Web Forms :: Data Showing Up When It Isn't In Database?
Dec 8, 2010
In my web page, in the Page_Load, I populate my alerts dropdownlist with data from my database. This works fine. I load up the alert and then press the delete button on my web page and it correctly deletes my Alert. I close out the web form and then go back into it and the alert still shows up in my dropdownlist but it's not in the database.
Here is my Page_Load code:
[Code]....
I'm assuming this is a cache issue.
I saw the SQLDataSource.CacheDuration member but I'm not sure how to use it. If I set this right after I populate my dropdownlist box, will my dropdownlist still be populated?

I'm trying to show images that come from a sql query into a GridView column, the problem is that the best solution found in the web searches the database twice for each row.
This solution says that we have to first create a handler (ImageHandler.ashx),
It will receive the ID of the row that contains the image, and then query the database with that ID.
Then it will finally perform something like "context.Response.BinaryWrite((byte[])dReader["Photo"]);" (in this case the handler uses a DataReader, I guess we could use another approach)
We also have to declare the image column in the markup as:
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Image">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Image ID="Image1" runat="server" ImageUrl='<%# "ImageHandler.ashx?ID=" + Eval("ID")%>' />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
The problem is that, the Grid is bound to a SqlDataSource with a SelectCommand like: "Select ID, Name, Photo FROM Employees", that is already querying the database, then the GridView will execute the handler with the ID in it's query string, so the handler will query the database again for the same row, to extract the image.
Isn't there a way to send the image to the handler, so that it only performs the instruction "context.Response.BinaryWrite..." without having to query the database again?

I populate mete tag from database according to this thread [URL] ....
In store.aspx page i have this behinde code
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
string data = Server.UrlDecode(Request.QueryString["BehCode"]);
SqlCommand _cmd = new SqlCommand("storeInfo", _cn);
_cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
_cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@BehCode",data);
_cn.Open();

I am currently learning vb.net with sql. I have two textboxes (txtValue and txtText) , a dropdownlist (ddl1) and save button (btnAdd). I insert value to txtValue and txtText (eg: txtValue: A and txtText: Apple). When I click button Add, The value will display in dropdownlist (like this; A - Apple) and both data will be save in the sqlserver (db).
I am having issue where when i click button Add, the data is not display in the dropdownlist. But when i refresh my browser, the data will display in dropdownlist.
ASP.net
Code:
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1" runat="server" CssClass="form-control" AutoPostBack="true"></asp:DropDownList>
<label class="form-control-static">Value</label>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtValue" runat="server" CssClass="form-control"></asp:TextBox>
<label class="form-control-static">Text</label>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtText" runat="server" CssClass="form-control"></asp:TextBox>
<button id="btnAdd" runat="server" style="min-width: 80px;">Add</button>
VB.Net
Code:
Protected Sub Page_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
If Page.IsPostBack = False Then
Dim rs As DataSet
ddl1.Items.Clear()
ddl1.Items.Add("")

I have a small Access database with some fields, like: date, name, text. Those fields are stored in a record inside MS Access. I also have an PDF file available belonging to that record as described before. I like to store the title of this PDF also in this record. Clicking by an user on this title should show the PDF file in a separate form. The pdf's are all stored in a map called e:pdfs and filename can be as needed. My questions are:
1. how should i bring the pdf names inside the record (like e:pdfsumber-one.pdf ? )
2. by clicking on this name the pdf file should be showed in a seperate form?
3. clicking means probably a javascript that handles the pdf file ?
4. can anyone give me some clues? I do work with VS2010 and framework 4

I am a complete newbie when it comes to ASP.NET and SQL database access. I'm trying to learn so that I might become gainfully employed one day soon and better my life. I'm running through the Visual Web Developer Express 2008 beginning walkthroughs right now and I'm already stuck on the third one -- Walkthrough: Basic Data Access in Web Pages. I've installed MS SQL Server 2008 and downloaded the sample Northwind and pubs databases, and even (I think) attached the pre-built files using the DOS command: sqlcmd -S .SQLEXPRESS -i instnwd.sql. (Output was: Changed database context to 'master'. Changed database context to 'Northwind'.)
But, now, when I try to Add Connection through the Database Explorer in VWDE2008, nothing comes up in the Connect to a Database field. Shouldn't it auto-populate? If I'm supposed to manually type a name in there, what should it be? I've tried "Northwind" and "SQLEXPRESS" with no luck (getting a generic Unable to Connect message). I've verified the database is running with SQL Server Configuration Manager and that all Client Protocols are enabled.

I am displaying selectable rows in a gridview. The selected row uses a stored procedure to display all the fields in a formview when the Select button is clicked.
Only a small subset of the fields in the selected row are editable. When I click the Edit button only the EditItemTemplate fields show up, the read-only fields from the ItemTemplate disappear. I want the read-only rows to remain visible with the editable rows.
If I include the read-only fields in the EditItemTemplate, I get an error when I click Update on the FormView. The error states that there are too many parameters being passed to the stored procedure to update fields. How can I continue to show the read-only fields with the editable fields on the FormView and avoid getting the input parameter error on the stored procedure for the Update command?

I have a listview that shows the user the details of the members who have sent friendship request. The table from which the data come has two fields namely, sender_id[id of the one who sends friendship request] and receiver_id[id of the one to whom the request is sent].
There will be two columns in the listview. The first would show the pic and the name of the user. The problem is that how am I going to show the pic and the name if the table from where the data come does not contain these info. I know that the sender_id can be used to fetch the pic and name of the sender, but how should it be done?
Earlier I would do something like <%#Eval("fieldName")%>. But in the above described scenario the field is not present in the current table but the other one.

I have a page with a gridview control that shows files that have been uploaded to our site. The name of the uploaded files, who uploaded them, and if they have been downloaded, etc are stored in a table. The gridview is bound to the table through a sqlDataSource control. I have a button column in the gridview that downloads the file associated with a row when the button is clicked. All that works well. I have a check box column that shows checked if a file has been downloaded. When the download button is pressed.
the file downloads and then a short routine is run to update the downloaded field in the uploaded files table to set the downloaded field to true. This is done through a command string. All this works. Here is the question. After the update is run I do a databind on the gridview to update it. The databind is run in the PageLoad event is the page is a postback. This does not cause the current row to show downloaded =true (checked). If I refresh the page in the browser then it displays correctly.

I created and populated a database inside Visual Studio 2008 instead of using Management Studio.I need to run the script to create the schema for users and roles.The database does not show up in ASP.NET SQL Server Setup Wizard or in Management StudioThe only databases that do show up are master, model, msdb, and tempdb
Is there anything I can do to fix this or would it be easier for me to just create a new database starting in Management Studio and then connect to it from within Visual Studio?

I have a Gridview here. My problem here is that my Gridview is not showing up any data after I clicked on the 2nd page and above. (Which means that my data is only showing up on the 1st page.)
[Code]....
Note: I'm using C# as my code behind. I don't have any code controlling the Gridview. I only have code to control the SelectCommand for my SQLDataSource.
