Web Forms :: How To Get Proxy Settings From Client's Browser

Jan 11, 2011

Is that possible to get the proxy settigns right across several browsers, such as IE, firefox or safari from Asp.net? According to someone it is impossible because ASP.NET runs on the server, and therefore has very limited access to the client's settings.

But having said that, HttpBrowserCapabilities is able to retrieve plenty of information from a client machine, so i thought there is must a way to also retrieve the proxy settings on client's browser/s.

Is there a way to get the precise client's operating system, coz the HttpBrowserCapabilities.Platform property doesn't give me the precise client's operating system.

Create Fat Client (RIA) With HTML - Controlled Environment?

Oct 25, 2010

I realize that this question can start a discussion but that's really not my intention. We've created a Flex Application to take tests from candidates. The advantage of the Flex Application is that all state can be stored in the application running in the browser of the client. Things like time limits, navigation, scoring, ... can all be handled within the application without us having to worry about a back button for instance. Even running the app offline with Adobe Air isn't that hard.My question now is if such an application could easily be made with HTML, Javascript, Ajax, ... ? The reason I'm asking is because an application in HTML would be much easier to distribute on Mobile devices for instance. Also, our domain model for instance is mostly implemented in AS3 (Flex) so using it along the server side means porting it to C#.NET. (with two codebases as a result).

Getting Client Values Of IIS Server Variables In Load Balanced Environment?

Feb 9, 2011

I have an intranet ASP.NET web application in which I need to get the IP of the client's machine. I do this vis the following code:

HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables.Item("REMOTE_HOST")

It used to work when my ASP.NET site was only hosted on a single server. However once we got the load balancer installed and migrated our apps to a web farm, the code above returns the IP of the Load Balancer device and not of the client anymore.

I am working with the networking folks to determine what can be configured differently with the load balancer, but in the meantime I was wondering if there was another way I could get the client's IP other than using that IIS Server Variable?

Security :: Write To Isolated Storage On Client Disk In A Hosted Environment?

Jul 6, 2010

We have had complaints of users losing data that they entered in textboxes in our ASP.NET 2.0 web application. Users are authenticated using Web Single Sign On method. My boss would like to save the client data in a file on their local disk in case they lose connectivity. I know this is not allowed with the default security of ASP.NET.

Would it be possible to programmatically change the ACL permissions for the NETWORK SERVICE account to access the isolated storage folder on the logged in user's local disk? Is there a better way to achieve this goal of persisting user data to a file?

Web Forms :: IE 7 With Webforms And Proxy Server?

Sep 8, 2010

I have started having problems with our asp.net webform applications running behind a proxy since the user base have upgraded to IE7. Some postbacks seem to drop out and at times it is difficult to make controls on a page raise an event. It appears to be intermittant and I have been told there are issues around using IE7 behind a proxy with post requests. Is this the case and what are the options? Rewite in MVC? Does the issue of post requests behind a proxy remain in IE8?

Web Forms :: Send E-mail Through Proxy?

Jan 21, 2010

Is it possible to send an e-mail in my Asp.Net application through a Proxy server?

I tried using system.net configuration on my web.config but it seems that it accepts only URL proxies. Here's what I'm using:

[Code]....

I tried to disable the defaultProxy setting but I still couldn't send e-mails. I was able to get a remote web page content through my code using System.Net's WebProxy, WebResponse, WebRequest and NetworkCredential.

Unfortunately, SmtpClient does not provide a Proxy property. Is there any technology available to send e-mails through a proxy server? Currently I'm using .Net Framework 2.0 but if it's possible using 3.0, 3.5, Ajax Extensions or anything like that I'll start using it. But so far I couldn't find anything related to it anywhere.

If it's not possible then I'm gonna have to place a system requirement for a direct connection to the internet... I don't like it very much, but if its not possible....

Web Forms :: WebService JS Proxy Is Not Cached?

Mar 16, 2011

I have several JS proxies generated on the page through using code like:

scriptManager.Services.Add(new ServiceReference("~/Service.asmx"));

This code generates the following JS proxy on ASPX page where it is used:

<script src="../../Service.asmx/js" type="text/javascript"></script>

This file is not being cached in browser cache. I checked in firebug and in header it says:

Cache control: private

All other JS and CSS files are being cached with "Cache-Control: public,max-age=8640000". In web.config I have:

<staticContent>
<clientCache cacheControlCustom="public" cacheControlMode="UseMaxAge" cacheControlMaxAge="100.00:00:00" />
</staticContent>

How can I get JS Proxy files to cache?

Web Forms :: Asp Menu Working Fine In The Dev Environment But Not On Server

Sep 17, 2010

I am sorry to be asking what is probably a really stupid question, but i have a problem with my asp menu, when i run it on my dev machine(thru vs2010) it works perfectly, all the menu's are displayed correctly with the correct child items in the correct order but when i publish it to the server all the menu items become flat and take up the whole page. I am populating the menu using a reentrant function as follows to call the function and add the menus i am using

Dim childMenuItems As List(Of MenuItem) = CreateMenuLevel(0, uniquemenulist)
childMenuItems.ForEach(Sub(n) NavigationMenu.Items.Add(n))
Public Function CreateMenuLevel(ByVal parentId As Integer, ByVal menulist As List(Of MenuList)) As List(Of MenuItem)
Dim menuItems As New List(Of MenuItem)
For Each menuListItem As MenuList In menulist.Where(Function(n) n.ParentId = parentId)
Dim MenuItem As New MenuItem
If (Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(menuListItem.PagePath)) Then
MenuItem.NavigateUrl = menuListItem.PagePath
End If
MenuItem.Text = menuListItem.MenuName
MenuItem.Selectable = True
MenuItem.Enabled = True
menuItems.Add(MenuItem)
Dim childMenuItems As List(Of MenuItem) = createMenuLevel(menuListItem.MenuId, menulist)
childMenuItems.ForEach(Sub(n) MenuItem.ChildItems.Add(n))
Next
Return menuItems
End Function

now as i say this all works fine in the dev environment so i dont think its a coding issue unless i am missing something mad.

server 2003 x64
iis 6.0
asp 4.0.303.19
relevant .net 4 framework packs installed
dev environment
visual studio 2010

am using the same browser for to check both dev and server

Web Forms :: Email Attachment Only Works In Dev Environment Not On Hosted Server?

Feb 5, 2010

I have a form where a user asks for a quote and we need to send an attached application form. all this worked in the dev environment but when I post the changes onto our hosted server (third party ISP) I get an error when the attachment is added. I have tired to use URL's but that does not work, at the moment I am using a relative path, but have also tried to place the file in the forms page folder.

Here is my attachment code:

string strFullPath = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath(pRelativePath);
Attachment myAttachment = new Attachment(strFullPath, System.Net.Mime.MediaTypeNames.Application.Pdf);
myMsg.Attachments.Add(myAttachment);

this is in a try - catch block and I get the error "Could not find file".

How To Call A Function From The Proxy

Jun 28, 2010

I have created my proxy class from a wsdl file using

wsdl /out:myproxy.cs c:arcodework.wsdl

I have imported it into my windows service application written in c# .net and I want to call a function from the proxy.

It returns an error when I try to call any function from the proxy. How can I make my application to communicate with the proxy file which is myproxy.cs? Here is how the proxy file starts:

using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Diagnostics;
using System.Web.Services;

using System.Xml.Serialization;

MVC Controllers Vs Proxy Layer?

Nov 25, 2010

i'm in a project with a service layer (WCF), a proxy layer that are between this service layer and the "controllers". Every controller should call this proxy layer to get data, and instead return a model to be rendered, returns a bigger entity that i've to convert using Linq to a more little model. Then pass it to the view.

Do you think is a good idea that this conversion be done by the controller? In my opinion the controller is not the responsable to shape the incoming object from the proxy layer. This object should be returned by the proxy layer and the controller should pass it to the view directly.

MVC :: Reverse Proxy And Authentication?

Feb 21, 2011

We have nearly completed an ASP.NET MVC web application running with SSL in IIS and now find that we must integrate with a third-party product that is supplied as a PHP web app running under lightppd on an alternate port, but still on the same server.

We want to make the integration appear as seamless as possible, so our initial strategy is to do all of the authentication through our application, implement a reverse proxy to expose selected features from the third-party product, and then set-up the third-party product to only be accessible from localhost and (if we can manage it) only from the user our app pool runs as. As a second layer on top of this, we plan on running the third party active content in an IFRAME, so we can surround it with our menus and headers. With the right fonts and colors, hopefully, it won't look grossly out of place.

First question: Is this strategy totally naive? Given the hand we've been dealt, is there a better one?

Second question: What is the best way to implement the reverse proxy? I was thinking of using a routing rule with an Http Handler that invokes our usual authorization just as a controller would and makes the requests to the other site, streaming out the results it receives. Is there something that already does this generically, that I can just hook up and invoke? Maybe some way to specify a controller to handle everything I need to proxy and then use a ViewResult that represents a call to an external URL I construct from the URL I received?

If I can get a few pointers on what to look for, I can trot off to the docs for the details.

Web Forms :: Error In Production Environment When Dynamically Generating Script Code

May 6, 2010

I am dynamically generating script code to return transaction data to Google Analytics using their ecommerce script. The code that generates the script is fully tested and functional on my development machine and when I view the page code the script, along with any values that were passed to it, can be seen above the </form> tag. Happy days, or so I thought. For some reason the code is not being generated when I test it in a live, hosted environment. I cant figure out why this is the case as the code is quite simple. I simply generate the script code and register it on the client side (see code below)

//Capture the transaction data for analytics ecommerce tracking
//Generate the necessary script code
string strAnalyticsEcommerceScript = Analytics_Ecommerce_Script_Creator();
//Register the script on the page
Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "AnalyticsScript", strAnalyticsEcommerceScript);

The page in question is called "Order-Successfull" and is where customers are sent to when they have succesfully payed for an order. On this page:

-The order is added to the orders database table
- The customer is emailed an order confirmation email
- The google analytics script is generated and registered

The Sequence is as follows:

[Code]....

Whats really interesting is that if I move the Analytics script creator code before the code that sends the emails, the script is generated and can be seen when I view the page code. If I do this, however, the emails do not get sent. If I lay the code out as per the code I have inserted in this post, the emails get sent but the script code is not placed on the page.. The code to that actually sends the emails is quite standard:

[Code]....

Web Forms :: Server.Transfer And Response.redirect In Multi User Environment ?

Jan 27, 2011

I have to choose between Server.transfer and Response.redirect for an Intranet application for navigation. I have chosen Server.Transfer as of now because it avoid extra round trip to server and which will help when so many users will be accessing the application. (I believe this is the main difference between reponse.redirect and server.transfer). But the problem is now that URL won't change on Server.Transfer(I don't want to implement Http headerS, as I am afraid it will take time to implement that).on redirection, I want to do something like taking benefit of server.redirect(in avoiding server processing, which happens in response.redirect) and changing the URL(as it happens in reponse.redirect).Can anyone please suggest a quick solution to it or may be help me Telling How many users can reponse.redirect can support ?
