendations on the best way to write this application and anything I might be missing. I've been doing some preliminary work trying different ideas.
I've been using LINQ to tie into the data sources - which seems to be working fairly well. The one area I'm having some difficulties with with dynamic control rendering and event handling. Since the application doesn't know which dorms or rooms will be available until it knows who the student is, the controls need to be generated dynamically.

I have too many scheduler for project but i have problem that when some problem happen like exception then i need that start again and start for same place where they start.
Im wring a mini cms knowledge base type solution, there is a requirement to create versions of a document so that we are able to revert if neccessary. Ive never done this and although i think im along the write track on the design id like some and advice from anyone who has experience of doing this.
Im using vb.net sql 2005, .net 3.5 and ajax. Ive created a table with the following which will contains the process details tempID pk processID varchar(20) processVersion int title desciption
the processID will be generated by the app, based on a random number generator the version will be set by 1 on the first time page is created. If each time an already existing piece of content is updated i would select the original data, copy it to a new row, creating a new tempID but keeping the same processID, and then incrementing the process version by 1. Where it gets alittle complicated, is that i have another 2 table 1 which contains snippets of content, and 2 which can be relates the process to the snippet, snippets are resusable so can be added to multiple processes, again it must provide versioning of each snippet. table 1 uses the same idea as the process table above
