View 1 RepliesIm using vb.net, sql2005, ajax, .net3.5. Ok first off, yes i know there are some great CMS applications available already, dot.net nuke, kentico, umbraco, etc etc. However my problem is that i cant bring an external open source app into our organisation but i could develop one.
Im doing this to allow us to move all our HTML content, (Static pages) into a system that provides some sort of basic workflow and content management, im confident on doing this, my problem however is that ive been asked to store the data in XML.
Whilst i know that i can store the XML inside my database, and then read it out and transform im not sure how to do this when it comes to how authors create the pages - What i mean is normally i would give the author an HTML editor to add content, but this isnt going to work if im writing to XML, and also, what happens if they add an table inside the HTML editor
Has anyone every seen this done, is it even possible, or should we just look to use HTML stored inside the DB?

View 2 RepliesI am a first time user of Microsoft Visual Web Developer. I am using it to create a Store and Inventory Management System. The app has four types of users - Administrator, Sales Person, Inventory Manager, Sales Manager. I have created four roles for the above user types and created folders under the root directory accessible only to each of these four roles. Now, an Admin should be able to create or delete the other three types of users. I have created a CreateAccount.aspx page under the admin folder using ASP.net Login controls. But in order to reach that page an user has already has to be logged in as Admin, so the CreateUserWizard control is not working. Could anyone tell me how to structure my app, so that the admin is able to add or remove other user accounts?

I found out that the main site has been developed using the .NET Framework, and the forum has been built using PHP based vBulletin.
Are these two different domains? In other words, is the Forum some folder inside the Visual Studio Project www.example.net running as part of the ASP.NET website? Or is "forum.example.com/content a link to an altogether different website?
Our application is on NLB. Now we have functionality where administrator can upload the images, files that user can see. We have two serversserver1 and server2. Rackspace will not install the MSChart.exe package on the Rackspace Cloud Sites servers.
After doing some research, I found that <sessionState> can be hosted in SQL Server allowing applications to read from the same source. Essentially my app has two sides: a WCF library and an ASP.NET MVC 3 web site, the WCF has authentication and other DB IO methods and the MVC does the display. Now, the MVC stores a value in the session and then the WCF reads it and creates another for the MVC to read later. Problem is, neither can read each others session data, they can write to the same repository but can't share.
How do I go about them sharing the same information? How can I tell <sessionState> that the session started on the MVC side is the same as the WCF side and viceversa? I've tried
I work on an ASP.Net 4 project that uses forms authentication.The majority of our users login without any trouble, however, something strange is happening with a small number of users and I think we've narrowed it done to the User Agent string.Most users when logged in will see a fairly standard looking URL, e.g. http://mywebsite.co.uk/Web/Pages/Default.aspx, the "web" folder is the root of the site.
Some users when logged in are producing URLs such as
http://mywebsite.co.uk/Web/(F(wjNTtmLFYK3PyAUD09idKtZcyRPlf3Mlc6_rJMMwd1r0EvxeL1ROKYoTbd6KQWJNJHebiCs8qN4laZAItib4ZmcfMy75KhGlBrMCjY-47phUNQiJ_Q0-E3ntvf8tscjxfD5A0lVXau-UxDvN6gTgW1TkwhA1))/Pages/Default.aspx. I can only assume the garbage characters are some sort of session identifier string.
These obscure, long URLs work fine for some pages, but a lot of pages (including our home page) use the LoadControl(path) method to dynamic load content, or have hyperlinks to static files on the server (e.g. PDFs). In these scenarios the users with the long URLs crash the application as obviously the files it's looking for don't exist because the paths have been obscured with garbage characters.
We can reproduce this error by using masking the User Agent in Firefox to emulate the Googlebot, and sometimes the iPhone. Is there a particular reason why some user agents will produce this behaviour? Can anyone shed any light at all on why the random string is being injected into every URL on our sites?

Should I put them all within one project, and create separate folders in each Views, Models and Controllers folder for each site, or would it be better to create a separate project for each site, although I'm not sure how I would integrate

I have two e-commerce sites. One was built using ASP .net technology and the other one was built using open source codes.
Now I would like to allow shared shopping cart between the two sites. The customer will be able to add product from either site to the same shopping cart and check out.
Has anyone done this type of project before? It seems that there isn't any easy solution -- i.e. we would have to build a new shopping cart from group up for both sites.
We are working on a SharePoint Site where we have created lot of webparts. Now so far we have been creating SitePages for these webparts manually and adding webparts to those. It takes lot of time in any environment and its difficult to move from environment to environment.What is the ideal way of doing it?
